Herbie is ESPN's counter to their own $EC lovefest. However to do this he is as in love with the B1G as ESPN is with the $EC. Also, he is still bitter at Texas winning at the Shoe at night in 2005 and in the Fiesta Bowl in 2009.

How has Texas treated Strong wrong? Gave him $25 million plus an open checkbook for whatever assistants he wanted to wipe out the last 3 year's of Mack's record and get Texas back. Has that happened? Not even close. Has he shown improvement in any area? Only on offense with an asterisk - his first OC had no clue resulting in his mid-season dismissal last season, and his third OC (2 in 2015) has improved the offense, but only so far to where it was under Major's last season.

What does Herbie want - a permanently wounded Texas team that will not be competitive with the B1G and $EC heavy weights at a minimum so he and his employer can keep up with their chosen narratives?

I just watched the video and no longer have any respect for Herbstreit. What a cheap shot artist. If Ohio State had hired Strong for 5 million a year after firing Tressel and had the same results, you can bet Herstreit would be singing a different tune.
I guess he made his comments prior to a hands on Strong defense giving up 45 points and 700 yards to our rival. If an Ohio State Strong led defense gave up 45 points and 700 yards to Michigan in his third year with a losing record, Herby would be singing a different song.
    What a dung beetle.

^ THIS. I would love to see his opinion if Ohio State hired a coach that went 6-7, 5-7 and started 2-3 in year 3 against bad competition and had a defense playing this bad.

I have seen ESPN play this game before. If they like a coach who is failing, they run down the environment. ESPN did it with Sylvester Croom at Mississippi State. ESPN claimed over and over that NO ONE could win at Mississippi State and it was an impossible job while Croom was there. Croom had only one winning seasons and the other 4 seasons involved 8 or more losses. Dan Mullen followed Croom and after going 5-7 his first year, has gone to 6 straight bowl games, won 4 of them, had three 9 or more win seasons and took MSU to the orange bowl. Turns out Mississippi State was not an impossible job after all, Croom was just a bad coach.

Now ESPN has begun to embellish to cover for Strong. Calling Austin, one of the top destination spots in the world right now, a cesspool is obvious nonsense. If Coach Strong cannot turn it around, that's on Coach Strong. That is not on the elite football program with an elite university in a destination city in a football talent rich state paying him $5 million a year.

I guess Herbstreit forgets how ugly it got in Columbus for Earle Bruce & John Cooper.

I like Charlie Strong as a human being and I'm hoping he can right the ship. But at this point (13-17 at UT) he has no one but himself to blame.

Bohls addresses Austin being a cesspool

    http://www.hookem.com/columns/bohls-cesspools-go-texas-job-comes-full-support/

"CESSPOOL, USA — Hello, from the sewage capital of the world.

Judging from Kirk Herbstreit’s inflammatory comments over the weekend, when the ESPN analyst labeled the Texas football culture a “cesspool” and all but said Charlie Strong had little or no support and had been hired to fail, I know Mr. Herbstreit isn’t moving to our fair city any time soon.

I’m sure a 13-17 record in Columbus, Ohio would go over very smoothly at his alma mater, but Longhorn Nation kind of expects at least a .500 record from its head coaches and better than a 2-3 record almost at the halfway mark of his third season.

In some respects, the national broadcaster did Austin a favor. We’re privately hoping our mayor seizes the moment, and Steve Adler takes this new slogan and runs with it to thin out the traffic a bit....."

Herbstriet has dug himself a hole from which he may never be able to escape. Fans here will not forget and it will not be pretty the next time ESPN wants to do a Gameday from Austin. Frankly that day cannot come soon enough.

The more I think about the rant, the more I am scratching my head. This individual, arguably the television face of college football in this country, apparently lacks a fundamental understanding of the situation at one of the, if not "the" premier programs in the country. That's somewhat astounding.

    Duke,

Considering the **** they put in the broadcast booth, the idiot bimbos on the sideline asking questions like, "Coach, you're 67 points down at half, what do to come back", the whitewash that is 30 on 30, why would you be surprised by anything that comes out of Herbstreit's mo

Sabre, could their be a Herman angle here? In other words, for whatever reason Herbie wants to poison our program to discourage the former OSU coach?

    Duke,

I don't think so. Herbie is arrogant enough to believe that Ohio State cn hire anybody from anywhere at anytime they want to. He is upset that Texas has the largest budget, is the most profitable, and under Deloss was "the brand" with the most sales. All of these positions were held by Ohio State at one time.

My question would be whether or not ESPN is looking for a Howard Cosell arrogant loud mouth to temper all the nice stuff being spewed on GameDay. Corso, while being the smartest and most caustic in private, ain't giving up his "clown gig" to be hated by America. I really wish more people could sit one on one (or in my case one on three or four) and listen to the guy being candid). You'll miss half his comments laughing so hard.

Why would ESPN cover a game in Austin?

    RC,

You never know, ESPN may pick up the rights to a major high school playoff game in Memorial Stadium, if we ever get one moved there rather than Kyle Field, Waco, Jerry World, The Alamo Dome or Reliant.
