Exactly. Texas hasn't been able to sell a winning, factually improving product since 2012. Only so much persuasion can take place without any verifiable proof.
Elite coaches (well proven winners on the big stage) can step in a new program and immediately close top talent off verbal promises of winning.
Talented, rising coaches haven't built the luxury to sell most elite recruits on blind trust.
Top talent wants to win and develop their skills under proven winners. Texas hasn't won since 2013. We're 46-42 over the last 7 seasons.
Not to mention we haven't been nationally relevant since 2009. These recruits were around 11 years old back when Texas was respected on the field. Their middle and high school football years (living and breathing the game) saw Texas wallow in mediocrity.
Most highly rated recruits have dreams of playing in the NFL and even expect to.
Betting their football future on a mediocre product off bold promises of resurrection is not attractive compared to what other top program's can factually offer.
Win 8 or 9 games next year and we'll start cleaning up. No question.
