Petrino? I think he's caught lightning in a bottle this year with Jackson, but he's also been a winner almost everywhere he's coached. Are his past moral indiscretions enough to disqualify him?
He is a great coach and a good guy. People will talk about his situation in Washington County, how he left Atlanta and Loserville. The situation at Auburn. Have any of these critics ever met with the man or dealt with him? I seriously doubt it. That aside, he won't get consideration. Question is whether he will consider Auburn again.
No...Thats the guy I want. He is a winner. We won't get Saban, Meyer, Swinney, or Washington coach.....Charlie may have fooled around at Louisville ( won't know since divorce case was settled before he had to testify. ) and we took him.
Are you talking about Petrino? He's originally from nowhere Idaho or Montana. Dad coached him in HS. wen tot some small college (think McMurry or Howard Payne). He was a QB and/or OC for several places including NFL over 15-20 years before landing the Loserville gig. I think he is known better as a developer of talent than recruiter, but I do know that he recruited decently at Arkansas, including getting his first choice of HS QBs twice. He will never get consideration from Texas, but possibly Auburn or LSU, both of whom are more interested in winning than giving a **** about public opinion. Remember we are the most politically correct university in America except for a couple of segments of Bellmont.
He has a very sordid past. Hiring him would be like hiring The Donald to run a girl's academy. No thanks!
The man puts up a lot of W's. Who freaking cares if he fooled around at Arky. This PC crap gets in the way of winning. Would you rather compete for titles or lose every year but be really PC? I'll take winning every freaking day and twice on Sunday!
This is according to my memory, so maybe not 100% accurate. When he was HC at Arkansas, he got into a motorcycle accident while a young hot female was in the sidecar. It then came out he had given her a job in the athletic department at Arkansas. Eyebrows were raised with the thought that she was his side chick. That's why he left Arkansas. He was killing it on the field.
Wouldn't it be awesome if we took Louisvilles HC twice in a row? UT:We like your football coach UL: ugg, darn ...3 years later UT: lol jk, we don't like this guy anymore. We like your new guy. UL: ... *facepalm*
Petrino showed his mettle when he coached at places other than Louisville. It would be like hiring Mackovic again. "Well he's won at a couple different places so we might as well hire him" would be the only argument for it. He wasn't just foolin' around at Arkansas, he was caught with a former grad assistant and volleyball player who was a close family friend while she was a student. The way things have changed over the past two years in the landscape of Title IX infringements, there ain't no way we're going down that road. If you want someone who is Power-5 right now and needs a payday to show his mettle, I'd say Mike MacIntyre or Dave Clawson is your man.
Go for it, we definitely have seen that a couple of good seasons at Louisville translates well to success at Texas.
I just heard an "amen" from Waco. The "PC crap" about not hiring people with lousy character has nothing to do with wins and losses. This idea that you either have to have a scumbag for a coach or lose every year is just wrong. CS isn't losing games because of his core values or because he's never cheated (that we know of) or that he tries to run a clean program. It's because he apparently can't seem to teach guys assignment football, he doesn't know anything about special teams and apparently doesn't care enough to learn, and he's stubborn enough that he continually believes that next week will be different. Next week, the same preparation will make us stop quitting on third downs, giving up 15 yards per kickoff return by simply not taking a knee, running a predictable offense with no seeming regard for down, distance or game situation, and generally playing like we don't really believe we can make a play.
No to Petrino. There would be problems that would embarrass the University and there is no way to know where they would come from.
No way. If his indiscretion at Arky was just with some woman, I would overlook it as none of my business. But the guy violated so many ethical and legal considerations there by screwing around with a student athlete / offering employment... Just horrible, horrible judgment.
Problem is the powers that be have transformed the school into the University of Austin while abandoning the traditional University of Texas. Hard to claim we represent the state when we clearly make PC decisions fitting the imported culture of Austin...a far cry from the values of most Texans.
