Kansas States sits at 3-3 having lost last week to the land thieves, 38-17 in Abby Norman. The Wildcats only allowed 138 rushing yards but surrendered 372 through the air.

Texas is coming off its first conference win of the season having beaten the TD out of Iowa State, 27-6.

While the offense flatulated through the first half (again), the defense donned their newly acquired Power Rangers armbands and held the Cyclones to season lows in all offensive totals. It was the best showing for the 'Horns' defense this season as they posted:
    • 14 TFLs
    • 8 sacks
    • 1 fumble recovery
    • 280 total yards allowed
The Purple Wizard and his warlocks are waiting in Manhattan to exact revenge for last year's defeat against Texas in Austin. As usual, the Longhorns will need to play error-free against a K-State team that has only surrendered 3 INTs and 1 fumble all year.

    What to expect:
    • Less than 140 rushing yards unless we finally stop the madness of making Kyle Porter run between the center's legs!
    • More middle-anything-plays on offense (after the last two games, Gilbert may be seeing the light)
    • Kris Boy_ doesn't do anything stupid and gets to put the "d" back on his name
    • John Bonney doesn't see the field at all (I can dream, can't I?)
    • Texas wins or loses
Sunny and 74° with light wind is the current forecast for the 11AM-CT kickoff on E$PN-2. LHN's Game Day begins at 9AM.

    HOOK 'EM!

Error free?... I'd settle for not calling a timeout that stops our own touchdown.

And yet, he is still an upgrade from Davante Davis.

This is not a joke; this actually happened... The first question to Breckyn Hager following Coach Strong's presser today:

Q: What kind of mission is this defense on, Breckyn?
    A: Kill everything.

PurpWiz said today at the Beg12 teleconference that he anticipates starting QB Jesse Ertz to play against Texas.

    Per other posters....

K-State returns 6 guys on D and they are tiny up front. Not sure what to make of this team. They don't score a ton of points - they don't run the ball terribly well or throw it with any ferocity. In fact, their starting qb Ertz has half the yards passing that SB has. Their oline is averaging about 6'3 290. Not massive by any stretch. And they only return 1 starter - the center. They get all their skill guys back - and have a little speed. There's just really nothing about them that jumps off the page at you. They lost by one point to wvu - and mud holed tech. A few breaks go their way and they beat Stanford - but they were mud holed by OU.

    It's just a weird team.

With all that said I never look past K-State. Learned my lesson the hard way many times! This team looks like a cake walk but then always wakes up for Texas. Boggles my mind!

Statistically, they are the best defense in the B12. Very disciplined, fundamentally sound, and play hard to the whistle. Typical Snyder coached team.

Playing them in Manhattan is very scary. Strong's teams at Texas simply have not played well on the road. This will be a huge test for Charlie to turn this ship around. Its k state's homecoming as well.

IF we can win in Manhattan I will be pleasantly surprised.

Obviously we MUST win at KSU....but the huge test for Charlie to turn the corner is the Baylor game. This will show whether Charlie can handle Big 12 big boy football. Barring injury this week, Baylor will have their #1 QB this year instead of 4th string/nobody like last year....and they have two weeks to prepare for us.

    Injury Updates

As noted by our ace reporter, @LonghornCatholic, DT Jordan Elliott will have his MCL repaired and miss the remainder of the season. Not good as he was beginning to make his presence felt more consistently on the line.

C Zach Shackelford will be evaluated during the week after having his ankle/leg "accidentally" mangled during the game.

RT Brandon Hodges was reported to miss two games last week due to a leg injury; there are no reports if he'll be returning this week.

RBs Chris Warren and Kirk Johnson (both with knocked knees) are still on the mend and likely out for the remainder of the season.

We’ll start with the team meeting that was reported on quite heavily last week.

We had a chance to speak with a few people in regards to the happenings inside the locker room, and what we learned was that the reports were mostly exaggerated from the sources we spoke with. While there was an airing of grievances between players and coaches, everyone is on the same page going forward. Our sources specifically told us that any talk of “fireworks” were exaggerated and an attempt to stir drama.

“Everyone knows what’s happened this season. Nobody took it personally, everyone knows this is a team pulling together. Were some harsh things said? Absolutely. There is no divide in this locker room though, everyone is focused on a common goal to win out for each other and for Coach Strong.”

Another source we spoke to didn’t appreciate the attempt to make something more out of it than what it was.

“Guys on this team know that everyone isn’t pulling their weight. Everyone who spoke in that meeting also acknowledged that they had to improve as well. We know there are people out there that want to see us torn apart, but we aren’t going to let them. This is a family.”

Anyone who has ever played knows there are times when harsh truths have to be told in order to achieve accountability, and that sounds like exactly what happened.

Sounds like this team may be ready to journey deep into the Lands of Manhattandor and break the curse.

In the words of a young sorcerer-slayer, "Kill everything!" (Sir Breckyn of Hager)

Ahh, the scorched earth policy may be just what is needed to break the evil purple wizard's curse upon horns who set cleat in the land of manhattandor. Methinks I like the cut of his jib, the young knight of the horns, Sir Breckyn of Hager.

Hager tells it like it is, and plays all out! His father was my favorite guys back in the 80s and now he is getting there.

Whether it be due to the quarterback play, the offense, or both, 13 different receivers have caught a pass this season, with seven different receivers catching touchdowns. In addition, six players have more than 10 catches, and eight players are averaging more than 10 yards per catch.

Even with the distribution, Buechele said he does have one favorite target.

“We have so many athletes on our side of the ball,” Buechele said. “You try to give them all the ball just to see what they can do. My favorite receiver is the open guy. I try and hit him.”

This. The offense has been degraded with the Warren and Johnson injuries, but the receivers should be the best group of receivers top to bottom in the country (even with Burt included in the mix).
