North Carolina State defeated Auburn 62-48 by not letting the Tigers’ press rattle them. Neither team shot well from the field although NCS did better than UA. NCS was 37.7% to UA’s 24.6%. NCS was 25% from BTA (7-28) to Auburn’s 2-17 (11.8%). UA did force 20 TOs.

NCS’s leaders scorers for the season coming into the NCAA playoffs were Dominique Wilson (#22, 5-8 RS Sr. G) at 13.5 ppg, Miah Spencer (#3, 5-8 Sr. G) at 12.3 ppg, Chelsea Nelson (#5, 6-2 Jr. F) at 11.2 ppg and Jennifer Mathurin (#11, 6-1 Sr. F) at 9.8 ppg. In the win over Auburn, Wilson had 23 pts, Spencer scored 13 pts, Mathurin added nine while Nelson had eight pts.

Nelson was the leading rebounder during the regular season at 6.2 rpg. Mathurin was second at 5.7 rpg. Mathurin tied with Ashley Williams (#4, 5-8 Sr. G) for game high in rebounding in the UA game at 10 rebounds. Nelson had two rebounds.

NCS had only one block. They do have some height coming off the bench: Akela Maize (#32, 6-5 Jr. C) and Nae Nae Cole (#44, 6-3 Soph. C). Maize played in 25 of the 31 games with an average of 11.6 mpg. She did get 20 minutes versus Auburn.

The starting lineup versus Auburn was Mathurin (28 minutes-fouled out); Nelson (18 minutes-four fouls); Wilson 35 minutes); Spencer (26 minutes) and Williams (34 minutes). Only Maize (20 minues), Kaila Ealey (#2, 5-8 RS Fr. G; 14 minutes) and Aislinn Konig (#1, 5-9 Fr. G; 12 minutes) played any significant time off the bench. Maize was the only post to come in relief of Mathurin and Nelson.

Horns had all 11 available players play at least 11 minutes. In fact, only Brooke (29 minutes) and LaShann (21 minutes) broke the 20 minute barrier. Every one contributed at least four points with 15 pts (including 3-4 from BTA) leading the way. Joyner just missed a double double in her first NCAA game with 12 pts and 9 rebs. Kelsey had 10 pts to round the Horns in double figure scoring.

Horns should be more rested and seem to have gotten back their shooting stroke, hitting 51.7% and 50.0% from BTA. They dominated on the boards 55 to 23. The one area they did not do well in were TOs as they finished with 21 while UCA had only 10.

Still, Horns will have a significant advantage inside, height wise and numbers wise. I am not sure who NCS will put on Joyner. That should be an interesting game within the game to watch.

Half of NCS’ shots versus Auburn were from BTA, 28 shots from BTA to a total of 53 FGs attempted. Auburn’s press bothered NCS at times. Have to wonder if the Horns will also be able to force NCS to turn the ball over with their press.

Game time is still pending at this time.

I think that NC State is a matchup problem for Texas and will win this game. They're a very good defensive team and are hard to guard with their guard play.

I read earlier this week that the NCAA was considering not to hold any tournament games in North Carolina until 2022 because of the state's 'bathroom' bill. If the Great State of Texas passes a similar bill later this year, do you think Sunday will be our last chance to see a NCAA tournament game for a while?

Even more of a reason for everyone to get out and go to the game Sunday.

I have tickets to the Women's Final Four but I'd love nothing more than for the NCAA to pull it out if Texas lawmakers pass the so-called "bathroom bill." Idiots deserve it.

Mixing politics with sports, especially when penalizing universities, is simply stupid.

It becomes even more stupid when done over a piece of legislation that impacts a minuscule number of people...

Standing up against discriminatory leglislation created to promote a religious agenda and cause harm to a marginalized population is stupid.
As for minuscule number of people - tell that to the third grader in Dripping Springs who simply wants to pee in the restroom that matches her gender identity. Or her parents. Tell that to my friend who is transgender and has to plan ahead to go to restaurants or the theater to make sure she has a safe place to pee.

Thank goodness the NCAA has the courage to take a stand against hate-driven legislation. I stand with them.

geez, seems to be very little talk about their upcoming games on other Big 12 teams' forums, especially OU and BU, who are usually pretty active before games.

