I just listened to FS1 talking heads discuss Big 12 teams and who they thought would win the conference....They talked for several minutes about Baylor, OU, WVU, TCU, and Tech....Not a single word about Texas.....they mentioned the "YOUNG" defense of WVU and how well they were doing. the offenses of BU, OU, and Tech.......Not a single word about Texas.....Think about that........Not a single word about Texas.....We are irrelevant in a conference considered the bottom feeder of the power five conferences. This in a year when Charlie was supposed to show us we were turning it around. Saturday's game is do or die for Charlie.
Ignore the talking heads. I will give you WVa and TCU. However, ou could be 1-3 by next weekend and a defeat on 08 October would destroy their season so why were they included in the discussion? The one almost decent Power 5 team they faced (and lost to) showed Tech still needs to refine what they do when their offense is not on the field so why were they included? Why wasn't Texas included? Because no one really knows if Texas is for real or what has become an annual mirage. The ND defeat has lost its luster and losing to a team on the par with Sand Aggie has spooked everyone.
This is very odd. I think it speaks to the defensive failures of the team over the past 14+months. Our offense is showing it can and will put points on the board, finally. But the defense has yet to prove anything. On the other hand, what have any of the teams listed in your post proven defensively this year? Nothing, really. TCU, usually strong on the D, crapped the bed against the Hogs. And none of the others have been good (with the possible exception of WVU) on D this year. So it really is on Charlie now, to get it fixed. He said he would. He's had a bye week to make a difference. All eyes are on it this weekend. And if it is not significantly improved, then it bodes very poorly for the remainder of the season, imho.
Surprised not a mention but only surprised that there was no mention in regards to our youth. Our Cal loss showed everyone that, while we may have some offense (remember we had chances to score and win at Cal) we are still the same weak defense and hence the same sorrowful wannabes. This Sat can change a lot of minds or confirm.
When the Longhorns can play some solid defense, they will be noticed - sure hope it starts this weekend in Stillwater.
"FS1". Nuff said. I have seen talking heads on ESPN pick Texas to win the conference. And it's all still in front of us. One game at a time. I tend to look for the positive. Why must some dredge up every negative point they can find?
Our defense looked like the Keystone Cops out there vs Cal. I mean how many people on this board, even, feel confident going into this game? Raise your hand if you truly believe we are a legitimate contender to win the Big 12. No one knows... and there are a lot of people who aren't sold on CS..hence the media hesitation I'm sure. We're going to learn a lot these next couple Saturdays.
If I start to gauge my opinions about UT (and if they're speaking highly of West Virginia defense) based upon FS1, I think I'll take up scrapbooking
Who talking heads are paying attention to when we haven't played a single conference game yet, and nobody else in the conference has particular wowed so far either, isn't relevant to much. It's wide open right now.
Which makes it even worse that TEXAS "isn't even mentioned" in a conversation about winning the conference or a chance to win it.
The B12 discussion has been all over the place. A few say Texas has to do well and has a good shot to win the conference while others think that 8 wins is a streach. Most have said that if the ACC, SEC, PAC12 and BIG champs all only have 1 loss, the B12 will be left out. A couple pointed out that OU only got in last year because the PAC 12 winner, Stanford had 2 losses. The OOC records for the conference have been crappy, and although Rapelor was undefeated so far, they don't believe they would get a bid with all the nastiness hanging over the program. So, there you have it.
Do we play on FS1? Or is our own network under the ESPN umbrella? Why should FS1 talking heads promote and chatter about a team they don't get to cover on their network?
Well this just in was watching game day this morning and heard the guys talk about Baylor will have a test until they go down to Austin and then play TCU the next week... so let's just call this a wash
Until Baylor either releases the Pepper Hamilton report or permits the Big XII lawyers to interview Pepper Hamilton at length with no unanswered questions, Baylor should not be allowed to win any Big XII championship. Right now Baylor is just shooting a big bird at the Big XII.
The Best 2 teams in Texas are not in the Big 12. That is the problem. A&M and Houston outclass any team in the Big 12.
But we have a lot of good young men with strong character out on that field. Isn't that what matters most?
