10 players in the rotation once Jada gets back to where she was before sitting out at least two games, I am guessing due to illness, although nothing was ever said. Could have been anything.

In games where the team is up by 20+ points, those bench players normally not in the rotation have been given playing time which they need to be able to contribute should foul trouble/injury dictate they go in. All together at the same time, though, they are not as crisp as the core rotation, certainly not like the starting five. For someone like Olamide who continues to look better with the experience she gets in blowouts, playing time in games is invaluable. Those six minutes are twice what she averages in the few conference games she gets into and allowed her to get into a rhythm. She had three rebs, one steal and looked more comfortable on the floor than I recall seeing before.

Joyner should get the FOW from the Big12 conference again for this weeks games. Does anyone know who votes? Seems like the voters have had green and gold in their votes this whole conference season. Ariel should've had it for her 23 pt. performance, Kelsey should've had it for breaking a UT record with 11-11 FG percentage.

“Yeah, they are (better than when we saw them in Austin),” Whitaker said. “They’ve continued to get better. Kudos to them and the work they’ve put in, the understanding of their roles and how they’ve played together.”

Great game ladies! I hope to be able to say that about the men someday. This game really scared me playing in Lubbock in a grocery store. Although apparently it was Tech that couldn't find the Wheaties in their own building.

I didn't watch it because I wasn't going to pay Tech for something that should be free, but Sanders was supposed to be the difference maker and looking at the stats she was completely shut down. Caldwell shut down pretty good too. The most impressive stat to me though was only 9 turnovers, especially with all the minutes the backups got. This is real progress from the games we averaged nearly 20 a game and had 31 against Kansas.

Keep working hard and keep improving ladies! It's a time when you have a tendency to slack off, but it's actually the time you have work the hardest to improve, both mentally and physically.

Is it likely that Joyner will get Big 12 FOY? From a national perspective, is she in the running for National FOY? I don't follow teams beyond the B12 very closely, so other than Joyner Holmes, I'm not aware of the Freshman that are making an impact nationally.

I thought Whitaker had some really good insight as to what other coaches see from Texas. Not just some standard answers. You can read them on the link Mooo sent. See "quotes" to read em.

Nothing is free. I am surprised that WVU does not charge for the online games. It's a stream of revenue that every college, especially Texas, has learned to use.

What I liked was the one day option, non automatic renewable option. You used to have to pay for a month and then have to go back and cancel after the game. Plus, it automatically renewed. Forget to cancel and you end up paying extra.

pretty standard fare for a quick, post game story. We are lucky sometimes to get as much from the AAS.

the more I look at that boxscore, the more I am impressed. We had nine players with at least 11 minutes. They all scored at least four points. Brooke was the only player to play 30 minutes. All other starters were in the mid 20s.

This is why I dropped the AAS a few years back. They got so lazy or apathetic about the women's games that they bought articles from the Lubbock local paper detailing games played between UT and TTU. The articles read kinda tilted towards TTU, even when Texas won, until I looked at the byline and realized the writer was from the Lubbock Avalanche Journal. AAS lost my respect that season and then I canceled my subscription.

You may be missing my point(s). To state that Tech managed to keep it close in the first half was completely incorrect. And, even though it's a Tech site, they failed to mention a single Texas player's name and their production. TexasSports.com has never done that to the opponent.

Good questions. I know College Sports Madness named Joyner their preseason FOY. I haven't read a whole lot about other freshmen having spectacular seasons so far. But, like you, I don't pay a lot of attention to other teams outside the Big 12 either.

That was the only mention of a Tech player in the texassports.com post game story. And, by their (Tech) standards, maybe 16 pts is keeping it close.

As I mentioned, I don't find it much different from a lot of other post game stories put out right after the game. If they had won, I will bet there would be more detail, not necessary about the opponent either. The texassports.com story was all about Texas, not Tech. Again, the slant there was not unexpected given they were talking about a Texas team on a big winning streak.

I suspect that a lot of the writers assigned to do these stories do not count WBB as their primary interest in sports.

We are definitely seeing improvement in many areas. That's what we need. Now, we have to show consistency in those improving areas (turnovers, defense, rebounding). Still need to see improvement in free throw shooting.

Also, just read today that Sabrina Ionescu has 3 triple doubles for Oregon.

We need to be shooting a higher percentage at the FT line. I think this weakness is the most correctable on the team. I say that because we rarely miss both free throws but miss a lot of first ones. The second one is going in so pure. I think we just need to take our time. It's not like we're a bunch of Shaqs out there that can't hit the broadside of the barn.

This is one of my biggest concerns with this team.

Isn't that the truth? While it depends on who is getting to the FT line, I find it hard to understand why I can practically guarantee that certain players will only make one of two FTs. Good thing CWBB is now shooting two FTs instead of a one and one. We can get at least one point from going to the FT line.

The free throw issue is a mystery. It seems like through the program's history, it's always been that way. (Maybe not, but I don't want to go back and search the archives.) I remember Jody saying one time, "We've tried talking about it. We've tried not talking about it. We've tried everything we can think of." It seems like, with a sports psychologist and a shooting coach, this should be changeable. I assume we have a shooting coach? I heard in the Spurs-Cavs game about how much the shooting coach had helped some player (can't remember which one). And then the existential questions --- do you mess with someone's shooting stroke or does that risk making things even worse? Why do teams like Iowa State have a great free-throw shooting percentage year in year out? Beats me.

    It was probably Kawhi Leonard.

Before he joined the Spurs, Leonard was only known for his defense. Once the franchise hooked him up with a shooting coach who worked with him to change his release and stroke, he became a MVP-caliber player with range.

I hope a shooting coach is assigned to Holmes.
Not because she has a bad jumpshot, but because she has the potential to have a great one.

She is athletic and can shoot over anyone. She also releases at the top of her jump.
It is just confidence and maybe a technical detail here and there that prevents stroke from being consistent.
