I think he may turn out to be better. But no one may really know it because his won loss record won't be near as good because Seattle had a world class defense in place when Wilson got there. Dallas has a really bad, one of the more inept in the league, defenses. Seattle's D could and still can win the game for you. Not so in Big D.
He's in a pretty ideal situation with a great OL, good WRs, and above-average RBs. That said, he's making the most of the situation and clearly contributing his own part, not just sitting back and let everyone else win the game while he merely tries to be super careful to not mess it up.
Let's wait until the end of the season before having this discussion. Right now there is very little video for the opposition to go on, and we do not know what will happen if Romo comes back and survives. For example I am sure the 5 wide/no backs offense caught Chicago off-guard. At some point Dak will crash and fumble, stumble and throw interceptions. Also, if Dez misses any games the defenses will play Dak differently. Dak has the talent, coaching will have a big say in how he develops. Carroll has a history of developing QB's. Garrett not so much.
There not much I don't like when watching Prescott. He tough and smart. He's stocky, built like a linebacker. He has touch and also a strong arm. He appears to make good decisions and my guess is that his teammates like what they are seeing. Unless he melts down or gets injured the opinion here is that Romo may not see the field again in 2016. But then again, it's the Cowboys and good decision-making and Jerra go together like oil and water.
What's amazing with Dak is what he has done when the other veteran backup quarterbacks did nothing. Regarding his career, it's too early. But his decision making, quick release, and legs have been very impressive in his first three games.
He looks more accurate then Wilson, but we're dealing with a small sample size. He has been amazingly accurate so far. Crazy how good this kid has looked, he's been fun to watch. I've never thought Wilson was all that. He's good, but he's no Brady or Rogers. When you have a D like that and a tier 1 running back you just need to be in the top 10 QBs to win a super bowl. Look at Baltimore.
There is nothing gimmicky about Dak's success. I've seen him execute every conceivable facet of the Cowboys offense since pre-season, including opening new mobility avenues that weren't available with Romo. The kid is savvy, great pocket awareness, accurate, reads progressions very well, and flat out can play the position. Do I think he's a better option than a (truly) healthy Romo? Not at this point, no. Romo is an elite pre-snap QB who can adjust plays to expose the defense with the best of them. But those who say the sample size is too small and Dak is benefiting from using only certain pieces of the offense that defenses haven't had a chance to adjust to...you're just not paying close enough attention to all he's done since his first ever snap in a Cowboys uniform. The kid has it. I'm not saying he's the next Brady or as good as Wilson now or even in a year, but he'll be a damn good pro QB for years to come. There's no legitimate reason to predict his play will diminish in time....good luck with that. He'll have good games and a few bad ones now and then, so goes the life of a solid NFL QB.
I can see that. Also has the hard to sack stature of Culpepper or Roethlisberger. Even when cornered Dak will plant, stand firm, and power through clean tackles.
The last time I was so impressed with a Dallas Cowboys rookie quarterback? Roger Staubach. Roger didn't get 3 starts playing behind a healthy and effective Craig Morton, but I loved Roger's mobility, his quick release and physical strength to break tackles. Watching Dak's decision making and accuracy, I can't see why he lasted until the fourth round.
Tom Brady was chosen in the 6th round. It makes you wonder what the knock on Prescott was. With Russel Wilson it was his height (5'10"). Prescott has been impressive early on. Dallas is protecting him, like Seattle did early with Russel Wilson.
there was talk about how he isn't throwing deep balls. i can see that he prefers distances where he can zip it instead of that long soft touch throw. maybe he develops that more over time? that's the only thing.
That's what they say. But if they have a 60% winning percentage, there is no way in hell you change the QB. They still have their tougher games ahead and no real D, so that number is doubtful, but still. You don't bench a winner.
I think it will have to be more than 60%. At 4-3, that's no more than nfl parity. At 6-2, then you wonder.
I am not comparing their styles in any way. But there is something about Dak that reminds me of VY. His ability to avoid sacks, his speed when he runs, and general football IQ. He appears to know where everyone is on the field, both offense and defense. Indeed that sample size is tells us nothing, but I have to like what I see so far.
