Texas vs Rice

Nice start to the year taking 2 of 3 vs. a top 25 Rice team.....actually its nice just winning a series.

 

Got one more to go at Noon. If we take 3 of 4 from #25 Rice I'd imagine we make our debut in the rankings next week.

Already enjoying the grit and energy of this team.

 

Calling NB....have you retired?!?

 

Defense and pitching look first rate.

That throw to home and catch and block/tag out yesterday was a thing of beauty.

Oh, b/t/w, what are the two crossed flags on one side of Graham's cap? One looks like the Cuban flag?

He just splained Rice's November game in Cuva.

 

A split......Aside from the 6th inning today, Texas looked good. Pitching, hitting, defense was looking up. 33 out of 34 innings looking like a quality D1 baseball team......I'll take it for now.

 

Oops, for some reason I thought they moved today to yesterday. So they lose 7-1 and split the series.

 

I was at the DH on Sat. Good crowd for the early game. I thought we looked a bit sloppy to start the first game, had a couple of guys we could have thrown out on the bases if for better throws. However, as the 1st game wore on, we seemed to pull it together and then it was Rice that was making mistakes in the 2nd game. The play at the plate to end the 1st game was a big boost. Yesterday I thought we looked kinda unmotivated, like taking 2 was good enough. Love David Hamilton, tho, kid can play ball.

 

Unfortunately NBHorn7 probably will not return for his legendary HF online play-by-play of Horn games.

 

It was more to do with running into a very good pitcher who was ON....and we ran out of pitching.

 

Well I has a sad if Conner Mays is now in the "running out of pitching" category. Our only run being a solo homer does not fit that meme, tho.

 

We gave up 3,4,1, and 7 runs in that order.....Any way you want to cut it......We ran out of pitching.

 

First series so tap the brakes a little. Rice was loaded with upperclassmen; Texas loaded with freshmen. All in all a reasonable showing.

 

We did have a lot of young'uns playing, 3 FS started I believe.

I am not disagreeing about the running out of pitching, I am just sad that Conner Mays is not getting off to a better start after last season's woes.
