Texas Last year, the Longhorns closed with a wild flourish on National Signing Day to finish with the No. 3 class in the nation. Texas could use a similarly exceptional homestretch this year, as its current class ranks No. 38. Expecting a repeat is unlikely, though, as Tom Herman had a shorter timeframe to build relationships with recruits after taking over for Charlie Strong in late November. A better benchmark may be Strong’s first class in 2014, which finished No. 15. So how could Texas climb? The Longhorns have an outside shot at five-star Marvin Wilson, the No. 10 overall recruit in the class. They are a leading candidate for five-star defensive end K’Lavon Chaisson. Texas is also chasing four-stars Levi Jones, Chevin Calloway and Stephan Zabie. The biggest concerns for Texas center on programs outside the Lone Star State. Oklahoma is not just compiling the best class in the Big 12, but it’s doing so by a wide margin. The Sooners’ haul ranks No. 5 in the nation, 33 spots ahead of the Longhorns and the only Big 12 class in the top 30. The other program of concern is Ohio State. While Urban Meyer’s achievements as a recruiter are no surprise, he’s been particularly successful in Texas this year, landing two of the state’s six five-star recruits and three of the top 10 high school prospects in addition to five-star juco recruit Kendall Sheffield. http://www.si.com/college-football/2017/01/20/recruiting-teams-improve-national-signing-day
Looking at the average star scores on Rivals we could move up to about 15 but would need to get five commits from mostly four star players. I am assuming that we will only be taking 20 or less.
This is no different than the situation Mack took over and certainly not unexpected given the situation. Mack's 1st class was borderline top 20, he won on the field and his 2nd class was #1. TH wins 8-9 games next year his 2nd class will be top 10, maybe top 5. He just has to win on the field to get the momentum train rolling in the right direction.
Any details on where we stand with Wilson now? This would be a huge pick up but I don’t know what our chances are at this point.
The most notable difference was that Ricky Williams returned for his senior year but D'Onta Foreman left to go pro.
I agree with this. We just need a class that is dedicated to winning and getting Texas back on the map. Here are the '98 recruits: Jermaine Anderson, DE Texas City Beau Baker, OL Clear Lake Ahmad Brooks, DB Abilene Adam Dunn, QB New Caney Montrell Flowers, WR Dallas Skyline Ervis Hill, DB Texas City Victor Ike, RB Austin Bowie Lee Jackson, DB Longview Tyrone Jones, LB Texas City Jamal Joyner, DB Dallas Carter Antwan Kirk-Hughes OT Waxahachie Miguel McKay, LB Lufkin Everick Rawls, LB Texas City Chris Robertson, RB Denison Beau Trahan, QB Bay City Marcus Wilkins, LB Round Rock Westwood Mike Williams, OT The Colony Jon Wyndham, DB Manor
We've been out of the picture for Wilson for weeks. I'm surprised 247 has it that high. From what information I can get for free it's pretty much down to LSU and Ohio State with FSU on the outside looking in.