There's been a lot of talk about the tourney in general especially about whether Alexis Jones will be be back or not. And it appears that she is. I doubt that most Baylor fans even know who they play first. There will be a game thread today and a lot of talk after the game I'm sure. Baylor certainly has the potential to make it to Dallas and I believe Texas does too, especially if they can return to the form they had when they played at Waco. That was a very impressive performance.

The fact that it affects so few is exactly why the NCAA needs to stand firm against it. Beating up on the least among us is unsportsmanlike.

You couldn't be more OFF-BASE here. Pulling sporting events out of a state that OPENLY discriminates is a very powerful tool to let these BIGOTS know that it is NOT OKAY. Whether in your opinion it impacts only a "minuscule" number of people is totally irrelevant and a very weak argument. It STILL adversely impacts and discriminates. It is a WILLFUL and INTENTIONAL attempt by fundy bigots in this state to minimize an entire group of people. NOT gonna work in 2017.......

The true trans (ie. the ones who actually have plans for surgery) were not the ones clamoring for the 'protections' nor are they the source of the problem. Rather it is a problem that has long festered ever since TransInc brought the 'transgender umbrella' to the table about 25 years ago.

As a lesbian, I have certainly known more than my share of actual transsexuals and have a client who now admits that she took things too far (female to trans). She was one of the butch females who was persuaded what a great thing it was...

I don't like mixing politics with my sports. I don't like mixing my sports with politics either. It used to be that one could simply ENJOY a sport. Anyone who has actually taken the time to review the incidents of females being abused by the male-to-trans (in the USA as well as in other countries) would understand why female segregated space is still a very much needed thing. A person born male is not and will not ever be female and vice-versa, no matter how many chemicals one ingests.

Personal injury attorneys about 15-20 years in the future are going to make major bank suing the various entities pushing trans upon kids today. I am EXTREMELY glad I am not a kid now...I am sure I and many other 'tomboys' would have been trans'ed by parents. Trans as it is being pushed today is gay eugenics...parents would rather have a 'trans' kid than a 'gay' or 'lesbian' child.

Unsportsmanlike and disgusting. It was only
Wow. You have no idea what transgender is or means. You should do some research. I am sure parents are pushing their kids to be trans. Sure. "Hey son/ daughter - you should try that trans thing. I hear it's a great way to sneak into public restrooms and risk getting killed."

It has absolutely nothing to do with "ingesting chemicals." Also while you're doing research please find a single case anywhere in the country or the world of a female being attacked by a "male to trans" (whatever that is) in a women's restroom. Guess how many documented cases? Zero.

We should be protecting trans people - the marginalized and the abused - not the other way around.

Thank you for making me even more aware of how far we have to go. It's why I'll do everything in my power to support the NCAA and oppose elected officials in Texas who hide behind religion to do harm to citizens who already face abuse, violence and even death.

Btw you know being lesbian is a crime in some countries as well. I wonder who stands up for those marginalized individuals? Not you - obviously.

This Women's Basketball thread took a quick detour into several non-basketball discussions.
Please observe site policies and take the off-thread conflict to the West Mall forum.

If your post were not so utterly ABSURD, I "might" take the time to dismantle every one of your weak and ill-founded arguments. You have absolutely NO idea what you are talking about. It's outright disgusting to see this type of "ignorance" from someone in our own community.....

Don't read it or respond to it. This is about the NCAA and basketball - and life. And sometimes life is controversial.

    OK.
But this sounds like "rules don't apply to me".
Politics and impact of legislation can lead civil people to resort to unfriendly responses to make their case or defend their position.

I could just as easily say"Say what you wish, but start your own thread."
This thread title is about a different discussion.
    Hook 'em.

When you see someone use a term like "true trans" you know you're dealing with a special kind of uninformed.

    Isn't Duke hosting this weekend?

Exactly. Back to NC State and the NCAA - I hope we beat the hell out of them. I hope the NCAA never spends a dime in North Carolina. And if Texas passes the so-called "bathroom bill" I hope our state suffers economically in deep and profound ways. Hook 'em.

This thread has gone way off the rails — and I think most of you have been here long enough to know that we have Posting Guidelines and that political topics belong in the West Mall, not on the sports forums.

I am locking this thread. If you want to talk about the NC State game, start another thread and keep the politics out of it.
