Horns take the opener 4-1 behind two home runs from Kacy Clemens. Summary from BON http://www.burntorangenation.com/20...id-pierce-tim-cate-morgan-cooper-kacy-clemens
Texas drops middle game of series 2-1, bats decided to take day off and second straight day of double digit strikeouts. Rubber match today at noon.
Horns take rubber match 9-3 to win series 2-1 and improve their overall record to 5-3. This was a good UConn team and an impressive series win.
Kind of looking like a, used to be, typical UT baseball team. Strong fundamentals, firm defense, good/great pitching, good coaching. There appears to once again be balance in the Force. Hook 'em.
I was at the Saturday game. We continue to take too many pitches. 17 Ks if you can believe that. At least they got up off the deck in the 9th to make a run at it, anyway, and that seemed to carry into Sunday. We cannot hit the off-speed stuff across the board.
Hitting off speed stuff is the key to any successful campaign (HS, College, Pro). The issue in College is you rarely see your best pitchers throw hard in live batting practice once the season approaches or begins in an attempt to avoid injury. While Phil is correct now, I am waiting until the start of the Conference season to see what has been learned over the non-conference portion of the schedule.
I went to Saturday's game as well and agree with the above. I am not sure what to make of Hamilton. I've seen him make some great plays but also seen him make some terrible plays this year. Gurwitz and Hamilton both had terrible games Saturday, especially at the plate.
