Well, he certainly has shown that he CANNOT fix things in-game. In-game adjustments just do not happen under CS.
Damn, what happened to the thread? In any event, as I was saying, I don't think Strong is that great of a recruiter. First of all, anyone -- even Varsity Forever -- could recruit to the University of Texas because it is a timeless, storied program with top-notch facilities. So getting a whiff of the top 10 (which I truly doubt) before the Baylor implosion is not meeting expectations. Second, a program that pays in the top 5 or 6 should get a coach that puts it into the top 5 (or 6 (or better)). That's recruiting, ranking, playoffs (or close). This program pays the money and it should get what it is paying for. Here's the top 10: 1. Nick Saban, Alabama – $7,087,481 2. Jim Harbaugh, Michigan – $7,004,000 3. Urban Meyer, Ohio State – $5,860,000 4. Bob Stoops, Oklahoma – $5,400,000 5. Jimbo Fisher, Florida State – $5,150,000 6. Charlie Strong, Texas – $5,100,270 7. Kevin Sumlin, Texas A&M – $5,000,000 8. James Franklin, Penn State – $4,400,000 9. Les Miles, LSU – $4,385,567 10. Hugh Freeze, Mississippi – $4,310,000
Freeze , Miles, and Franklin on hot seat......as is Sumlin and Strong. Sumlin looks to be cooling his at this time. The others...not so much. Fire is getting hotter under Charlie as things start to crumble...Even his good boys stay out of trouble tag is being tugged and torn off this week.
54, Auburn is first on that list. They have already tried to interest Herman and are moving on to other possibilities. Not much interest in being Cotton Aggie unless your name is Petrino.
Sorry Phil, I get confused a lot. Comes with age I guess, hope that's all. I usually have nothing to say important anyway.
I think you will be surprised. Aggy has a defense this year. They may lose some, but I suspect only 3 and LSU won't be one of them.
If they had played anyone with a decent offense I would agree with you. However they haven't. If history is any indication, Orgeron will have the LSU offense firing on all cylinders by the time they play aggy. Also 3 losses will again put them in the bottom half of the SEC West - so no change.
LSU coaching change may put a new twist on the game with Aggy. I also give LSU a much better chance with Les gone.
Viper, How can you say there will be "no change". Aggie will go from seventh best in the SEC West losing to the eighth best, to being fourth best in the SEC West. Aggie can spin that as a huge improvement. Kinda like Fran claiming a win in the spring game.
Sabre, as long as Mississippi escapes penalties, aggy is no better than 4th in the $EC West (i.e mid-pack at best - same as in the Big XII and the SWC).
Sorry, I was being facetious with Aggie making the HUGE improvement from seventh best in the SEC West to Fourth best in the SEC West. Aggies will celebrate that as "nearly winning the division".
Sabre, fourth place is a reach for them most seasons, but yes those are the seasons they play "what if/should have been/Texas paid the ref's". Now they are all at church praying that Herman doesn't take the LSU job as that will be a double whammy to them - they lose their next HC; and will have to face Herman every season.
Charlie needs do do a dance at the press conference to Justin Biebers "I'm Sorry" as he packs his **** and leaves Austin...oh and he needs to take Bedford with him!
Charlie needs to be fired today. Here are 10 reasons directly attributable to coaching: 1) After a bye week, totally unprepared and seemingly unmotivated against a team that robbed them the prior year at home. 2) 3 blocked kicks. Never have I seen anything like it. A real coach corrects that mid game. 3) Once again, wrong decision on a penalty. 4) Once again, no half time adjustments 5) Terrible clock management. Correction, no time management. 6) Giving up at the end of the game. Seems more interested in trying to limit the loss difference than trying to actually win. 7) Terrible special teams on kick offs. Has anyone explained the need to take a knee in the end zone? 8) Poor tackling 9) One turnover in 3 games. 10) $5,000,000 per year. Anybody is better than this. Give the reigns to Sterling and see how he does.
The most interesting postgame exchange occurred between Texas guard Patrick Vahe and I during Saturday’s media session. In order to avoid any controversy, I am going to give you my full question and Vahe’s answer for total disclosure: Q: What’s the confidence level in the staff with you guys right now? A: Hmm? (Vahe seemingly didn't understand or hear the question) Q: The confidence level in this staff with you guys? A: Can’t answer that question. I really don’t know. I’m just trying to go on with the week. Q: You can’t answer where the confidence level with this staff is? You can’t answer that? A: Coaches are just going to be coaches, and that’s all we’re going to ask them to do, just coach. - Here is Vahe’s explanation for the OSU’s success with the blocked point after attempts: “Just simple field goal block. Head up, nose on the center, A-gap presence. It just mixed well together. They were able to get into the backfield.” Vahe said the staff did make adjustments.
Just for the record, I read the question and was not clear if you were asking about: 1. Coaches' confidence in the players 2. player's confidence in the coaches 3. Coaches' confidence in themselves
http://www.espn.com/college-footbal...nghorns-make-season-move-coach-charlie-strong This article cites a source saying Charlie won't be fired during the season and that the most likely scenario involving Charlie's return (probably a big if on this scenario) would include a new defensive STAFF.
