Would the rumors be just the opposite if the Horns lose? Miles to Texas? Would Texas pull a LSU right in the middle of the season? Would Texas hire someone like Miles? What would Red say? My enquiring mind would like to know.
Gundy is likely gone. He and T Boone are not speaking. Only thing good about that for Gundy is that T Boone is too busy trying to keep up with Norm Brinker's widow's spending.
Ok State seems to underachieve, but then again they have unrealistic expectations. Nothing wrong with aiming high though. ...........................................................
If I remember correctly OSU has been in the top 10 a couple times in recent years. I think it was 2011 they were like #2 or 3 when they lost to Iowa State. They are probably not going to become an elite destination program but they have had some recent chances to win at a high level.
Chip Kelly isn’t interested in returning to college football, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, who adds that schools that have reached out to Kelly have been told it’s not happening. http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/...o-49ers-coach-chip-kelly-not-returning-oregon
ba, Let me interpret the legalese for you - "the NCAA has a proctoscope waiting if you even interview". The water rising is not a creek but rather the tears of Willie Lyles over having lost both Kelly & Briles.
Joe, This is from the nut job that has done more damage to college athletics than anyone else. Yes, he has spent his cash on schools, but he has also bought and paid for schools and athletes to attend those schools. You can argue that he took the cash to an all new level, like the first six figure kid in the ACC. If you need further validation, look at the hideous uniforms he has put on schools with NO tradition. If he couldn't do it paying street agents and letting Chip Kelly cheat his *** off, what makes him think that $10 million will buy him a championship. Ain't like Saban, Harbaugh or Meyer are longing to live among tree huggers and whale kissers. Stoops? Maybe
Stoops hates puppies so you are saying he likes whales? Come to think of it whales do you a hint of slime.
Gundy is a really good coach. If Okie lite is stupid enough to run him off, some school will get a really good coach, kind of like Texas Tech firing Leach and Washington State being the beneficiary. What do schools like Okla State, Texas Tech or Kansas think they are going to get that is better than what they ran off Leach, Mangino and possibly Gundy. Gundy has the Cowboys 7-2(should be 8-1, but were screwed in the CMich game) and in a great position to win the Big 12.
Unfortunately for the alumni, Pickens has the only vote that counts and, if reports are to be believed, he isn't a Gundy fan.
Which is reasonable, seeing as how they were such a power prior to Gundy taking the reins. I mean, the consistent losing seasons with a few winning seasons sprinkled in unless you go back to the 1940s. Yep, T. Boone ought to run Gundy right out of town.
That is the national perception but it is way overblown. Gundy and the AD will do what they have to do behind closed doors to appease the old man so the checks keep coming. Boone wants to be heard but he knows there isn't another coach better for the University.
Fire Brian Kelly and hire Butch Jones. That's only half a step up the ladder of assholerey. At that rate the Catholics will manage to work their way up to a piece of **** on a scale with Art Briles in maybe 50-75 years. ND is the premier job in the country and can't even hire a half-assed coach. Let the Pope pick the next one. He can't do any worse.
The oSu President and AD need to take T Boone behind closed doors and remind him of how Mike Gundy got his first coaching job. Those memories may be painful to Boone, but this is his last hoorah. After this one, Norm Brinker's widow will have exhausted all Boone's reserves.
Mangino did win the Orange Bowl at kansas... at Kansas! Also, he beat a good ACC Champion Virginia Tech team. It is not like he played an undefeated Hawaii or something. I cant stand Mangino. His comments about a pro Texas conspiracy were classless. I just cannot deny that he won the Orange Bowl at Kansas.
See what getting beat by Texas does to an opposing coach. Kingsbury is also feeling the "got beat by Texas" heat. Sad commentary for Texas.
Viper, Look at the bright side. We used to be the team everyone wanted to beat. Now, we are everyone's homecoming game. Attending road games now means that we get to experience the best parties at each school.
Part of the reason is they only pay about half of the current market for elite coaches. I believe Kelly makes a little over $2m. That's not even above the midrange for the power five conferences. I may be a little off in my figures but the "coaches salary" article that came out a couple of weeks ago had ND remarkably lower than the top 25 schools.
