Yep... bad news; sad too... that should be that then. Drop him. Sorry if I'm old school but if you want to be different then you have to be different, even when it hurts.

And the same as the Bama and other players got when they assaulted police and resisted arrest, and stole guns, etc..etc...

first off, it's good to say, "if he did it, then let him go." if being the key word. let's wait to punish him until it's more than an arrest...which i'm sure coach will do.

    Two words - "Tony Edwards"

The hang em high crowd and rush to judgement group killed our season, and did irreparable damage to recruiting. They destroyed a young man's reputation and career, all because some midget Mexican cop hated black football players (as later reported in the "Spaceman"), but unfortunately, the truth didn't come out until over six months after our fans booed Edwards off the field at Floyd Casey.

I don't know this young man, but trust that this first major decision of the Herman era will be handled properly, not in true Urban Meyer fashion.

"According to the report, Leitao was arrested at Jenks High School by campus police and was found with 20 Xanax pills and more than $1,300 on his person. The FOX 23 report also notes that Leitao admitted to a Jenks High School administrator that he was selling the Xanax pills."

So that pretty much seals it.

^^^^This. That's going to be hard to overcome. IF the facts are true, he might get a felony plea bargain to stay out of prison, and on probation which has a lot of restrictions especially regarding travel, but that's very slim especially since drugs were involved and the charge is intent to distribute.

What if he's still 17 - would that have any legal "positive" effects/impacts for him if guilty?

Depends, probably not if he is tried as an adult. He's probably a bit to old to be considered a juvenile and the crime he's accused of has the "D" word in it. Also, I don't know how it works in Oklahoma. Could be a plea deal struck, he would most likely has a felony and a probation with reporting to a Probation Officer and travel restrictions, he may run up against a ADA that want to make a "splash" with a trial and a local coverage to advance his career, and any variation in between. He may also be pressed to reveal his supplier. That could be a big problem and his world gets nasty real quick.

Young man should have signed with a school that would provide him with enough cash that he didn't have to do that crap.

A good attorney would have said that he had the $1,300 given to him by LSU or Ole Miss, and he was trying to clean up his school by buying all the drugs to keep other kids from having a supply line. It's Oklahoma; the judge likely graduated from OU Law School, and would clearly have understood that explanation. :ousucks:

    1. I am usually on defending the accused end, but this one looks pretty straight forward. Herman should wait to confirm before taking action, but it the accusations are true, go ahead and cut the scholarship. Like I said, Herman should always wait and confirm first.

    2. One thing that suprised me at UT was that a LOT of wealthy students were selling their prescription drugs (like adderall for example) and were very open about it to everyone including people like me who were not buying or in the market at all. Many of them simply did not need the money, had pushover parents that would give them whatever they wanted, yet would sell anyway. I never got why they would other than 18-22 year olds are dumb (and I am talking about the wealthy kids, not the middle class or poor ones who might need money). It would not suprise me to see more and more 18-22 year olds get arrested for selling prescription drugs. The sad part is the parents who put their kids on these drugs will not see it coming.

With the core values and following behind Strong, Herman has NO CHOICE but to cut this kid loose IF these allegations are true. What a darn shame, since we NEED a TE who can be a beast for us....SMH
Well OU or Bama will get a good TE out of all this.

IMHO, Herman isn't tied to Strong's platform any more than Strong was tied to Brown's.

Herman will do what he thinks is the right thing to do because it's the right thing to do, not because it's a WWCD (What Would Charlie Do) thing.

i don't think it matters much, but i do think he's affected by "the ghost of charlie." i think coach wants to be a "good guy" like charlie, not a win at all cost guy. and there may be an altruistic reason to bring this kid along rather than cutting him loose. but if coach doesn't cut him (IF the charges are confirmed as true), following charlie, he'd then be seen as a win at all costs type.

so the only way herman is affected by WWCD is if leitao is guilty, and coach has thoughts about keeping him.

Herman has already expressed the same core values as Strong.

^^^This. Even then, the legal process still has to run its course. IF he is tried, convicted and sent to jail, case closed. Convicted and probation with a felony drug charge, still not good. Charged with a misdemeanor and fine/probation, not as bad, but still not good. Case dismissed or not guilty at trial then it's up to the coach to weigh the facts and decide what message he wants to send out to the team, the university and to fans.

I know almost nothing about criminal law--especially in Oklahoma--but the statute you cited said "imprisonment OR fine." So, given that it's fairly common prescription meds sold by one 17 year-old to other teenagers, not a 35 year-old selling cocaine to kids across the back fence of the school, he's probably a candidate for the low end of the spectrum.
