he doesn't answer any question directly, pretty disappointing. curious because i haven't watched a ton of these, or maybe haven't noticed... is it often that he isn't wearing a Texas logo shirt?? was sporting a big XII shirt today. probably reading too much into it.
Agreed. CS does not have the answers and the reason why is he is the problem. So these pressers are just a public flogging at this point, but as long as he is getting 5 million $, we may as well make hm work for it. Maybe he'll resign if we are lucky.
I've actually wondered about this. The man has to be stressed to the max. He may want out just as much as he's wanted out.
LonghornCatholic, Charlie being stressed out to the max is an understatement. Just imagine the intense pressure he's under, doing press conferences on Monday's and trying to explain himself. He probably has trouble sleeping, constantly thinks about his job every minute of the day, worries to the tenth degree about everything and still has five more weeks to go! I know I couldn't do it. Even if I'm getting paid a ton every month I'd feel bad that I'm not producing anything and walk around having people giving me "the look." It's plain crazy and all of us here add even more pressure to the poor dude but it comes with the territory. He knew what he was getting into and when he leaves it's going to be a relief, a thousand pound weight will be lifted off his shoulders it's going to feel like. I wish him the best and thank him for his short service because I know he tried very hard to help us.
Perrin will give him the $10 million if he quits as payment for saving the University from not having to face the backlash of firing him. (There will still be backlash, but Strong will man-up and tell those people to shut-up.)
If he is so big on core values and is such an uber-stand-up guy, why does he continue to take our money and turn out this crap show for a product, all the while saying the same things over and over which mean nothing?
Amen, Phil! Where are the core values in receiving millions when the record does not support getting such remuneration?
Isn't protocol for schools like UT to accept the coaches "RESIGNATION" (code language for "you're fired, but we'll spin it to the media and pay you to keep your mouth shut & not sue us")....?!?!?
This. I don't watch the pressers any more... I don't like seeing a good man beaten down. I just wish CS the most graceful exit possible given the circumstances.
I wrote about this after the Okie State game. He's in a no-win situation, both figuratively and literally. Literally, he just can't put together a winning team as we all know. Figuratively, he can't resign -- although I wish he would, for his own health and the health of the program -- because if he did, he would be abondoning his players...something I cannot see him doing.
Some things stand out. Watching late after those turnovers, offense ran on first two downs. To me that's a momentum killer. Since Cal game been mystified at slow developing plays. Standing watching sidelines then the play. Kills rhythm. Today, guys on 104.9 Austin pointed out: why run on 1st and 2nd down, behind 2 scores? I was in agreement. Gilbert has held back a fluid gates-open offense. Especially at key times when you need to punch it. Have no answer for it.
I agree with this sentiment entirely. Charlie has worked his *** off trying to get the job done, but has not produced the necessary results. What backlash? How could anybody give UT grief for parting ways with Strong given the 3 year results?
It is absurd that the race issue is being mentioned. Mack Brown won a title and was fired for results that CS has not come close to achieving, and no evidence of improvement halfway through year 3
Exactly. Any idiot who would bring in the race angle in the face of the results is just that - an idiot.
True, but it its practically a foregone conclusion that it WILL be raised by some idiots. Michael A. Smith comes to mind.
Not sure about the current contract w CS, but it was state law that no employee can get a cash settlement for the remaining term of his contract if that employee quits. I doubt Perrin can offer anything other than a graceful exit. The $10M is guaranteed unless he takes another job.
Technically the State doesn't pay his salary. The Athletic Department does out of their revenue. If Perrin, Fenves and McRaven want it paid - it will be paid.
You are stating the source of the funding. CS is an employee of the Univ of Texas. https://salaries.texastribune.org/highest-paid/
