The basketball gods have been very unkind to Notre Dame. In 2014, they lost another All American center/forward, Natalie Achonwa, to a knee injury right before the Final Four. Luck always plays a huge role in these things. For example, UConn has had its share of injuries over the years, like everybody, but over the last 4 seasons I don't think they've lost a single starter to serious injury. That helps.

Too far to drive to Lexington so I'll be cheering for my Longhorns at the OKC regional.

That's awful for her and Notre Dame. The timing of the injury makes it difficult to rehab fully for her senior season; perhaps January 2018 would be a realistic goal to return.

I saw it happen, she just landed awkwardly, it didn't look that bad, but I guess you never know. Feel really bad for her.

Flights from Austin are $800. Wow. Might as well be Europe.
Currently listed on ESPN (not ESPN2) for Friday @ 8pm Central Time Zone. Not sure exact tip-off time as the earlier game (ND v OSU) will determine that.

Would absolutely love to see Louisville spoil it for Baylor again.

Check flights in to the Cincinnati airport (CVG). It's only a little over an hour drive to Lexington from there. Might be worth saving flight money.

Our game will begin 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first game which starts at 6 PM CST. Not sure why ESPN is listing all the seconds games as starting exactly 2 hours after the first games begin; they know better than that. Most games last 2 hours or so.

I would expect our game to being around 8:30 PM CST, unless the first game goes into OT.

Our game will air on ESPN at the same time as Baylor's game which will air on ESPN2.

In the Baylor video above I am pretty sure that the announcer complaining about the charge is Rebecca Lobo. At least she is consistent in her whining

I have mixed feelings about Baylor-Louisville. Of course I'm not the fondest of Mulkey or Baylor. But I had a bad feeling about the way Walz beat them in '13. Louisville's threes were mindboggling in that game, but (I'm sure you all remember) Walz' players beat the hell out of Brittany Griner, at least in the first half. It's still the most outrageous "defense" on a player I've ever seen. The referees and Kim Mulkey all seemed to be too stunned to do a thing. The refs didn't call fouls, Kim didn't have a typical fit. It was very odd. Never had much respect for Jeff Walz for coaching a style like that.

Brittney got similar treatment to a much lesser degree every game she played in college. I watched a lot of Baylor games when she was there just because I had never seen that combination of size and athleticism before. That Louisville game was one of the worst officiated games because of what wasn't called. Pair that with Louisville's crazy 3-point shooting in that tournament and it cost Mulkey her back to back championship. :p

Maybe I watched the game with Louisville colored glasses on, but all I saw was a team that was determined to limit the best player in the game and a crazed Baylor coach who didn't know what to do. As Walz said, Baylor averaged 80 points and scored 80 points. It was the Louisville offense that won the game. Not their defense or perceived nasty play. IMHO

I will never shed any tears for Mulkey or Baylor. If the refs in that game truly had done such a deplorable job, wouldn't they have been reprimanded or fired? I don't believe that was the case.

Believe me - Mulkey/Baylor losing does not bother me at all but Griner never got calls other players would get with half the contact. That's not unique to her, pretty common among dominant post players. I saw a lot of NBA games when Shaq was playing that could have qualified as WWE events.

Moooooo, would we know if a referee was reprimanded? Surely they have some kind of feedback system. I would guess such a thing would remain private, like in someone's personnel records.

I sure don't hold it against Walz. He had his players playing very aggressive defense which the refs allowed, so why would he have them hold back? In it to win it within the confines of how the game was being called. I still relish that game because Baylor was notorious for man handling then. He beat Kim at her own game if you ask me.

Not a lot of defense for Notre Dame and Ohio State. 50-42, Notre Dame at the half!

Notre Dame in control. 99-76 with less than 2 minutes to go.

Notre Dame was better without Brianna Turner than with. She is a good player, but I never thought as good as her rep. Their guards could just play freely and they were outstanding.
