UT audit finds Longhorns staff used prime seats to play favorites, help ticket brokers
    STORY HIGHLIGHTS

    • Audit says some allegations were referred to police and to the Travis County district attorney, but no charges were pursued.
    • Auditors discovered that employees had “regular email communications” with those who had known ties to the secondary ticket market.
    • UT athletics officials say they have made sweeping internal changes as a result of the ticket investigation.
University of Texas athletics employees systematically abused their access to Longhorns football tickets for years, resulting in preferential treatment for favored donors, secret arrangements with ticket brokers and untold financial losses for the university, an audit obtained by the American-Statesman reveals.

Add the Randa Ryan audit problems, and it makes for a sad story about things going on in the athletics complex. Too much money floating around...

Our employees are out of control so lets screw the long time season ticket holders who had nothing to do with it. Yeah that sounds about right.

What has Perrin done at all to undo or oppose anything Patterson did in regards to season ticket holders? He basically stamped his approval on all of Patterson's previous increases and restrictive policies going forward.

Does freezing ticket prices please anyone? Of course he isn't raising prices after another losing season. Half the stadium would be empty next year. He had no choice but to not raise prices. But he did have a choice to reduce, toss the parking charge, or throw out the "no resale" policy. He did none of that.

He certainly hasn't undone a single thing SP did that infuriated fans to begin with. He also stamped his approval going forward with Strong just like SP. The only difference in the AD now is the guy smiles and is nice to fans. We still live under SP rules even after his firing.

I sent an e-mail to Texas Athletics telling them that it is an insult to LHF donors to ban resales by donors that pay full face value for their tickets because the Athletics staff engaged in malfeasance.

Bellmont just does not get it. And the seats will be paid for - but empty - again next year on Senior day.

So far he has ridden his wave of popularity as "the guy who came in to replace Patterson" and so far as I can tell hasn't actually improved a single thing. Has he even lifted a finger to try (other than pure-PR moves, smooching of arses, smiling at the cameras, etc)?

I am with Stat. I cheered when SP got fired ... But what has Perrin done to change anything ... has the wickline case settled yet?

    B,
Maybe you don't think he has impacted your wallet in a positive way, but consider this.
Do you give Perrin credit for closing the $250 million contract with Nike?
Does he get credit for rehiring SID John Bianco?
How about closing the OC hire deal (regardless of who made the mess)?
And don't sell short the glad handing to keep lettermen engaged after SP.

His glad hand is still in my wallet.
    He did not fire Strong.
He did not lower ticket prices for an inferior product.
He has not returned the foundation parking perk.
He has not changed the resale policy.
He has not reached out to long term season ticket holders in any meaningful way for retention or tried to create a policy to bring back season ticket holders that have left in the last two years.

He has pushed renewal dates earlier.
He has embarrassed himself in the OC hiring debacle.
    He has smiled a lot.
He has shook a lot of hands and thrown up hook ems.
He has apparently accepted football mediocrity at Texas.
He has enjoyed the notoriety like Jar Jar Binks.

JW, good point on Bianco. That was a good move to correct the SP screw up. I forgot that one

The other things are his job minimums and are expected when being paid 750,000 a year

Mike closed the deal with Bianco, and I'll give him credit for calling the man that did get Bianco back before Mike ever took the job. That was a top priority of the administration when they started making changes.

    Mike needs to:

Get rid of resale policy, price tickets according to quality of product, remove parking fees, push back the date for renewal, get rid of the cheeseball and bimbo sideline reporters on the jumbotron, change the gameday atmosphere back to TEXAS and not some AA minor league baseball team in Podunk, Indiana. Then it's time to get familiar with the 713 and 919 area codes.

The ability to hire an assistant coach doesn't really say anything about him good or bad.

^ I second Stat but will add that we looked like fools going up to tulsa to beg a coach there to come here so I am not sure why anyone would want credit for that.

Correct. But he played a role in the hire. The president and AD were being blasted here for not actively supporting the coach. After the first candidate turned Texas down, not getting that hire done would have been another disaster for the program, not just the coach or the administration. Perrin has taken a position of support for the coach. He followed through.
We go to Tulsa to hire an OC to keep from looking further like fools after our first choice turned us down. With leaked contract offer to the first guy, the 2nd guy had all the leverage to dictate salary length of contract and guarantees - guarantees only AD and president could make.
But we got what we wanted and I expect we will support him 100%, win or draw.

WRT season tickets ... anyone else looking at a "change of guard" in family tickets?

As I understand it now ... once the holder "passes," those seats go back to the general disbursement till.

I think that's poor. The rights to the tickets should be transferrable like bequeathing the house ... at least to family members of equal/greater UT status.

    ShAArk,

Unless they change it or have changed it, the tickets are only transferable to the surviving spouse. The school gets reports back from Social Security to find out if someone is dead. Voice of experience.

Sorry to hear your experience, Sabre! As I've already posted, I think it's ridiculous ... it's pattersonesque ... to take from the families the RIGHTS to purchase those seats.

but, that's probably what is going to happen. sigh.

The season ticket account is now (recently has become) potentially transferrable ... an application must be obtained from the account holder. The application will be reviewed by the AD, who has retaken control of the distribution from the 3rd party Patterson had hired.

Bequeathing to "friends" is unlikely, but spouses and children/grandchildren are probably approved.

So, hat tip to Perrin for making this improvement. Keeping the family tradition alive should be a significant consideration even if they might indeed be able to "get more" for those 4 seats from another.

I can't help but wonder if the timing of the HC status had anything to do with this.

Can you provide a link or reference?
I remember that the policy for transfer required the family member to pay the "market value donation level".
This allows you to keep the same seats, but give up the "grandfathered" donation level.
Texas Athletics will still "get more" for the seats after the transfer.

I will say, I was surprised at the "market rate" for the seats we've had all these years.

Must have been set after beating oU last year or ND this year.

But if you're out of town for a certain game, you still can't officially give or sell the tickets to that particular game.

    Not entirely true.

season ticket holders who pay discounted prices may not sell their tickets on the secondary market.
You can "give" your ticket to anyone. You cannot "by policy" sell it 'on the secondary market.'
In reality, grandfathered tickets are sold on Craigslist and many other online sites. This includes Horn Fan Swap Meet forum. Just don't try to sell them on StubHub.

I questioned the personal account rep that was assigned to me about the resale policy as I did not want UT selling discounted tickets (less in value than I paid) in my section unless they were going to give me a refund for the same amount. I was assured that would not happen and if unsold season tickets were sold by UT for a single game in my section , they would be sold at the same cost of a season ticket holder. We calculated that to be between 165-175 per ticket. I asked the people sitting in the seats in front of me at the Notre Dame game what they paid and was told UT sold the tickets at 178.00 a seat.

Not so at the TCU game, UT undersold the tickets at 105.00 in my section. I am waiting on my refund.
