Hi guys. We are going to the game against Tech in November and I wanted to see if the Longhorn family could help me out with any recommendations on hotels, restaurants, and potential Friday night drinking establishments.

I've never been to Lubbock, so appreciate any input. Thanks!

I've been to several games there, but never stayed overnight. Don't be surprised to get a few rude, even hostile, comments, but overall not a bad game day environment.

I'm sure others can recommend nice hotel and pub. :hookem:

You might put up the same post on HF Swap Meet where game tickets are bought and sold. You might get a response from someone that can answer your question. Unfortunately, I have never had the distinct pleasure of attending a UT road game in Lubbock, so I cannot assist you.

    Good luck :hookem:

First of all, I doubt you can find a room, but if you can, $100 rooms will charge $400+. I stayed once at the old Hilton close to campus, but since have stayed at Holiday Inn out by airport, which is where our team used to stay. Continue to watch the national hotel chain websites for openings. Otherwise, look seriously at surrounding small towns. Can't say I've ever had a memorable meal in Lubbock.

What I remember most was that the team was watching the local news, and Mike Ruether had to stop Brian Millard from throwing the TV our of the hotel window because he was upset about what was being said about Texas.

The people of the High Plains are the greatest people on earth except when the Aggies or Longhorns come to town. Drunks with nothing to be proud of can be intolerable, but you may broaden your vocabulary.

Thanks for the replies so far. We did reserve a room for that weekend, although I am pretty sure this place is probably a dive...but at least we will have a place to sleep.

So far, even with limited responses, I seem to be getting confirmation of my preconceived ideas about Lubbock. One take away so far is that if we do happen to find a bar to hang out in on Friday night, the advice would be to lay low and not wear burnt orange.

I have relatives in West Texas, including my brother who is a UT grad, so I have seen some of that nasty behavior toward UT by the locals without ever having attended a Tech game in Lubbuttocks. Also, beware of where you park your car if you have UT emblems on it.

Only time we went was 2004 when they couldn't tackle Vince, or anyone else. Night game, lots of drunks. By games end there were more of us than them. We came in that morning and our dealings were OK until we left the hotel and went to the Stadium. After the beat down, the Tech people we came into contact with were actually really nice. Pre-game, not so much.

    Joe,

How can you say that? Ozzman may really like Albuquerque, and he can see it blow by Lubbock when a front comes through.

Well, I must say that I was not impressed, lol. At the same time, it wasn't as bad as I expected in terms of how the tech fans treated us. I would go back for another game in the future, but that's about it.

My only trip to Tech was when I was in HS and looking at Universities. Got there on Friday evening. Saturday was a "what is that gawdawful smell!!" Wind changed direction during the night and the stench from the feed lots was blowing in. Sunday morning there was a haze in the room when I woke up. Looking out at my car there was a layer of red dirt on top of it. A dust storm had blown through during the night and covered everything. Tech was off my list. Only been back a couple of times for business purposes and only for the day.

Not many great restaurants in Lubbock. Never been to a game there, but have overnighted on ski trips from Austin many, many times. Don't remember a particularly memorable meal. But a quick yelp search revealed this; you might check it out:

For the future, I guess! I now realize I'm a little late for this year...
