Is this such an unremarkable commitment? He committed yesterday, and not a single mention here. I don't follow recruiting...just saw his commitment on a Facebook post
There's no such thing as an unremarkable committment to UT ... at least in the initial stages. Of course, maybe I was the only one to see the (unrealized) potential in Sneezy Beltran.
I can remember several "unremarkable commitments" over the years. Just two examples: 1) DB from San Antonio with few offers. We held a few offers for players lost on signing date (or later). Akers got convinced to "waste" one on a that kid, John Hagy. 2) Perhaps the biggest was a kid that NO ONE recruited because of issues in HS. Again, there were a couple of scholarships left over, and our assistant coach was all over Akers about the potential in this kid. VY could take over games, bt I have never seen a player dominate the way Kenneth Sims dominated games.
You could add D'onta Foreman to that list also. He turned out pretty well for a 3 star prospect. Yes I misspelled his name, but too lazy to look it up.
Then there are the "remarkable commitments" that turned out to be big disappointments. I believe that both Johnathan Gray & Malcolm Brown fit into that category and more surprising is the fact that they are running backs. How many "can't miss" 5 star RBs miss? D’Onta Foreman is a fascinating aberration that may be studied in the future. Just imagine if he had been the feature back (as he should have been) in his sophomore year.
My thoughts on Marqez Bimage are that you would not want to run into this guy in a dark alley. And he will become a star under Herman.
When I think of this I think of Ricky playing fullback his freshman year. Remember when we had a fullback? That's even more rare than Texas having a tight end. It's like seeing a corpse flower bloom or observing Halley's Comet.
