With the Longhorns sitting at 3-4, will Texas make a bowl game this season?

My head is saying no, but my heart will say yes with some adult beverages just before the game. So NO for me.:brickwall:
There is an article about this on 247 Sports.

I certainly hope not. This team has so underachieved that they don't deserve a bowl even if they go 7-5 or 8-4. Spare me the ******** "we need the extra practices". Spring practice, summer workouts, fall practice, and eight weeks into the season, we still have WRs running the wrong routes, DBs that don't know where to lineup. Three weeks in December isn't going to make any difference or any improvement to this group. Play out the rest and try to not get anyone hurt.

I've attended games and been a fan for five decades, and this is the first time I've ever felt this way. Brown's teams frequently lacked fundamentals, but Charlie Strong has truly taken it to a new level.

    My guess is no.

My general prediction for the rest of the season:

    Baylor: L
    Texas Tech: L
    West Virginia: L
    Kansas: W
TCU: W (I am guessing the players rally for a farewell home win and carry Strong off the field one final time.)

    5-7

However, I could easily see us beating Tech and Baylor, for example, and losing the rest. We could probably have any sort of combination in the above games to go 4-8 or 5-7. There is no way to be certain. I do not think any game is a certain W or L. I would say Baylor and WVU are probable losses. Tech and TCU are maybe losses but we should beat at least 1 of them. Kansas is a probable win.

I am only somewhat sure we will beat Kansas. It is a road game and we haven't played well on the road the last couple of seasons. The rest are pretty much an L. This season has been a big disappointing so far with the unimproved D and ST play. The O is better but the boneheaded in-game decisions are the big problem. 8-4 is the cutoff and I do not foresee Strong getting there. I don't see him getting to 6-6.

Baylor and WVU - guaranteed losses
TTU and TCU - lose at least one
    KU - easy win

At the very best we finish 3-2 (6-6) rest of way. My take is 2-3 (5-7).

Even overachieving to reach 6-6 we have no business in a bowl. It only takes focus away from the reality of regime change and the process to get it right.

Immediate question is how ugly it will get this Sat...

Bears have #3 scoring offense (43.7 ppg) and #1 scoring defense (17.2 ppg) in conf.

They're #1 in pass defense and it's not even close. (160.8 ypg, 3 TD, 8 INT). Run defense is 4th and no doubt we'll face a stacked box.

They will score 40+ on us without question. There's no way we're gonna suddenly play sound defense against the 2nd best scoring offense we've faced in conf.

If they hold us to 24 or less like they did 5 of 6 opponents, the wrath to oust Strong will only get harsher.

I mean really, what happens if we lose 43-16? Do we keep going as is?

Not saying we have a chance, but are their stats that impressive vs teams with a pulse?

No doubt the only strong opponent was OSU, and it was a close game until late separation TD.

However, we just witnessed the mediocre KSU offense gash our defense for 411 yards.

Baylor threw for 387 and 4 TD's on OSU. A week before they ran for 469 and 5 TD's on ISU. Apparently they can gash the hell out of a defense either way the dam is leaking. And our dam gushes both ways.

It's a good bet they rack up huge yards and score 40+. The question is can we hang on offense like OSU and ISU did most of game? I don't see us within a TD.

Baylor and West Virginia, at least on paper at this point in time, appear to be on another level from anyone else on our schedule. We do get both at home and are 3-0 at DKR this season.

At home, we beat what has turned out to be a bad 2-5 Fighting Irish team, a UTEP team that is 2-5 in Conference USA, and an Iowa State team that is 1-6 in the Big XII. The records of our home opponents is a combined 5-15 (.333 winning %) - not exactly murderer's row.

Baylor (AP #8) and West Virginia (AP #10) are teams in a completely different category who have the talent to administer a beat down of epic proportions. Don't get me wrong - I hope you are right and that we take full advantage of home field. I will be at DKR this weekend to support the Horns.

