THE ENGLISH DEPARTMENT on the 40 would be so proud of us even though we all "bought our notes" !

Worst I've ever been treated @ Cal. .....and I go to many AWAY games!

I'm watching an avg. USC team run amuck on CAL! .......,Geez!

I'm a Charlie "apologist" and I guess I'm sooooo wrong. Guy is a recruiting MONSTER but it's NOT translated on the field.

Aggie: In the words of Dean Wormer " I hate those guys".

    Ok! I'm done.....for now!!!!!!

So many brag on Strong's recruiting like it was an upgrade over Mack even in his late years. How so? Recruit rankings? Wins?

Since recruiting classes vary in size year by year, the only way to compare is by avg. stars per recruit.

Each of Mack's final 3 classes beat all of Strong's three. Mack had an average star rating of 3.6 or better those years, Strong never has reached that at Texas.

And we won't even get into how much better Mack was before his decline.

Strong is a good recruiter, but still nothing near the guy he replaced.

The book on Charlie was he unearths hidden lower star talent. Really? Well why can't these supposed diamonds in the rough string together a winning season?

Charlie being an upgrade in recruiting over fading Mack is a myth. The evidence is contradictory in both avg star grading and results on the field.

Face it, Charlie Strong is a downgrade over the coach he replaced in every single area but behavior and discipline.

CEO, PR, coaching, recruiting, etc. Everything that has to do with actually winning games, we have a far lesser coach than even a fading Mack.

It's time to let Strong's myths fade away. All the hype was unfounded. He's a man who runs a character driven program, and does so to the tune of losing records.

Or maybe the new coaching of the holdovers did nothing but lower their ceiling. Seeing as the post-Mack recruits filling our defense now can't seem to line up or make a tackle.

All I'm saying is on the field results now don't show Strong has done any better in recruiting. Many of these supposed "steals" are getting abused on Saturdays.

I believe it's more poor coaching than a lack of talent. But certainly can't pat Strong on the back for excellent recruiting when those players aren't producing a winning record.

It is not hard to recruit to the University of Texas. The cupboard was not bare for Mack Brown and it was not for Charlie either.

Putting a crown on any coach at the University of Texas as a great recruiter is a complete and utter ******* joke!!!!

Brad Austin speaks the truth. I agree we have talent, but there has not been any evidence of any talent upgrade anywhere but QB.

The average star rankings are lower and we have not seen any evidence of superior talent on the field. I think the talent would show with better a coach, but until that happens, there is not any evidence of a talent upgrade anywhere other than QB.

Mack Brown had the #2 class in 2012 according to Rivals with 28 players. Charlie Strong had rhe #12 recruiting class with 29 players in 2015. That is worse in the recruiting rankings.

If you point to how they did on the field, so far there have not been any on the field results under Charlie. As Brad this, the "coaching up lower star players" thing has not happened.

Stats are for losers (or so I hear). Consider this, were either mack's or Charlie's recruits (regardless of stars or high school potential) worse than the recruits for K-state, Iowa State, OK state, and the hoard of other mediocre teams we have lost to the last few seasons.

At some point it is coaching

Considering we have only 3 seniors starting for this game, I doubt that. Consider how the OL has more talent right now than it's had since 2006 or so, I doubt that even further. Also, Buchele has more talent than any QB we've had since McCoy. We are like 9-deep at WR. Malik, while having quite the disappointing sophomore slump, was a better recruit than anybody since probably Derrick Johnson, or at least since Emmanuel Acho and Keenan Robinson. We've got the talent, but most of them are freshman and sophomores, and the gameday decisions are dubious, and a lot of the schemes just plain don't work.

Just my opinion but I do not agree with this. Just don't see that pass protection, nor running lanes are the best they have been in 10 years.

This^^^. I really think that the talent on the squad is very good. Experience on the O line is invaluable. When Shack gets a couple of years, and he is centering it to a junior Shane, this offense will truly rock. But my sad conclusion is that our defense will NOT be coached up to meet the demands that B12 offenses throw at you, unless there is a change in coaching.

Youth and a lack of experience is the culprit? Try this on for size...

#6 tOSU (6-1) is the least experienced team (128th) in the nation

    - 3 of 4 RB's are FR, including leading rusher
    - 8 of 10 WR's are FR/SO, including leading receiver
    - 5 of 8 top tacklers are FR/SO, including leader
    - 3 of 5 top sack leaders are FR/SO, including leader
    - 4 of 5 with INT's are FR/SO, including leader

Kind of pisses all over the "we're just young" theory. :smile1:

8-0 Bama is least experienced in SEC
7-0 Clemson is least experienced in ACC

Sure a losing record because of youth is a common excuse for a lacking coach. However when your coach's competency is in line with his top-10 mega salary, it's no excuse at all.

The coaches above (21-1) laugh at youth being an acceptable excuse for losing.

But hey we're only Texas with a top-10 paid head coach, it's okay to still suck because we're still young. :rolleyes1:
