If I was hiring for 8-10 wins a year and the best press conferences in the country and not for national championships, yes.

If we are going all fantasyland here, how about Leach as HC and bringing in the MOB for halftime every week.

With all of the 7 on 7 talent in Texas he would be deadly at UT. Mainly, because he is really good at evaluating and developing QB talent. Pay someone like Chavis $1m a year and you might be in the playoffs every year.

I am not sure how he would fit with the UT culture but he would definitely win football games.

Is Leach's personality conducive to top recruiting classes? I don't think so. Leach seems more inclined to take the hard worker and coach 'em up than catering to the divas. UT fans would curse him for not signing the top class in the State of Texas each year.

Since we are playing with wild hypotheticals...

How about this package...3-year contract Leach as HC with Coach Boom as DC?

I'd be all over that one.

He has some of the best post game rants in the country. I don't believe he'd be a good fit at Texas. But what could he build with the resources he would have at Texas?

    Joe,

Find his post game presser this past Saturday. Hilarious. Leach called out Todd Graham the week before, and the PAC12 fined him $10,000. The resulting press conference after his win at ASU is pure Mike Leach. The guy really is a breth of fresh air to all the coach speak.

FWIW,being fined for calling out Todd Graham for being a cheater and all around worthless piece of **** is like being fined for paying a Piedras Negras boys town ***** for a blowjob.

It's at Arizona State. It is doubtful they can afford anything better since they endured a few years with Steve Patterson as AD.

Well that hurts a little. I may need to go roll around in a pile of my UT severance dollars for a while to soothe the insult.

    Hook'em!

Todd Graham calling Mike Leach "chicken ****"? There isn't even an analogy for that. Anybody know how many resumes Graham sends a week to Perrin, or Baton Rouge, or South Bend, or Waco, or Eugene, or Exposition in LA?

Possibly so. OTOH, he managed to convince some pretty talented to guys to play football in a hybrid of Tattooine and cow manure.

People don't like hiring coaches who haven't shown they can win championships in a P5 conference, but they're on-board with hiring one who's shown he can't?

Seriously. People. Ledge there... back away...

Not sure about his recruiting to Lubbock but WSU relies on coaching up 2* talent (diamonds in the rough?) and castoffs from other Power 5 conference programs. Can you imagine Austin being a home for wayward players from other programs with the promise to revive their football careers?

He wouldn't have to do that in Austin. He would have the pick of the litter from all of the 7on7 talent in TX. Scary to think about for the rest of the country.

It'd be like having multiple Crabtrees.

Now I personally do not favor Leach's version of the spread (I'm still a very dedicated Ellisonite, therefore tend to favor the Meyer/Mullen/Herman/Briles/Gilbert shades), but he wouldn't be a bad pickup either.

Leach has taken rejects that few wanted and made them into football players. Who else would take Graham Harrell? Was "the Katy Redhead" on anyone's list? As for Crabtree, remember that he went to Tech to play basketball. Leach is one of the best at coaching up kids. Selling it to 4 & 5 stars? Not sure Leach can sell ice water in hell, but I am reasonably sure he could find a way to make it cooler.

If you ever get the chance to sit with the guy in a relaxed environment, don't pass it up. He is outrageously funny in an informal setting.