That being said, Strong is mentally weak, and it infects the team. We beat Kansas. We lose every other game. Strong gets put out of his misery.

One will finish with at least one loss (One true champion deal). I would say 50/50 that both lose a game other than the game against each other.

Don't blame the messenger but...I know lifelong Horn fans who are currently conflicted as to whether or not to pull for Texas because they want for this nightmare to be over. They believe, as I do, that unless we pull off a miracle against Baylor, it would be best to announce Sunday that a decision has been made to make a change after the season is over. That would accomplish two things: First, a massive weight would be lifted off Strong and the team's shoulders, and secondly, it would send an unambiguous message to all candidates that indeed Texas will be hiring a new HC in December.

What's with the love affair for this year's bailer team?? # 1 in this, #2 in that...But Bluto--they have only played ONE team with a winning record (okie lite AT home), 4 of the other teams are all 1-6 and the other 5 teams whose initials are not okie lite are a combined 7-28--was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? HELL NO!...

I'll take the heat because I see this guy in the mirror. I'm not sorry for it, I love our Horns and can't stand the embarrassing state our program is in under CS.

I pull for Texas every game by nature, but when games end now and the wheels came off...I'm more thankful than disappointed.

It's one step closer to our questionable AD to commit to the only decision that will lead us back to national relevance again.

Strong is not the right coach to consistently compete for conf titles, etc at this high level.

I've never felt this detached before in decades of UT football, but now taking temporary lumps is a necessary means to an end.

I will say nearly all of the hardcore Texas fans I know have adopted this stance.

The reason now is so different from the past is there are many fans dying for CS to provide even a handful of fuel to make excuses to keep him.

If he magically finished 7-5 and won a bowl, the support to allow another year would come pouring in.

And then next year we'd be excited and suffer more embarrassment showing up unprepared, unfocused, and lacking basic football techniques.

Sorry I'm not sorry, but I want this nightmare to end and allow legit promise of a competent leader to enter the picture.

Go Horns, beat Baylor, but when we don't it's one step closer to future success.

There is no way this team gets to a bowl game this year barring some weird voodoo. The offense is in the top 40 (which is 'ok') but the defense is so far down the screen I can't scroll there with my mouse without hurting the joints in my fingers.

Uh, no. You are free to make any plans you wish during the upcoming bowl season since there will be no Texas game to watch.

I would not be surprised if we made a bowl game. This Texas team could beat every remaining opponent on the schedule...or this Texas team could lose every remaining opponent on the schedule. Texas has the talent, but is short on coaching.
I would not be surprised if we beat Baylor in a close game tomorrow. I would also not be surprised if we we get beat by 28 points by Baylor tomorrow.

I change my thought to "I would be pleasantly surprised if we beat Baylor in a close game ....."
I know and understand the thought process of losing to get the coaching change, but I just can't get there.
I will always pull for Texas to win and support the players that chose Texas and put in the effort and work in to play for Texas. They will be Longhorns for the rest of their life, just like me and I will be there to support them. I don't suffer fools around me in the stands that boo our players. I have no problem with people in the stands that make the observation of what a tool we have for a head coach, as our players deserved better.

I will pull for Fenves and Perrin to what they should have done at the end of last year and boot Strong regardless of his record at the end of this year and regardless of whether or not if we make a bowl game.

^ I cannot get on board with wanting Texas to lose either. Every W and L in the record book matters regardless of the head coach.

Let me clarify, my mindset walks in juiced up to win every game we play. That's just human nature for diehard Horns when the team takes the field.

And still cheer loudly as we succeed and moan and groan while we flounder.

However, when the battle is over and we've already lost, now any feeling of letdown is quickly replaced with refreshing thoughts of better days are closer.

As for booing I'm guilty of two occasions...Route 66 and Big 12 Champ game vs. CU. Then again, anyone on hand knows 3/4 of the stands were booing. :smile1:
