Exactly. I have yet to ever see a coach say they have been contacted and are really thinking about it.

Only problem with Herman taking LSU job is ..WTH does Texas do when we go 6-6 this year ? There is nobody out there besides Herman, Briles, and Petrino worth a darn who isn't locked into a great job already. You know we won't look at Briles or Petrino.....so its Herman or live in mediocrity for years to come if not for forever.

Sterlin could make nice head coach.

I said to fire Strong after the Cal game and let Sterlin run the show for the rest of the year. It's crazy to think we will allow Charlie to turn over and entire staff in less than 3 years with no accountability to himself. It's a shame our AD is as inept as Patterson.

I honestly don't care if we win Saturday by 50 points. The whole idea of having to "hope" our coach can be successful and maybe we can win 8 games is a joke. We are Texas for god's sake and should not accept mediocrity.

Naming SG as Texas' head coach would be worse than naming Strong as HC. At least Strong had some HC experience at somewhat the level Texas needs.

Chad Morris (who should have been the choice when Strong was hired) would be a better (and safer) choice.

I would care. It would be evidence the Cal game was an aberration and not the trend.

Our results the last 2+ years are not an aberration. They are a trend.

    54,

Perhaps I didn't make my point earlier. LSU hiring Herman could be the best thing that happens to us. Fertitta has bought and paid for the governor, so we can expect the same kind of crap from Abbott that we got from queen ann when the Big XII was form. Remove Herman from under Tillman, and it will make things much easier down the road. Herman wants Strong's job!

Why is it that Fedora is such a sure thing in your mind? I've broken out his record at UNC and you have yet to explain why exchanging ~.500 coaches is such a great idea.
You have a fetish for losing to Baylor (the same QB-less Baylor that we beat, no less) by 50 points or something?

Never mind, its never going to happen anyway.

    DS,

What do you have against Fedora? Texas guy, with a family of Texas HS coaches. He rebuilt Southern Miss from the ground up. He took over one of the most dysfunctional P5 programs and has them playing quality ball in spite of the most distractions of any school in the country. The guy is one helluva coach with great ties to Texas HS coaches. He is and has been on my short list. Unfortunately, I expect him to wind up in Brazos County, while our administration plays "switch".

Herman or Dabo. I have no idea why Dabo was not on our lis last time especially with Morris as OC.

I don't want Dabo because I don't want any coach that is stupid enough to leave the situation he has to come to Austin. What could we possibly offer Dabo that he doesn't have a better situation existing at Auburn with a lake.

The only aberration during Strong's tenure at Texas was last year's ou game. Now that we know what ND is we know that game was nothing more than following the trend of beating teams that suck.

I have nothing against Fedora at all. Its just that his record stacks up about as well as Strong's record up to this point. Had a lot of success as a coordinator, racked up a lot of wins as a HC in a non p5 conference. Has marginally more success in a weak p5 conference as a head coach and still has a lot to prove.
So I guess I am just confused about why anyone would have a total hard-on for him.
His defense got humiliated by Baylor last year, but I guess that's forgivable since his name is not Charlie Strong.

I noticed when I went back and read my 2013 posts that IvanDiabloHorn wanted Fedora before Mack Brown was fired. I realized that he just wants Fedora. Why? I have no idea. However, I dont think it is so much anti-charlie as much as pro-fedora. If we hire Herman, I bet IvanDiabloHorn still wants Fedora for unknown reasons.

Fedora has a hot daughter that goes to UT, so that's something I guess.

There was once a poster that really wanted the northwestern guy and would post about him a lot. Some people just have coaches they like I guess, rational or not.

    77,

Lots of people "liked" Barnett, me included. Tom Hicks & Deloss were in Chicago with Barnett & Rocky when DKR was putting everyone on a plane to fly to Hartsfield.

Oh no, I was talking about Pat Fitzgerald. Someone on here in 2013 kept wanting Pat Fitzgerald. I am aware a lot of people wanted Gary Barnett back in the day. Should have said "the current northwestern guy."

Thanks for the clarification. While he's a good guy and can coach, I was never a supporter of Fitzgerald coming to Austin other than as a position coach.

Fedora inherited a huge mess at NC and did more with less for three years. I don't think he could have 85 scholarship players for 2 or 3 years. If you want to compare Strong and Fedora through the start of their p5 Head Coaching of 2 years and 3 games:
Fedora 17-11, Strong 13-15. The difference is that Fedora did a much better coaching job
serving the probation(including loss of scholarships). He is still building his program, I believe he went 11-3 in his fourth year 2015 with a full 85 scholarships.

Two different situations, but one coach has performed much better than the other.

I think Charlie Strong will get the full 5 years on his contract if he wants it, which means finishing this year and two more. That will give him a team full of his own players and will give a better indication of whether or not he is a good program fit in terms of wins and losses.

At this point his first full recruiting class are sophomores and players from his last recruiting class are only 3 games into their true freshman year. Players like Buechele, Shack, Hudson, Duvernay, C. Johnson, Brandon Jones, McCulloch, J. Elliot, Christmas, Delance, Okafor, Lil-J Humphrey, Fowler and many others will be a whole lot better next year.

I'm certainly willing to wait and see what happens. I don't see a head coaching change coming at all.

Again, from a coaching candidate perspective, this might be a good opportunity for our defensive coordinator prospects.
