"Erasing national borders... undermines democracy and trades away prosperity." Apparently the line to get in to see Trump was ~ a mile long
Imagine hating America and Americans as much as this HuffPo tweeter This is so pathetic I fear I may be beginning to feel sorry for lefties This is the guy that showed up at 4am
I understand the sentiment but our legal immigration flow is roughly 1.2 million a year. And many of the LEGAL variety come here as a family unit, meaning they aren't going to be the chain citizenship issue that so many of the illegal variety are. The 40 million + 40 million you speak of, is a result of illegal immigration. I'm all for stopping that as much as legislatively, economically and physically possible. I'm also for changing the proportion of LEGAL immigration slots that we hold open. From what I can tell, roughly 1/3 of the slots go to "family" considerations. I think that portion should be downsized and priority should be given to economic/skilled employess that may actually add to the system immediately. My other concern is that going after immigration on every front (refugees, legal and illegal immigration) really does start to alienate everyone. If you leave a relatively robust LEGAL option then you can rightly argue that you aren't against immigrants but only ILLEGAL and/or unsafe immigration practices. Heck POTUS is already starting to backpedal on DACA. I'm starting to think we've got another GOP in the WH that's going to backpedal on everything but his pro-business tax cuts and deregulation.
Uh...1 million legal immigrants per year for 40 years is 40 million. Only 10 million illegals. I stand by my original post.
We haven't been at 1MM for 40 years, however...you might have a point. I'd advocated before that we should base our annual LEGAL immigration on employment statistics and/or wage growth, but perhaps another measure should be the overall percentage of first gen immigrants in our country. I would argue that a substantial portion of the first generation immigrants (even if they are now in LEGAL status), started out as illegal immigrants and/or are the result of illegal parents that now have a legal offspring and curtailing illegal immigration would resolve most of our issues. However, I would agree that the proportion of immigrants (legal or not) is too high.
If immigrants were not allowed to vote for 20 years, the left would drop them as a constituency tomorrow.
It gets increasingly difficult to have a debate with you when you never bring your own numbers or facts to the conversation. Here is an article that claims each trip costs "$3M or more". The $97M was a reference to an article that Joe Fan posted previously which I believe was ultimately sourced from Judicial Watch. If you follow the WaPo and Politico links, they say that the $3M estimate is based on costs gleaned from a similar trip that Obama took. That's pure partisan bias. Obama's golf outings were used by his critics to demonstrate that he was lazy. Now that Trump's golfing trips exceed his predecessor the argument shifts. Oh, and yes Obama did have 3 outings with world leaders and had the much publicized golf outing with John Boehner.
NBC anchor Katy Tur either doesnt know what Obama said to the Russians in 2012, or is lying about it Either way, not a good look. And, of course, she ends the conversation there
TRUMP: "look at what's happening in Sweden" MEDIA: "NOTHING IS HAPPENING IN SWEDEN! Next... Rioting Breaks Out In Sweden https://www.rt.com/news/378071-stockholm-riots-police-shots/
Cut her some slack. Her "dad" is Zoey Tur, and she dated Keith Olbermann for a while. No doubt she's screwed up.
Yeah, "dad" becoming "mom" would be enough to screw anyone up. Katy Tur doesn't come across as smart enough to remember the incident yet feign ignorance.
Uh...those items are not mutually exclusive. Both can be true. As an aside, have you been watching the full blown meltdown by Paul Joseph Watson on Twitter? Twitter caught him posting some fake pictures stolen from a myriad of non-Sweden riots (i.e. Poland 2008) then responds with this: and He's literally reposted the same blog to back up his premise of a rise in Swedish crime 4 times. Between Sweden and his defense of Milo, he's in 100% cardiac arrest mode.

"Poll: Americans overwhelmingly oppose sanctuary cities" 80 percent of voters say local authorities should have to comply with the law by reporting to federal agents the illegal immigrants they come into contact with. A majority — 52 percent — say they support Trump’s two executive orders allowing for the construction of a southern border wall, increasing the number of immigration officers by 10,000 and finding a way to revoke federal funds for sanctuary cities. The crackdown on sanctuary cities is the most popular feature of those actions, followed closely by the directive to increase the border patrol, which is backed by 75 percent of voters. http://thehill.com/homenews/adminis...ricans-overwhelmingly-oppose-sanctuary-cities
This is one of the points I tried to make when trying to talk NeverTrumpers into doing the right thing
"Deconstruction of the administrative state" - I cannot believe we have a WH admin that will even say these words. Pinch me, I must be dreaming!
A new low? Spicer cancelled today's press conference and held a "gaggle" instead. This time they chose to specifically exclude CNN, NYT, LAT, Politico, Buzzfeed and most of the foreign press corps. All the conservative sources were allowed in. This was in response to a report that Priebus called the Deputy Secretary of the FBI McCabe to request a the FBI to weigh in publicly on the Trump Campaign - Russia connection news. Trump didn't call this fake news but lambasted the FBI for the leaks. Here are Brett Baier's thoughts:
One officer being injured during a riot over a drug arrest in Sweden is a news item in the US. I wonder how much attention the Swedish media would pay if, heaven forbid, something like that happened in the US?
Your comment reminds me of something Clayton Williams might have joked about. Sweden should "just relax and enjoy it."
