Nothing wrong with alternate unis. Alabama is the only one on that list of national champs who hasn't tinkered with anything. I don't think we need to go all Oregon and have a new combination for every game, but strolling out in a third jersey (like the 1969 unis and the number on the helmets) every once in a while isn't the worst. Plus, all the high schools already do alternate jerseys, so no harm.

I recall a nationwide poll (maybe SI?) that was linked on HF several years ago that listed both the Stormtrooper uni and the non-metallic helmet in the top 5 favorites. Also at the top were Bama and State Pen unis. Granted, that was pre Duck and Terrapin clown suits, but it showed that the basic no frill work clothes were/are timeless. Don't mess with them.

I'm sure the hipsters of today wouldn't like them but I wouldn't mind the old khaki pants with the burnt orange top like we had during DKR days. I think burnt orange and khaki look good.

It would be the worst since it would be halloween/oklahoma state horribleness like those practice jerseys from a few years ago. Our colors are burnt orange, white and gray. Yet they gave us black okie state jerseys. A&M's colors are maroon, white and gray and they wore all black uniforms with a T a few years ago. A lot of aggies liked it and I could not figure out why they liked looking like Texas Tech a rival. I dont want halloween jerseys that make us look like another school. Our uniforms are part of our identity and brand that help us generate the most revenue. Why mess with success? Let the lessers schools fighting for the market try BS uniforms. We dont need to as we already have the best.

When anyone turns the TV on in America and see us, they know the Longhorns are playing. With all these alternates with wrong school colors, its takes a minute to figure out which teams are playing half the time.

On another note, I always liked the Tech all black jerseys from the early 2000s and always thought it was a shame they either do not wear them, mess them up with red stripes or wear those hank hill propane jerseys

    x,

Little tidbit about Colorado's helmet. Colorado is a very poor school, as evidenced by their three year attempt to raise $300,000 for a practice bubble. When they hired Chuck Fairbanks as HC, they offered him an exhorbadent salary plus money to improve facilities. First thing he did was spend $50,000 to redo his office. If you've been to that section of Folsom, particularly back then, it was/is an ugly warehouse looking place. People around CU and in the state were appalled. Next, Fairbanks spent $100,000 engaging a firm to create a new logo for the buffs. Prior to the big unveiling, the Denver Post got a copy and did a survey asking people to identify "what is this". Something like 90+% of the hundreds responding thought it was a pig.

    Dave,

Come on; stay in DC, drive out scenic New York Ave on the way to College Puke. It's an adventure in cultural diversity. Warning, however, be sure and take the insurance on your rent car to cover the costs of the scratches on the car from the hookers, pimps, "street vendors, and drug dealers trying to get into the car with you, not to mention the cost of repairing the bullet holes. :beertoast:

You like winning or you like uniforms.????..If these crazy kids these days get pumped about silly uniforms then we have to change in order to reruit the guys we need to win. I hate the uniforms these days, but you gotta do what you gotta do if you want championships. Why not wear some crap when we are only on LHN against Kansas or UTEP etc ???? Very few people would see us anyway. What harm would it be ?

^ Bama does not need to change uniforms to recruit. Mack Brown and Charlie Strong did not need to change uniforms to recruit.

Your belief that uniforms need to be changed for recruiting is greatly mistaken.

"You have to change uniforms to recruit" is an argument I see on multiple message boards of multiple teams that is completely baseless yet gets repeated a lot.

Does anyone think that when it comes time for these kids and their parents to pick a school where they will get an education and a chance at making the NFL that having an alternate uniform really matters?

"The University of Texas can give me a world class education in a cool city and is an elite program that produces many NFL players and wins big games.... but I am going to Texas Tech because I like the stripes on their alternate uniforms" - said no one ever.

Exactly what design do you want the "Chico's Bail Bonds" print to be?

Next we'll be hearing that taking convicts worked for Meyer at Florida & Ohio State, the Coral Gables convicts, Nebraska, State Penn, Baylor, FSU, among others, so sign up for your official "Longhorn Foundation Bail Bonds Win Championships Donation" today.

I've said multiple times, any kid picking a school because of clown costumes is too damn done to get in Texas much less make his grades.

Well, that settles it then, if high schools do it, The University of Texas at Austin should, then, by golly.

Many schools have outlandish, PT Barnum & Bailey type, the circus has come to town, looking unis. Don't like the all gray or all black, especially when those aren't part of the schools colors. Nor camo unis. Hello!! I can still see you...the damn camo isn't working!!! This is college football, not clown college.

Personally, I like the metallic logo. If they decide to return to a single color one, that’s fine – just as long as they don’t go back to the BROWN. I never understood why they would have a helmet logo that wasn’t burnt orange, or at least close to the same color as their uniforms.

One vote for the 1983 uniforms. I will smile every time the defense takes the field in those unis. Get rid of the metallic horn decals and no gimmicky uniforms. Geez, I am waiting on someone to suggest we go Temple High style with two tone pants.

Those pants should have been trademarked by Bob McQueen. Only one team should ever be allowed to wear those.

Of course, I'm sure those jackoffs at Adidas can find something politically incorrect about them and offer to "correct" the error of Temple's ways.
