But I am just now getting on the Fedora bandwagon. Let's see how Herman does against Louisville.

Nope, Sshow part II coming to DKR when the new savior arrives.
We are Texas, it's what we do.

I predicted this long before we rode Mack outta town. I'll bet he is laughing his *** off.

BTW, I feel Strong is good, we are just ADHD Texas. We give new meaning to the grossley overused football clique "Next Man Up".

Many people had low exceptions for Mack too when he first arrived.

No one knows how Herman will do, just like they didn't know how Mack would do. Thats if Herman comes at all.

No way they will announce Herman is our next coach before they officially fire Charlie.

Get ready for backlash from every direction, including current players and recruits, if indeed Herman is a done deal.

    I don't want Herman.
Don't want to have to watch him kissing the players before each game.

What is it about his performance to date that persuades you he is good? We are getting worse. He doesn't know what to do and keeps saying the same predictable crap. "We just have to play better." And cashing huge checks for that bs while the program swirls the toilet bowl.

I agree. I remember when Gary Barnett was the front runner in a lot of people's minds. Some folks thought we wiffed when we hired Mack Brown. Personally speaking, Brown inherited a good team, but he kept it rolling long after Mackovic's guys were gone. If this is truly Charlie's last year, the next coach will inherit a similar team (lots of talent, but a defense that needs a tune-up). This year, there are no 'splash hire' coaches available. We need to make sure we get someone who is up to the task of not only managing the team, but has the support to manage the institution. Is that Herman? I don't know.

I wonder if the environment of college football has changed so much that there can only be a few elite coaches (and those guys aren't going anywhere). Is the problem we have only coaching or are there some institutional issues we have to address, as well? My guess is that it's both. Whatever it is, and whatever happens, I hope we have a smoother transition this time around if a transition happens.

There have always been and there will always be elite coaches. We know that Saban, Harbaugh and Meyer fit that description, as did DKR. We just don't know yet who the next one will be. Hopefully whoever it is, he will be walking the sidelines next September in Austin and wearing burnt orange.

It wasn't just that we hired the wrong coach. It was every part of the process was flawed and handled like amateur hour, only it lasted for months. I want to believe someone learned from that disaster but the bakers of that cake are largely gone. Could be more of the same inept mismanagement if no one is in charge and we fail to make good and appropriately timed decisions.

I agree we do not want a coach kissing the players. I am still trying to come to terms with players holding hands. I wonder if Nobis would be on board with holding hands or getting kissed by DKR.

I'd think that UT would get into all kinds of trouble for tampering if that rumor were true. Anyway, Herman doesn't look like such a genius now, does he?

Straight from Herman's mouth he said he meets with his team and speaks honestly about his coaching future.

Since the LSU job opened and his name appeared as the #1 target for several major programs, Herman's team has looked flat and disengaged.

Seeing as that's far from his team's mentality and performance before then, it's no coincidence why they've fallen off.

Even a few more losses won't taint Herman in the eyes of interested AD's. Pretty much everyone realizes his team is bailing on a coach with one foot out the door.

Someone please tell me why there seems to be a consensus belief that we have very talented players-and that the lack of coaching is the real problem.

They haven't produced to date. Recruiting results indicate that Strong doesn't pressure them to commit early, and then a cascade of players commit at the last moment. We all get excited about the commitments in the last 48 hours. Does this excitement suggest that we get overly confident that " the Horns are getting a darn good bunch of commits and that "Strong is a really good recruiter who gets a lot of talent"?

I don't know the answer. Someone who does please enlighten me. Thanks.

No question he's a very good recruiter. Coaches throughout the country will tell you the same thing.

    Recruiting isn't the problem.

I hope that no deal has been struck yet. I favor the approach of looking and talking with several candidates.

I hope that no deal has been struck yet. I favor the approach of finishing the season and then checking final performance against expectations. What if Charlie finishes 8-4 or 7-5 with a bowl win? What if the new savior, whoever he might have looked like at mid-season, finishes with a losing record? Let the records play out first and then act accordingly.

I agree. I have been trying to avoid it because 8-5 is still possible (though improbable with Baylor, @tech and WVU), but I have gotten caught up in the speculation and Fedora campaign with everyone else. This season is not over. Winning out from here would be a huge turn around and merit at least another season. I will be there Saturday pulling for Strong and the Horns to beat Baylor! Vegas says it will be a close one!

As someone who met DKR when I was 17 y.o. at my high school football banquet, and had admired him since I was 9 years old, when I saw him coach against TCU (and he lost that year, but I loved him anyway) I can guarantee you that he would not have wanted Nobis to kiss him, nor would he have wanted to kiss Nobis.

I will guarantee you that there was mutual respect galore, and that Nobis would have run through a wall if Coach Royal would have asked him to.

Maybe both Strong and Herman have been given no guarantees of firing or hiring? My guess is Perrin had a talk with Strong about what is expected of him the remainder of the season, and Herman was told he is the one Texas wants if Strong doesn't produce a miracle.

Herman I'm sure didn't commit and neither did Texas.

If Tom Herman comes to Texas which I'm positive will happen; they are going to have to change the rules of college football because it's not going to be a fair fight.

    Watch what's about to happen.
