Sounds like nothing more than speculation from Finebaum but I guess it could be true.

Yes agree, looks more like Strong will be given another chance.

I am not sure if it bothers anyone else, but Herman kissing the players does not sit well with me.
If he plans on continuing to kiss players, we should look elsewhere. Like maybe Fedora who upset Florida State this weekend.

Interesting but yeah, rumors at this point, but I think there is smoke coming the CS camp.

I know $$$$$ is no problem if the decision is made to fire CS and go after Herman or any new HC.

Finebaum and Thamel are sports writer. Writers speculate and write stuff to attract readers and or get clicks.

    We will see.

Have not seen that but I would be uncomfortable with that as well. If somehow he comes to Texas I can imagine he will have a number of the big cigars tell him he must knock that off.

I didn't like the way the Les Miles/LSU situation played out in the media, and it looks like this is going to be a circus as well. Granted, I realize realize apples and oranges the records of Miles and Strong, but I am so sick of the way the media handles things.

I like Fedora as well. We did pretty good last time we brought in a coach from North Carolina.

Tom Herman seems to be the flavor of the month, but isn't his success at a "lesser" school the same as CS? This job could be too big for him, too. From that standpoint (I am not advocating this, just making a point), Les Miles would be less risky than TH.

Admittedly, I don't follow all of this coaching carousel as closely as others on here. Can someone explain to me what Herman has done besides have success at UH? Strong had success at Louisville, and we see that has not transferred over to Texas. So, why is success at UH any different? What makes Herman the end all, be all for so many on this board?

I can put up with it as long as he wins games. CS bodysurfing after each win and then being totally outcoached the next week is getting very old.

Agree on the theory. The only meaningful difference between the Herman resume and the Strong resume is Herman is an offense guy with two years experience in Austin (so he should understand the microscope); Strong is a defense guy (although Texas has yet to see that).

Texas does not need an inexperienced non-Power 5 HC. However the choice is never that easy as all of the good ones have jobs, and any Texas' interest will only be met by the prospective coach getting a raise to stay where he is. No amount of money alone is going to get Saban, Meyer (even if he would be wanted), Fisher, Snow, Peterson, etc. to come to Texas to rebuild the program. It is going to take more.

The first step in the process is to get a known capable AD (Mr. Luck for example) with the cojones to tell the Texas President and the big money guys to be supportive, but butt out of the process. (We don't need Red and his buddies flying around meeting or calling people.) Let this type of AD work on and sell Texas to his chosen guy. The President and the Red's can then show solidarity and the money with the AD.

However, as wrong as it may sound, the chosen guy and his staff will have to be given high dollar guaranteed contracts. Certainty has its price.

Larry is a really good coach and comes from Texas HS coaching royalty. His situation in Chappell Hill is one of the most difficult in coaching. He has FBI, state investigators, district attorney, private investigators, plus clueless college administrators invading his department every day. yet he has turned the program around and is winning. He should be very near the top of the list for both Texas and LSU.

That has been my line of thinking ever since TH has become such a hot commodity. However, there is one big difference. TH has an IQ of 150, is a member of mensa and seems to have great analytical skills. Along with this he seems to have pretty good people skills too. This is a rare and special combination; only thinking about Nick Saban, Suburban Meyer and maybe Bobby Petrino as other examples.

It's my opinion, right or wrong, you must have the analytical skills to be able to analyse the game at the level needed to be able to do more with less. I'm sick of looking over at the sideline and see a coach with a clueless look on his face because he's simply in over his head intellectually.

Even Mack Brown was weak intellectually but he was able to overcome it with great recruiting and had some pretty smart assistants. DKR though I do believe was also was pretty sharp. I would love to find another DKR and TH may be the closest thing we can find.

Edit: after doing a little research on Larry F he is probably my 2nd choice.

We can see from the record that Coach Herman can coach but can he recruit?

He talked that 5-star tackle into making the move to Houston. I kind of liken' that effort to Rick Barnes talking TJ Ford into coming to Texas.

why would texas need to break the bank for herman? he wants that job and would definitely take it for how much you're paying strong right now.

jmo, but I like that Herman seems to be able to understand how to defend the spread, something that Strong seems to have a problem with. For sure, whoever the next coach is will have some serious talent with the last two classes. Shouldn't be that hard to recruit to Texas, at least initially.

We have to look at the available evidence. Houston has beaten Florida State and Oklahoma in the past nine months or so. Doesn't that mean something?

If we end up getting Herman, our hiring of Strong will end up being very serendipitous.
The timing for getting Herman would not have been there otherwise.
Three years of with an underwhelming hire, is worth it to end up with a coach like Herman.
Also, we need for Aggy not to have their typical end of season losing stretch. Not that I think he'd prefer Aggy, but last thing we need is more suitors coming after him.

Means at least he beat two overrated Power 5 teams. Strong has done that also - ou in 2015 and ND this season
