Yeah, 6-6 and another crappy bowl loss. Sub 500. He recruited lots of talent but was clueless how to win with it.

If Herman gets 10 wins in '17, it will be because of correct coaching, not because of Strongs methods....which sucked. If Chuck took over Alabama today with his staff, he'd find a way to lose 7 games.

Gary Patterson is a good coach. TCU is not a program that can reload every year. Patterson did have one 4 year run in a lesser conference, but he will have rebuilding years. Sadly, Strong was not poised in year 3 to take advantage of a TCU down year and a down Big 12. All the stars with our schedule aligned and Strong could not take advantage in year 3. That is why he is no longer the coach. Patterson will be back and I will be shocked if he does not win at least one more Big 12 title.

Great coaches can out-coach down conferences. Bob Stoops had a down OU team, but he sure as hell was not going to lose a game in a down Big 12 conference and coached his team to 9-0 in Big 12 play.

I hope Herman is our guy that can out-coach the rest of the conference.

    What? ?
Did he already leave South Florida? And next you'll tell me he went to UCF to make less money, just to make Texas pay more of the buyout.

I'm assuming you mean in 2010 - I was going to argue about him not having any head coaching experience but they hired a different guy w/ no HC experience, also a DC, in Muschamp.

That cake he baked taste like sh@@. It was full of exlax, jelly beans, and fail. And made everyone feel like crap when they ate it. Charlie-if your 4 stars play like 2 stars you really, really suck as a coach.

Just goes to show how really clueless he was.

With all due respect to Darrell Royal, I think that proves the point I was making. DKR had the best tailback in college football and insisted on cramming him into an offensive system that was out of date. There were clearly a lot of issues with ethics in the league that were contributing, and in no way am I saying that DKR's coaching should be compared to Strong's... but I don't see that team going 11-1 under DKR if he stayed another year.

I wish Charlie Strong well and hope he competes better based on what he's learned at Texas. But I think we win a lot more games with Tom Herman as coach. The same players who are confident and well prepared for a contest are going to do better than players who are ill-prepared. I think Charlie left some talent here ... but everybody in the Big 12 has some athletes.

Man, we are certainly down right now but with things looking up in hiring Herman. Can you imagine being a "fan" of a UCF who has hired a coach who went 16-21(I think) at his last position? Wow.

I hope Charlie left us with a lot of good talent. Sometimes I wonder how good they really are. If the kids are that skilled then that just continues to confirm what a bad "coach" he was to these guys. It's pretty hard not to recruit well at Texas. It's the coaches and schemes that put us above that mediocrity. Texas should win 5-6 games alone on talent. A good coach wins 3-5 more. A bad coach shows up. That's what we had. Nice man I give him that.

As I recall, many of us including me were screaming for DKR to put Earl in the "I" with a fullback. Akers did if I am not mistaken and the rest is history. That's also what Bum ran at Houston I believe.

I was at the 1976 tie game. Ivy Suber fumble... Erxleben's fgs ....
God knew, he reached down and flicked that OU extra point away.

    Ivan,

Ernest Lee, Earl's HS teammate from Tyler, lined up over the center, and according to him looked up and said, "sucker, you're gonna snap that ball clean over his head". Sure enough the ball landed close to the 20.

I thinks there's a lot of talent on the team. The prior regime just didn't develop them and lacked play calling skills.

He has to be very bitter about his firing but i don't how he could be when the results aren't there? geez, Charlie Strong was the guy I wanted and now he just sounds like a POS for trying to take credit for ANY ******* success next year of Tom Hermans. He better close his damn mouth and focus on that job down there in South Florida because what I see is that cake is also baked down there too!!! and so if he dont win 10 games next year, is it Taggarts fault then? geez I really thought Charlie was more mature then that.......guess I was wrong.
