Hiring the best Defensive Coordinator in the country? Let's assume that UT (Perrin, et al.) is behind him financially. So if money is no object, is Charlie smart enough to find and hire the best DC out there?

    Would they even come, though?

I think this is the question. A great DC wants a great HC to work for and a chance to win big. They have to see UT as a destination to do that, imo.

I am a big fan of Strong's recruiting
And while he gets credit for making a switch at OC, he was way too slow to recognize and address that problem.
Likewise, there are multiple additional recurring issues with this team that have not been remedied yet.
Can he get all of this fixed, including a top shelf DC? Perhaps. But maybe the better question is - how long is all of this going to take him? We seem to be on a 10-year plan.

The unfortunate reality for Charlie is that several of his contemporaries have turned college teams around quickly (Meyer, Harbaugh). Those comparisons make Strong look like he is stuck in concrete.

    Baker - NO!

Sapo - If they wouldn't come when he was offering three year full buyout contracts for waaayyyy too much money, why would they come for his waning months? A RESOUNDING NO!

I think CS could bring in a talented DC because the roster is simply loaded. So whomever would take the job would have a serious opportunity to pad their resume, if nothing else. Further, if the right individual came in and coached lights out, perhaps they would be in line for the head job...

I agree with this statement in spades. We're taking about apparent lack of preparation, poor fundamentals, penalties, inconsistent and sometimes very bad special teams play, terrible clock management, odd play selection, etc.

They would have to overpay on a contract that pays him even if he leaves with Charlie then goes to a new team. Double dipping on lots of money is enough for a DC to try to help Charlie right this ship. because if a DC does do that here at TEXAS, then he's made his next contract already.

With the Les Miles change, I'd go after Aranda. He's young and has been tops for several years

Maybe Charlie is the best DC money can Buy. Guess we will know after a few more games.

Maybe He just needs to hire an assistant head coach that that can help "remedy" some of the problems.
