Will Herman: Ditch the metallic helmet longhorn? Go back to the DKR version of Burnt Orange (i.e. ditch the Nike pumpkin color)? Let Nike go berserk with multiple uniforms like he did at Cougar High?
He better not go mess with this uni's. If he fixes the logo and the color that would be nice. We have sucked ever since we had the metallic logo. It adds nothing. (And in the design world, if it adds nothing, its actually taking away. )
I gotta trust he knows not to mess with the uni's but I'm starting to fear I'm putting too much trust in him.
I personally think the metallic logo looks much better, but I certainly hope and believe that Coach Herman has a lot more pressing issues to worry about than a helmet sticker.
how in the world would Texas multimillion dollar brand allow a ball coach to decide that stuff? that's crazy.
I think I would cry tears of joy if whomever had the power to go back to burnt orange including decal pulled it off. Please no clown outfits, if I was a kid and the Division I level athlete (neither one of which are accurate ) I would never play for Maryland or Boise just because of the bits they continue to do. Once you go to Metallic you never go back
All that was needed to complete the metallic helmets were spinners over the ear holes. I thought it was the ultimate embarrassment until I saw how the team played in them. We should have stripped them off the helmets and had a bonfire of our own.
Somehow i read "pasties" and i was confused for a sec. Obviously yours makes much more sense. Maybe it was your use of the word "stripped" in the 3rd sentence?
The metallic longhorns look yellow when the light shines on them. Why do people want yellow longhorns on our helmets? Go back to the proper logo and burnt orange.
While we are on the subject, all the uniform combinations by other schools seems gimmicky to me. How many of the teams that trot out new uniforms each week have done any real winning lately?? Better yet, let's look at the last 10 National Champions: 2006 Florida 2007 LSU 2008 Florida 2009 Alabama 2010 Auburn 2011 Alabama 2012 Alabama 2013 Florida State 2014 Ohio State 2015 Alabama Not much in the way of neon jerseys, shiny helmets, or ridiculous glow in the dark gear worn during the day. Kids will pick winning over "cool" uniforms.
Joe, That should be very interesting with Kevin Plank coming to town, since his last visit was cancelled before he made his presentation. Can't believe we are scheduled to play in that ghetto in two years.
Was thinking about this, myself.. Not that the two are related at all, but if you had to pick one, would you take: Alternative unis/helmets and winning a MNC, or going with our normal look Coach Royal's "work clothes" and go 7-5 or 8-4 every year?? Just a hypothetical.. As a student equipment manager when we went to the black shoes in the 91 Cotton Bowl vs Miami, I'd say go back to the old school longhorns with the numbers above them and the tearaway jerseys..
I thought the consensus was that the metallic helmet sticker was the reason we have not performed well. Switching back would immediately return us to perform at championship level.
Mc. If I want to see clowns, I'll go to the circus. Any kid that chooses a school because of "showy" uniforms. isn't smart enough to make his grades, much less have the character and class to represent The University of Texas with dignity.
Oh, I'm with ya.. My favorite uni is obviously Texas, followed by Alabama, and Penn St.. More old school, the better..
Didn't Ohio state, often included in the list of elite and traditioned programs who wouldn't mess with traditional uniforms, show black helmets in the um game?
Yes, flat black or a very dark gray.. They have also had a wider red stripe on the helmet.. All this since Urban Meyer took over..
Ohio State has played other games with throwback unis, which are reasonably hideous, but certainly not shiny or showy.
He is also from the Mack Brown "leave the uniforms alone" tree so let's hope the Brown tree prevails over the Urban tree.
But UH has worn three different helmets this year, and a "third kit" as we soccer coaches like to say.. The "all black" vs Louisville..
Viper, How can you call it a "ghetto"? Granted, Exposition and Figueroa is not exactly Preston Hollow, and USC is the only campus I have ever visited where the football dorm has burglar bars, but isn't "ghetto" a little harsh. I would appreciate your opinion on a longtime debate. Do you think the entrance onto the 110 at Exposition is for quick retreat from drivebys or quick approach to retaliation?
