Excellent point Comrade! It looks like almost ten people were injured! Better to put them under the rule of a government that wistfully yearns for the good old days when 65 million citizens were murdered. They would be much better off.

You need to learn to shut your face when you have no clue about the subject matter. Putin is not Stalin and Russia is not the Communist USSR. Wake up. That world ended 25 years ago.

That's what Obama said before fear mongering about Russia the last few years and even more so today. :smile1: He went soft with Russia and Putin owned his *ss.

"Gov. Romney, I’m glad you recognize al-Qaida is a threat, because a few months ago when you were asked what is the biggest geopolitical group facing America, you said Russia, not al-Qaida,” Obama said. “You said Russia. And the 1980s are now calling to ask for their foreign policy back. Because the Cold War has been over for 20 years."

A reset only works if the guy asking for a neutral starting position will hammer the other if he stabs him in the back. DT is that type of guy, unlike Obama who wilted.

Here's where you (and 95% of the US population) have distorted reality and based your view on a false narrative.

Ask almost anyone why we have poor relations with Russia and they'll say it's because of Russian aggression. That Russia seized Crimea, and supported the evil Assad regime that is committing genocide against his people. These assertions would be comical if not for how serious the situation is.

The truth of the matter is that the US helped orchestrate a coup in Ukraine (Obama fully behind this as we're the neocon run intelligence agencies and brainwashed/controlled US Congress. Crimea, part of Russia going back to the 1700's, resisted the coup backed government and with the help of the Russian military, already legally in the country, ejected Ukraine forces and DEMOCRATICALLY voted to secede and rejoin Russia. What you may not be aware of is that Crimea had requested a vote for secession years before but was denied. The coup in Kiev and subsequent attacks on Russian speaking citizens pushed things over the top.

Since this time, Ukraine has launched attacks against the civilian population in Eastern Ukraine, all with the support of our media and government.

The assault on Syria has been in the planning for years. The Saudis, Israel, and the US hyped up accusations against Assad in order to gain public support, just as was done in Libya. At stake are pipeline access into Europe as well as strategic control of the Middle East vs Iran. The R2P (Responsibility to Protect) is pablum for the stupid masses.

Life in Eastern Ukraine is worse now than it was before the "Russian Volunteers" took over. You know how I know? I have read first hand accounts and view points from people living in Donetsk. It is a complete travesty the things those people are having to go through, and it is the Russian government that has done this to them.

That's a totally false explanation. The Ukraine government has launched attacks against the civilians in Eastern Ukraine, continue to violate the Minsk II agreement, and have waged war "against their own people" (I'm using the same propagandist term the US uses when the shoe is on the other foot). Despite this, Ukraine proper will see its government dissolve before the breakaway Republics in the Southeast do.

The people living in Donetsk and Luhansk today and who went through the Russian take over are giving a false explanation? I have listened to first hand accounts of the people on the street. Guess what? They aren't upset at Ukraine.

Look I understand that the CIA invented fake news in the 90s, but that doesn't mean Russian intelligence hasn't taken good notes.

There was a democratically elected government in the Ukraine. It was overthrown in a coup by thugs. If Russia wants to go to war with undemocratic thugs in a country that has only existed since 1991 and before that was part of Russia, who cares.

If Russia threatens a NATO country, we go to nuclear war. The cold war already proved that will not happen.

If Russia wants to fool around with non nato countries on their own border, so what?

We had a missile crisis when Russia scewed with Cuba near our border. Is Russia now not allowed to interfere when there is a undemocratic coup in a country on their border that was part of Russia for most of their recent history?

There is no reason for the Ukraine to even be in NATO other than former warsaw bloc nations currently in NATO are still angry at Russia and want revenge. The EU is already dealing with Brexit and adding the Ukraine headache would not help.

The Crimean War was stupid in the 1850s and people wanting to repeat the mistakes of the past need to learn from history. Putin is not Hitler (where is his mein kampf about needing living space and taking over the world? That's right, Putin did not write one). The Soviet Union is dead. I agree with Trump that we should be working with Russia to combat Islamic extremism rather than refighting the Crimean War. All you get out of taking Sevastopol is a dead light brigade and a good poem.

Look dude. I know some Ukrainians. As the Maidan uprising was happening, they were telling me what was happening on the ground. Your account of the uprising was given by Russia Today and other Russian affiliated media groups and it was just political cover for violent acts.

If you don't care if the Russians invade Ukraine, I get it. I agree that we should find common ground with Russia against ISIS. I agree that the US shouldn't provoke Russia into violent acts. But your characterization of the Maidan is a false narrative. It was literally fake news. I have read first hand accounts of people in Donetsk saying the same thing.

If the Russians had "invaded" Ukraine, the war would have ended in a week. Russia has supplied the breakaway Republics with weapons and "volunteers" but claiming Ukraine is defending against an invasion is ludicrous. They've continued to commit war crimes against civilians with the consent and support of the United Stated government. The same government that helped ignite a coup.

