You must have been in school after me. I did not, or knew of anyone. smoked weed. I am guilty of the rest of your confessed sins.

If were in school after me, I salute you, your generation got us out of Nam and shed blood to do so. That's forgotten. My children had never heard of the Kent State massacre. The judicial outcome of that event should be viewed as criminal.

While that makes sense in a vaccum, consider that he was stopped in the middle of a drive-thru line. Undoubtedly he had to move the vehicle while under the influence to get it to that spot. Unless he drove sober to the drive-thru line, left his car there, went and bought some alcohol, and then chugged in the car, blocking the line all the while....

Inference does not get you to the point necessary for DWI conviction unless someone decides to plead out instead of trusting a jury to properly parse the elements as instructed by the judge. A drive-through line is not a public roadway. Once he left the property, however, different story...

Who said he drove to the place - someone else could have (should be his position).

    Silly rules:
Stay in a dorm for three years. They are young adults, not inmates.
Sit in the front of the class. You get more knowledge and get smarter if you sit in the front?
Wear a suit on the plane. You will play better by what you wearing on the plane? Tim Duncan says hello.

Core values: No guns. I thought that was settled in the State legislature and signed into law.

The rest of the core values hopefully are already possessed by the recruit prior to enrollment. If not, I doubt any coach is going to change them.

The reality is 85 young men from different family situations and values are not going to be rewired by Strong and we should not have the expectation that bad decisions will not be made by 18-22 year olds over a 4-5 year period.

Young men between the ages of 18-22 generally don't have the best social decision making abilities. Some get caught and most get away with it.

    I like Old Hippie's post.

I do not hold Strong or any coach accountable beyond a reasonable attempt to lay reasonable rules out and enforce them reasonably. Every situation is different.

If it is a legal situation, the player should be convicted before being tossed from the team.

I've never had a DWI. But I understand Perkins made a mistake. I think most are looking to Strong to be consistently tough on players regardless of who recruited them.

So it's Mack's fault. That figures.

A bigger issue is that at his PC today, Strong said members of the team knew he was drunk and should have stepped-up and not let him drive. If that is the case Strong has lost the team.

Hmmmmm. That's an indicator for sure. We've got 9 games left to find out. I believe that "8" is the magic number for Strong. Fall short and all hell will come crashing down on him.

We must be from the same era. That sounds strange. :smile1: I did all but the smoking MJ. Got that out of my system before I transferred to UT.

I wholeheartedly disagree. As stupid as it is, college kids are the stupidest (sorry to y'all students ) decision makers related to drinking. To take this one instance and come to that conclusion is too big a jump.

Making a mistake is getting home and accidentally realizing you bought skim milk instead of 2%. A deliberate wrong choice isn't a "mistake".

A deliberate wrong choice can be a mistake. Many contrite people who harm others in the heat of passion feel like they made mistakes. Mistakes in judgement. Mistakes in decision making.

Mistakes can sink battleships. We shouldn't minimize them, but it's ok to say people make dire mistakes that are mistakes.
Being a drug dealer or a rapist is not a mistake. But driving under the influence can be a mistake in judgement.

The Austin city council just was way too power hungry and decided to write ridiculous regs that forced the companies to leave... There aren't any real similar companies that even remotely have taken either of those two places

I agree. However, not knowing the facts, I will just hope that Strong is not pulling a Stoops on this one. Of course, perception is reality, and it sure seems that way.

    WorsterMan SEC here we come!!

For Perkins I suspect one of the worst parts of the punishment phase of this incident is what Coach Moorer is going to do to him in the pit.

I hope you're right. To that point, and not to derail the thread, does anyone feel like the pit has been successful? Are our players tougher now than under Mack Brown? Honest question, I really don't know.

One game is standard across the country, and it was a first offense.

The eye test says bodies are looking better, but the injury level (both in frequency and severity) hasn't gone down. Does this mean they are tougher? I doubt it. At times they seem more intense, but that is one of the big issues - the intensity varies not only game to game but also quarter to quarter in a game.

At least Moorer presents a better example of what they should be striving for than Mad Dog.

    Charlie Strong
    2014-2016
    28 games
    13-15 overall record.
2-5 in games played out of state including 2 shutouts.
    0-12 when losing at halftime.
0-13 when losing to start the 4th quarter
4-6 in games decided by 7 points or less
8 twenty or more point blowout losses

    Mack Brown
    2011-2013
    39 games
    25-14 overall record
8-3 in games played out of state
    0 shutouts
    5-10 when losing at halftime
3-13 when losing to start the 4th quarter

I do not know if we are tougher, but we sure are not better so far.

Strong has taken us to a new level. Must be the culture change, knowing how to hire an ace coaching staff, executing in game adjustments and coaching em up.

    4th_floor Dude, where's my laptop?

So you think Perkins deliberately drove while inebriated? Any decision you make while butt-faced drunk is probably not totally deliberate. It's very possible that Perkins doesn't even remember getting into the car. I doubt he thought "I think I'll drive drunk and put my life and the lives of others in danger." It is unacceptable, criminal behavior to drive drunk. It is also a mistake.
