Three years is a reasonable amount of time to judge someone's ability as a college football coach. In the case of Charlie Strong he's 13-16 overall and 9-10 in the Big 12 as of today's date. We've suffered the worse loses by 30 points or more under his tenure and haven't won a bowl under his administration. The record speaks for itself. I know it's been only three years for Charlie Strong but his teams are not producing anything. He's not our guy. Things are not improving. I've been in Charlie's corner all this time but I've come to the conclusion that he's just not the person to run our team. I feel bad for him and wish him the best but we have to move on. I say go for Les Miles and restart this program. It's been in stalemate too long now. Go Horns and let's move forward!

Les Miles would have been a good choice -- 10 years ago. The game has passed him by. He's recruited as well as anybody except Ohio State and Alabama. Miles results lately haven't impressed.

Les would be terrible. He can't even keep up in the three yard and cloud of dust $EC.

He's not my first choice, but he's a winner. His winning percentage at LSU in higher than Saban's at LSU.

    Les Miles + Gilbert stays?

Ok, but I have a NEWS FLASH.

Someone I know at work said his Father in Law who is connected (didn't say how and I didn't ask) say's it will take $7 - 8 million to get Herman to move and Texas is clearly his number one choice. This is GUARANTEED because we were standing by the water cooler when he said it.

I will accept your congratulations at season end for being a prophet...

    Ha ha...

    KC,

You have got to be ******* kidding me. Our athletic budget is only $175 million. We would have to raise another $25 million for Miles to pay his recruits, street agents, parents, parents' bookies among others.

Ok I was just thinking ahead. I sincerely think that Les Miles would be a viable option and I know we'd break the bank to sign him. That dude is a winning coach and as you saw with Mack Brown, tenure comes to an end eventually as it did for Miles at LSU. Tom Herman ain't going anywhere. He loves it in Houston and I know the Cougars are red hot right now and he wants to ride this out. You can't get all worked up on a sizzling coach going on a two or three year stretch. Produce a national championship ring or finishing in the top 5 at the end of your season and we'll talk. Everyone should use Charlie Strong as the perfect example of this so called hot, trendy coach. We don't need a trending coach right now we need someone that can drive this Longhorn space shuttle and stabilize it as it's tumbling back to Earth. Like I said, I'm just thinking ahead because the rest of the season ain't looking that bright. I have no idea what we're going to do in the Oklahoma game and I'm cringing like when you hear that sound when chalk screeches on a black board. When I saw California and at Oklahoma State on the schedule at the beginning of the year I also cringed. My shoulders shrugged upwards like I saw an animal get run over. I hate to say this but I think we finish 7-6 considering the injuries we have on offense now and the defensive secondary that can't make plays or make basic tackles.

What about Kyle Shannahan. Don't know if he would leave the NFL. Anyone know much about him?

Other than Arkansas there are no teams that qualify as this. Have you seen Ole Miss play? The aggies throw the ball around. Auburn while not very good runs a spread as does Florida. Check out Georgia and their new QB Eason. Things aren't true just because they suit your point.

Edit- LSU did but now that Miles is gone that's changed.

I know no more than most. He played here under Mack, comes from a great coaching family, knows offense extremely well. Can he recruit, could he put together a great staff, etc are fair questions.

But you have mentioned a Texas guy who is an interesting name to put into discussion.

Speaking of the Oklahoma game, the one piece of good news is we get back OG Kent Perkins from his one game suspension. I found it striking that Mr. Disciplinarian zero tolerance policy Charlie when he first came to Texas only suspended him for one game! Another sign of regression! But then again I wasn't in that 1:1 between Charlie and Kent Perkins so I can't judge the matter.

Sounds like you are judging the matter, but I wasn't there when you wrote your post, so who am I to judge? ;)

ViperHorn has a thread called 'The Deeper Issue' with over one thousand five hundred views on it as of this writing. We sit here and debate what's wrong with us but it's such a simple answer. Past performance is an indicator of future behavior. Don't need no Stephen Hawking or Albert Einstein to tell us that. This coach is not our guy period. He's a great person, good family man, great citizen, all that stuff but he can't handle this job. He says he's accountable, says he's going to fix things and has said this for the past three years. He's 13-16 as our head coach, has suffered the worse loses by 30 points or more than any Texas football coach in Texas history, hasn't won a bowl yet and we didn't even get to a bowl last year and haven't been to one since 2014. This past Saturday we saw THREE blocked extra point attempts! How in the heck does that happen? After the first one shouldn't the head coach come over to the special team and give them an earful and tell them don't ever let that happen again? If you're a so called 'defensive' coach why do you have a defense that gives up three hundred and ninety two yards in passing and five hundred and fifty five yards receiving to Oklahoma State this weekend and those numbers are probably the average for this team over the past three years? Come on man, wake up Longhorn nation! I love Charlie and have defended him up here in Kansas City for the past three years but I can't do that anymore. I work with a bunch of Missouri Tiger morons, Kansas Jayhawk idiots, K State jerks and one Oklahoma jack@ss and I'm tired of hearing their garbage. We have GOT TO MOVE ON. I hear it day in and day out up here. But this isn't up to me. Our administration has got to wake up and understand The Deeper Issue! True dat!

horninchicago I was only stating that Charlie suspended Kent Perkins for one game while he went out and cut loose about six or seven starters when he got to Texas to set the tone of his coaching administration. A one game suspension to me is very light if you're a hard nosed guy is the point I was trying to make. But then again maybe Kent Perkins has good grades, is a good dude but just made this bad decision to drink and drive. We all make mistakes and that's what I was trying to say. Love my Horns Chitown brothers and sisters and kicked it with you guys a couple of years ago on Pershing while watching a Horns game. Went to a vodka tasting afterwards and can't wait to go back and kick it with you folks. Go Horns!

Since you use a second post to offer possible explanations for the one game suspension, you seem to have a more open mind than the original post indicated.
My comment to the first post would be:
We don't know what specific actions got those multiple players dismissed, other than the two charged with sexual assault. Neither do we know how many chances those players received to abide by Charlies' rules. (I've seen articles quoting CS saying they were not dismissed for a single violation, rather multiple violations).
We do know KPs offense and his punishment.
Sounds like it is possible you could be comparing apples and oranges. Not really fair to use the KP punishment as sign of regression.
I will say that I expected the KP punishment to be multiple games. But I am seeing one game is not unusual around the nation for first offender athletes.

Hey JustWin my point was not about precisely what happened when Charlie dismissed players at the beginning of his tenure or what the status of their dismissal was, I was only trying to state that when he came into our program he stepped in and tried to set some kind of tone about what kind of discipline image he was setting as our coach. Whatever transpired after 1:1's with certain players is between him and the players. I have no idea what was discussed but Charlie had good reasons to cut certain players loose. I trust that decision was a good one.

Agreed. My point was only to challenge your conclusion of regression.

Hey JustWin I'd get a new "advisor" if I were you because judging future behavior upon past performance is the most common standard there is out there straight up.

Hey JustWin the point isn't about what Charlie did or didn't do about discipline with certain players, the issue is we have to get back on track man! I don't even care about your "advisor" because he or she is only counseling you on your classes and keeping you on track. Listen to him or her so you can graduate on time and not waste money! Go Horns and let beat Oklahoma Saturday!!!!
