So, many times against Kansas State, we'd have one fewer CB to one or both sides of the field than they have CBs, relying on an LB or safety to rush over to that side of the field immediately if the QB throws a quick pass to that side. I suppose there is a reason to do this on occasion as it allows said LB/safety to also cover a running play up the middle much better, however, against competent QBs and WRs, you can't do it repeatedly as they will easily gain 8-10 yards on a pass play that has almost no risk. I don't know why we lined up on defense that way over and over again against Kansas State, but what's really maddening is this: there was a perfect time to line up that way over and over again recently - last year against Baylor, when they had a WR playing QB who could barely hit anything with a pass and Baylor was calling for 90% runs. The wide passes weren't very dangerous there b/c Hawthorne couldn't reliably hit the WR in stride, and the RBs they were using in the wildcat only threw 1 pass the entire game. So what did we do then? What we should have been doing vs K-State - lining up a CB right on every single wide out.

    This was a depressing read...

The fact that we had Roach trying to cover a slot receiver should get a defensive coordinator fired.
