That is the beauty of our democratic system. Voting in a presidential election is not a requirement of citizenship. I do not have an issue with his choice. What he has done is start and expanded a conversation whether he meant to or not.

His refusing to stand for the National Anthem happened "on the field"
His kneeling in protest happened "on the field"
No, his decision to not to vote did not happen "on the field". Sorry that offends you

A former United States President left his ballot blank as well. But I guess since W didn't need people to vote for him to become president, it was all kind of a wash.

Apparently, a lot of people didn't vote. Dems were down 5 million from 2012 while Repus were about the same. So, I guess you can be mad outraged at a lot of people. Did you vote?

A lot of people marching in the streets after the election did not vote.

The only "conversation" I have heard him make was saying people are "oppressed". He has never indicated who is oppressed, who is oppressing them, and facts showing those people are oppressed by someone else. He brings bias on himself and his industry with his actions, and is unable to justify any of his claims. There is the conversation.

Thanks for agreeing with me.
I'm not "offended" or showing "moral outrage." I'd simply prefer to have discussions about political opinion on the West Mall board.
And yes, I feel the same about the "Saban didn't know... " thread.
Hook 'em and beat West Virginia. :hookem2:

Despite the fact that it involved a football player and his actions “on the field” this thread is political in nature so it was moved to West Mall.

Now, to get us all back to a happy place, here’s a Panda enjoying a relaxing bath.

Yes I did. And personally, I couldn't care less if someone else voted or not IF they aren't going around 'protesting" the way things are and don't make even the slightest effort to really make a change by participating.

JustWin, Sorry for the harsh language. I overreacted there. I debated where this thread should have gone and when I saw the Saban thread, figured to put it in the same place. Plus, I should avoid posting on politics when I'm on pain meds after restraining my hamstring tendon yesterday.

One problem with this position is that, while you might not like the candidates for President, there are still alot of downballot races and perhaps some bond or other issues, you do care about, So, when you do something like this, what you are really doing is screwing yourself (and perhaps others you care about). He has the freedom to do that (or not do it as the case may be) but we also have the freedom to point out the problem with his logic and reason.

In addition, the results of this election has convinced me that politics is playing a role in falling NFL ratings. I wasn't so sure in the past but feel more confident in that conclusion now.

The disrespect of the Anthem is the most visible example, but not the only one. Americans dont want politics in their sports. Think about the presidential commercials that aired during football games. Didnt everyone have the same reaction? -"Get that shyte out of here."

It seems like every time you turn on ESPN now, they are interjecting politics. Tim Tebow, Michael Sam, spousal abuse, 2nd Amendment, BlackLivesMatter protests/riots, and so on. It's always something.

I think people (fans/viewers) dont want this. They want sports to be an escape. So the more it gets shoved in their faces by ESPN, sports twitter, and their local fishwrap, the bigger the turn off. And it is not just that politics are brought into their sports, it is also that they are told that if they do not agree with the TV folks, then they are idiots, rednecks, racists, uneducated rubes and so forth.

I think people are sick of it. We saw one form of this reaction help propel Trump to victory. And, IMO, we are seeing a different form of it in declining NFL ratings.

At least he did vote, just not for the POTUS. He did down vote for other republicans. I'd consider that a protest vote of Trump

Dear God! Are you really under the impression that spousal abuse is a POLITICAL matter? Or is's a political matter when it involves athletes? Spousal abuse is about violence, control and fear.

I bet Hillary has abused Bill about political matters many times. How would that be classified?

In this context, yes, it has become extremely politicized

The main idea of my post was to attempt tie the election to declining NFL ratings. I am saying that there is a relationship between the force that propelled Trump to victory and the fact that Americans are turning off the NFL (an idea that seemed crazy for the last 50 years). Here, I attempt to draw a comparison to these unfolding and largely concurrent events in American society.

You had no response to this main theory I floated. None. Zero.

Instead, you responded by picking out a tiny detail to disagree with, from which you then attempt to divert attention away from the main idea onto something else entirely -- in other words, a strawman. This is analogous to the way Democrats attacked Trump. They ignored his ideas (trade, jobs, immigration and so on) and instead attacked him for tangential often superfluous items. For example, instead of dealing with Trump's thoughts on TPP/NAFTA (and other bad trade treaties), the Democrats attacked him over an endorsement by some KKK person. The problem for you is the same it was for them -- it did not work.

I am making the argument that the US media's now constant attempt to turn sports into a political space is also failing.

Again, you have or had no response. Why go off on a tangent and ignore the main idea? Is it because you agree? Is it because you agree but do not want to publicly admit as much? Or, is it because you disagree but are unable to form a coherent counterargument of your own? Are you waiting for a celebrity to address this issue so you will know how to respond? Which is it?

49'ers are 1-10. Why do they even keep this clown when he is spewing his ignorant rhetoric? Is that the best they can do? I guess so.

This moron talked about how great Castro was because of the free health care and education provided to Cubans. Interesting. This idiot does not see the irony that those things are provided to Cubans who do not speak out against the government. Those who do are imprisoned and/or murdered. Talk about oppression. What an ignorant position for this guy to take.

Man, that's sooooo true. I use to watch Sportscenter all the time but I got tired of the PC bias and shtick. I do not believe there is another enterprise that has a worse understanding of its customer base than ESPN.

The guy is p-whipped, plain and simple. All this started with his activist gf. Kap is now the famous mouthpiece for all stances BLM and people should view him that way...

Protests black oppression, praises Castro, quotes Malcolm X and Black Panthers founder, etc. They even have an Islamic style wedding planned.

Everything that guy wears, says, or does is 100% in line with the publicized stances of BLM. It's no coincidence his chic was blasting all this stuff before him.

Some guys are just too weak in the mind and pants to stay true to themselves when the vag gatekeeper runs them over.

It's well documented he was raised in a loving, caring, entitled lifestyle by a white couple. Pretty sad he spit in their face so hard that his Mom publicly shames him.

Guys who betray others close to them and themselves for trim are pathetic. :puke:
