I expect Texas to be in all three reveals, including the real one March 13, preferably in the top 6-9.

The first reveal is at halftime tonight (South Carolina vs Mississippi St game) where we'll get a look at the top 16 seeds.
Creme currently has the Longhorns at #12 overall, so will be interesting to see how his jives with the committee.

Horns come in at #10, a three seed. :coolnana:

Think we got a good shot at a #2 seed, depending on how we do against BU.

Lots of basketball to be played; but, glad to see our SOS rewarded. Maryland really got punished for a weak non-conference schedule; I still think they are one of the best four teams nationally, though.

For me, I just want us to stay out of UConn's part of the bracket. I fully expect UConn to be the #1 overall seed. So that means we can't be the #8, 9, or 16 seed. And, with Baylor most likely to be a Top 4 national seed, we can't be placed in their regional (same conference). So, that means we have a 33% chance of being in UConn's regional.

The PAC has several teams in the Top 16 -- Washington, Oregon State, Stanford, UCLA, and Arizona State. If they all remain there, then two PAC schools have to be in the same regional. The PAC having 4 teams in the Top 16 last year is what cost our seed to be "bumped" down and into UConn's regional. So this rule about trying to separate conference foes into different regionals is the one that plays havoc with many team's true seed.

It wouldn't bother me to see UConn again.

The unedited S-Curve seedings would be:

    1. UConn
    8. Oregon State
    9. Maryland
    16. Arizona State (might stay in same regional with OSU)

    2. Baylor
    7. Notre Dame
    10. Texas (can't be in same regional as Baylor)
    15. Kentucky (hosting regional in Lexington, so could be a factor for getting bumped)

    3. Miss. State
    6. Washington
    11. Duke
    14. UCLA (can't be in same regional as UW)

    4. South Carolina
    5. Florida State
    12. Stanford
    13. Louisville (can't be in same regional with FSU)

My adjusted seedings to avoid same conference teams in same regional (except for one region which has to have 2 PAC schools):

    1. UConn
    8. Oregon State
    9. Texas (bumped up in place of Maryland)
    16. Kentucky (bumped down in place of ASU)

    2. Baylor
    7. Notre Dame
    10. Maryland (bumped down in place of Texas)
    15. Arizona State (bumped up in place of Kentucky)

    3. Miss. State
    6. Washington
    11. Duke
    14. UCLA (couldn't bump them up to 13 as then they'd be in same region with Stanford)

    4. South Carolina
    5. Florida State
    12. Stanford
    13. Louisville (couldn't bump them down to 14 as then they'd be in same region with UW)

Miss State got robbed of a chance to win at the FT line. Coach's daughter got flattened by SC defender chasing Vivians and SC was not called for the obvious foul.

Yes. Refs played a hand in SC 3-pt win against MSST. They sent SC to the line 28 times and MSST only 6 and missed a crucial foul by SC in final secs. Have to hate it when that happens... unless it favors your team.

Mooooooo, thanks for figuring all this out about seedings. I don't understand it all, but heck, I just expect us to be in UConn's bracket. Whatever, bring 'em on. We should be desensitized to playing them by now.

Watched the game and came away wondering, how does Alaina Coates not get tossed from every alternate game? She swings her elbows wildly whenever she comes down with a rebound and, just with player traffic, how has she not KOd at least 3 players this season? She didn't connect with any tonight but I was flinching every time. I understand keeping elbows out to hold your space but swinging them like a Muay Thai fighter in Bangkok is a bit much.

How can we double check the "same region rule" IIRC two conference teams can be placed in the same region as long as they wouldn't meet until the regional final (elite 8) I know it happened with BU & aTm in 2011. Has that changed since?

I didn't see our loss to Mississippi State, but I wouldn't want to face them again. Their defense is unnerving and disruptive. They were the real victors, in a way. They almost won on South Carolina's home court and justified themselves as a one seed.

The rules change every year. Last year, the rule floated around was that two Top 16 teams from the same conference would not be placed in the same regional (as long as it could be avoided). So, the PAC had OSU, Stanford, UCLA, and Arizona State affecting things. As it turned out, Texas got bumped down to #8 seed and into UConn's regional so that Arizona State would not be in the same regional with #9 UCLA.

I also remember the debate regarding Kentucky hosting a regional, and if South Carolina was assigned to that regional as the top seed, then it meant Kentucky would be sent to a different regional. As it turned out, the committee seeded Kentucky in its own regional with Notre Dame as the top seed, and South Carolina was sent off to North/South Dakota.

While I don't there end up being 5 PAC teams among the Top 16 seeds, there will definitely be four. And, the ACC and SEC most likely will have three each.

Even looking at Charlie Creme's bracketology edition today, us and WVU are in the same region. So all things being equal I would like to see us in MSST's region if I were choosing between the current top 4 seeds.

I don't know if this has been mentioned yet, but if the top seeds stay the same, we will have faced all #1 seeds this season.

We'll be in the tournament, but if we want a really good high seed, I think we have to beat Baylor at least once, plus Florida State. It's one thing to play every top five team, but you have to eventually beat one of them.

That could very well be the case.

Regardless, it's tough to maintain the integrity of the bracket when you have to constantly bump up/down several teams just to keep conference teams from matching up at a certain round of the tournament. Obviously, something similar happens in the other sports, too, especially men's hoops.

I do recall something about trying to avoid placing two teams from one conference as the top two seeds in one regional. For example, the 4/5 national seeds from the same conference. Perhaps this would be to avoid the Baylor/A&M, UConn/Rutgers, and Tennessee/Vanderbilt scenarios from several years ago.

Guess we can worry more about how we might be impacted once our conference tournament has concluded.

Committee has Texas at a 2 seed and #6 overall. Win out and it's a 1 seed

Though they were behind Texas at #7, Maryland's loss to Ohio State helps.

Would be interesting to see what happens if we win out and win the B12 tournament. If we can knock BU of the 1 seed to a 2 that could get us moved to the OKC region which means we would never have to travel farther than Oklahoma City in the entire tournament.

Not necessarily. The reason Baylor has been slated for the OKC regional is because they had been at the #2 overall spot after UConn. So, the committee sends the highest of the four seeds to the closest regional to their campus. So, UConn goes to Bridgeport. Baylor has been #2 overall, so OKC is next closest.

If we win the rest of our games all the way through the Big 12 tournament championship, that might bump is into the top 4, and Baylor might fall out of the Top 4 and below us (even though we have several more losses). But, we don't just automatically swap places with Baylor and vault up to #2 overall. One of the SEC schools like USC or MSU moves up (assuming they win out) and so does Notre Dame (if they win out). So, if we are at #4, we most likely go to Stockton, CA.

Honestly, I don't think we will move ahead of MSU or USC as each of them beat us, and owns the head-to-head nod. Plus, we just have too many more losses than them. Of course, if either of them loses some unexpected games (like MSU against UK last night), that helps; and, getting upset early in the SEC tourney would really help us.
