I have a bottle of 1984 Silver Oak that I have been saving for a special occasion, and this is pretty damn special.
He is an ignoramus - the Dan Rather of sports broadcasting. Since listening to him makes me borderline homicidal, it is a good thing he is gone.
No more: Ladies & Gentlemen, your looking live at DKR Texas Memorial Stadium FUMBLE! Who's go it!!! It's a footrace! You QB's get all the good looking women... whoa! (Katherine Webb)
The only call I really liked was his calling Ricky's 60 yard record breaking sprint, the "run for the Heisman." Pretty much been downhill since. I also like the black-eye Jimmy the Greek gave him many years back.
Goodbye and good riddance you pompous a$$! Now, be sure to take Herbie, Corso, Costas and the rest of the sec wh0re$ with you.
Musberger called some great moments in Texas football a few that come to mind: The Ricky call referenced above; Roll Left "Gonna throw, wide open Babyyyy"; and The last SWC game with aggy.
he was an old slobberknocker. Good riddance. They say that the Mixon rant had nothing to do with it. But I bet it did. I bet they had enough backlash over that **** to tell him it was time to hang it up.
Somewhere Jenn Sterger is sad https://search.aol.com/aol/video?q=...5DE90B2&s_chn=prt_ticker-test-g&v_t=comsearch
His betting/handicapping network has been in the making for awhile. I said it in the Mixon thread but he is moving to Las Vegas and it will be a 24 hour radio show on Sirius. Its going to do very well. He's working with some pros in that profession.
Thanks for posting that OU video Joe fan. That was a dominant OU team that we kicked the **** out of and physically wore them down; OU quit in the 4th quarter. It was a month after Hurricane Ike hit. When the regular season final BCS rankings were released I was in Las Vegas and there was not a sports book in town that could believe Texas got ****** like we did. We only had 1/2 of bad game that year.
Don't get me wrong, I thought KW was an OMG stunningly beautiful woman, I just thought as an old guy like me, BM didn't handle his reaction very well on national TV....
I've had a microphone shoved in my face a few times and didn't much like what I heard when I listened to the recording. I couldn't do it better than Musburger. I'm no Hollandtex.
In the universe of bad sportscasters, he is nowhere near the bottom. As noted above he called some great Longhorn moments.
He liked to call Major Applewhite "The Major". KW is crazy good-looking, I did not have a problem at all with that one at the time, or now.
I didn't have that much of an issue. I definitely heard worse. He had a great broadcasting voice, and he had a flair for storytelling, even if he didn't always get the story right. As someone said, when you're talking for three hours straight, you're gonna say something stupid at some point. So you have to take it with at least a little grain of salt.
Anyone who get's a ticket for public consumption for drinking a Milwaukee's Best out of the can in the back seat on the way back to the airport after a broadcast is okay by me.
Musburger is an SEC homer? Well, I disagree. I have never understood the vitriol on this board to Musburger. He is very positive to Texas and it has been pointed out that he was in on some great calls and games for Texas. He seems to love Austin and the whole scene and that of the Cotton Bowl game with ou. I just don't get the overall hate for years for the way he has called games. Now, if some of you know him personally and can speak to why he should not be liked, I am all ears. Otherwise, give it a rest.