Nope. I understand Russia's interests and why things have resulted in the way they have. I have read war plans for what it would take to take the rest of Ukraine. Not that the situation couldn't change

Keep repeating lies all you want. I know the truth.

If you don't think the US doesn't have contingency plans for invasions - all over the world- you would be naive. Certainly Russia has a blue prints for invading Ukraine if required. That's very different than policy. Russia's interests have been made very clear by Putin and more recently by Lavrov in Munich. It's the US that does not make its intentions clear and truthful; not only with respect to the world, but also its very own citizens.

Of course. I wasn't criticizing Russia for having war plans. I was saying I understand on a very basic, incomplete level why Russia stopped where they did and what it would take to go further. It isn't as simple as you said, "well if Russia really invaded they would have taken the whole country by now (paraphrasing)".

To amplify on the subject of a Russian invasion of Ukraine, it may happen. Russia will not allow the people in the breakaway Republics to be slaughtered. If Ukraine presses the issue, Russia would be forced to go to Kiev and remove the government. Putin is gambling the Ukraine government will implode of its own accord or be overthrown internally.

And that election was fair and devoid of fraud, right?

So because he did not write a book, he's a great guy?

Since you know who Putin is not, please explain who he is? What are his thoughts on the fall of the Soviet Union? Why did he invade Crimea using men without insignias on their uniforms? How does he treat those that disagree with his views? Who is Sergei Glazyev?

All of those questions can be answered with a little research. Try YouTube and Google for starters. There is an amazing amount of data that you won't see broadcast in MSM. Glazyev is an economist/adviser to Putin who, among other things, wishes to reform the Russian central bank and move away from the Western/IMF dominated system. Thus far Putin has not followed through to his satisfaction.

I haven't read a definition, but it would encompass "The New Silk Road" which is a planned over land trade route from China through the Asian land mass including India, Pakistan, Russia, the countries of the Caucuses, etc. In short, an economic competitor to the present sea-based trade routes governed by the US Navy.

I have heard many on the left say the 2016 US election was unfair and full of fraud due to Russian interference. So do you think that would be a justification for a coup against Trump? I do not. However if you think Putin is Hitler and the left alleges he helped Trump, you are in quite a pickle.

Has Putin engaged in mass genocide?

Is he planning on conquering the world?

Does Russia even have the economic or military might to engage in a world war?

They currently have one aircraft carrier and are 10 years away from another.

How would russia circumvent the nuclear deterrent?

Putin is a bad guy, but he is no Stalin or Hitler. He has no interest in nuclear war.

Crimea has been part of Russia forever and is their key strategic outlet to the Mediterranean. Only an incomptent leader would risk letting that go to the EU or Nato. Have the British given up Gibraltar? Have we given up Puerto Rico?

What did the Crimean War of the 1850s settle?

Russia has historically been invaded. The Swedes in the 1700s, Napolean, Hitler all invaded Russia. They fear invasion from the west. They want something between them and the west. They also dont want to lose key strategic bases just like we would probably go to war if an anti-american group overthrew the government in Panama.

There is a nuclear wall from Estonia to Turkey. If Russia wants Ukraine and Belarus, so what? They are on Russia's border. Is there some sort of magic in the Ukraine or Belarus that would allow Putin to circumvent the nuclear deterrent that the USSR was never able to find?

The point man for Eurasian and Ukrainian policy in the Kremlin is Sergei Glazyev (see: pinko-commie).

He's an economist, that wants to combine radical nationalism with a touch of Bolo (i.e Russian Eurasianism = dictatorship + communism). He was a member of the Communist Party and a Communist deputy in the Russian parliament before cofounding a far-right party called Rodina. In 2005 some of its deputies signed a petition to the Russian prosecutor general asking that all Jewish organizations be banned from Russia.

There has always been a large Jewish population in Russia. In fact, I believe the the largest percentage of Jews in Israel or of Russian heritage. Russia has a history where some of the Jews were quite ruthless. The early 20th century had a lot going on with the Bolsheviks and so forth and Jews were in the mix. Lots of killing.

How would you feel if Trump unilaterally installed laws making the government a dictatorship, and prohibited freedom of assembly and speech? Would you join a coup then? That's what happened.

I'll survive the left's imagination somehow.

No, Russia does not have the economic power to invade anyone but their weakest, formerly soviet bloc member, neighbors.

Not sure where you jumped to nuclear war, but just because Putin cannot attempt to do what Hitler did does not mean that he does not have the same mindset. He violated the Helsinki Accords and he's a Dictator for goodness sakes. He murders his political opponents, suppresses the media, and brutalizes those that speak out against him. He is a former KGB turd that called the fall of the Soviet Union one of the great tragedies of the 20th century.

They were not a part of Russia when the Russians invaded them a couple years ago. Why do you think he fears NATO gaining strength? What would NATO try to prevent? Why is encroaching democracy such a threat to him?

They also had a 25 year lease on the port, and I doubt anyone would argue against their need to keep the port, or their willingness to fight over it.
