The WV that played Elon sure wasn't the one that showed up at the Big 12 Tourney. I don't see them beating Maryland unless they get that "Lightning back in the bottle". By the same token the Texas and Baylor teams that showed up at the Big 12 Tourney was sure not the team they could have and should have been.
Iowa St looks just horrible today. Down 25 at the end of 1st Q. Did not hit a single 2-pt shot (0-10 I think). Syracuse lighting them up from the 3 ironically
Yep, horrible is an understatement. I don't understand why Fennelly let it get so far out of hand before calling that first TO.
Stanford had a good fourth quarter to beat New Mexico State. But NMSU was great, were ahead through most of the game. I can't see how they were a 15 seed. They had had a 16 or 17 game winning streak and won the WAC. The WAC must carry no weight at all. I don't know how many are seniors, but they could be a seriously good team next year with Brooke Salas being a sophomore. It will be interesting to see what kind of tricky zone defense Jeff Mittie will try to use against Stanford. Probably try to keep it from getting inside, and go hard after Samuelson and McPhee beyond the arc. It's hard for me to see how KSU can beat Stanford. Stanford has a lot of weapons when they get them going.
KSU stops Drake, 67-54. Will play Stanford next on Monday. ISU loses to Syracuse, 85-65. BU having little trouble with Tx Southern, 61-13 at the half. OU looking good versus Gonzaga, up 39-26 at the half. Big 12 is 3-1 with two games currently at the half. Good chance Big 12 goes 5-1 in round one.
Mulkey runs up up the score again. Beating an inferior team by 89 points in Round 1 - typical Mulkey. Bless her heart, she just can't help herself.
I am going to disagree with this. The little I saw before half, she already had reserves playing. UConn also destroyed their opponent by 50+. Sometimes, it is just a total mismatch and that will happen when you place a #16 vs a #1.
Just saw the Duke-Hampton score. 76-17 with a few seconds left in the third. Another example of a game between two teams that are grossly mismatched.
Game of interest (to me anyway), #5 aggie losing to #12 Penn 58-37 with 9 minutes left in the game. Shocker!
Up by like 70 points to begin the 4th quarter, Baylor continued shooting (and making) 3 point shots, and it's not like they were milking the shot clock. I was only half paying attention, but saw them knock down at least five of them. That is my gripe. They were launching shots early and often in that final quarter and determined to stretch out that 70 point lead to 90 points.
Sure. Happens so often that twice now she's turned it into a record-setting event. Please. Mulkey is Mulkey.
With Marquette and A&M losing.....they were the only true upsets so far. I don't count a 9 beating an 8 an upset (Cal and Purdue). Just shows that women's basketball still has some room to grow where the second 32 teams can provide more upsets. That is what makes for an exciting tourney. For sure the second round should provide more upsets. I just hope that the Longhorns hold up but lots of upsets in the other games.
I have a very long history of sticking big foot in mouth. The only good thing about that comeback was that I didn't have to watch aggy make that comeback. They were totally inept for 3 quarters and I left to actually talk to the wife. I need to remind myself to stop doing that.........communicating with the wife that is. But maybe that is not a good idea either.
