Our Offense

Our offense has become a predictable pattern of unimaginative runs up the middle, endless quick throws to the sideline, and once or twice per quarter, we throw it deep. Sometimes we're able to win a battle on pure talent. Against pushovers, we score a lot, but against decent opposition, it's generally good for 20-30 points/game.

Wait a minute; that sounds familiar...

My Oh My....... We have the Tulsa offense, not the Baylor offense...Seriously this system is not good against quality defenses. Macho has hit on something.

Mneh...against any competent defense GDGD would have had Buechele running the same 3-4 plays, minus the deep ball, in a timid max protect formation that virtually ensured a loss. I'll take Gilbert any day.

    Points through first 7 games...

    2014 Watson: 164 (23.4 ppg)
    2015 SW/JN: 170 (24.3 ppg)
    2016 Gilbert: 253 (36.1 ppg)

Maybe it's gotten a lil more mundane, but I'm not laying blame on SG's offense when CS and VB clearly sabotage any chance of beating decent opponents.

Right now SG raised our scoring by 12 ppg with a true Frosh QB. He's winning for the most part, while the other two are getting trampled.

Good data. And folks need to remember again that the O only had the ball for 21:34 last Saturday, and we had key drops including a TD. With any D and less drops we easily score over 30 and win the game.

I'd definitely take Gilbert over Davis, but we're 5th in the conference in points per game and trending downwards.

    Sapo,

Are you saying that you didn't like the bubble screen on third and 24 or a two yard out on third and twelve?

My original quote: "Greg Davis is as predictable as an Alter Call in a Southern Baptist Church on Sunday morning. It's going to happen, book it." FWIW, that quote came from before virtually anyone on this board knew who Greg was, back when Greg was calling plays at A&M.

When it's so hard to choose can't I just say I loved them all?

And wouldn't you know it.... modernized and keeping with the times :D

The our WRs can look the ball into their hands AND manage to hold on to it, the O numbers could trend back up. But I get the feeling that this team has about mailed it in for the year.

This only goes to show how bad Watson was. Gilbert is a welcome improvement, but isn't without his flaws, and opposing teams are catching on. ISU held us scoreless until less than a minute before halftime. KSU held us to 7 points until the last minute of the 3rd quarter, and we only scored again with less than a minute to play. These aren't the best defenses in the country, and we barely managed to score on them.

The best/worst moment was how he threw away our first possession against OU in 2010.

1st and 10: pass to a stationary Kirkendoll behind the LOS for -2 yards
2nd and 12: pass to a stationary Kirkendoll behind the LOS for -2 yards
3rd and 14: quick hitch to the TE Smith over the middle for 7 yards

Should have been fired on the spot for that series.
