At the risk of sounding like the old man yelling at the kids to get off the lawn, this is why I don't watch or support college basketball much anymore. There is no loyalty. It is a purely mercenary venture. Rooting for a jersey doesn't cut it for me.

That being said, I support the elimination of the one and done rule. I think you should be allowed to turn pro at anytime if you are good enough to play. Hollywood pays children. The Jackson 5 were just kids. Shawn Mendes is just a kid (I know him because my daughter is in love with him!).

But if you make a mistake and go too early, then too bad; that's life.

    Bystander,
If you think it is ok to be one and done and off to the NBA why do you support the elimination of the regulation that allows one and done?

I don't like what Jones' is doing and don't think he is ready to go at all. But that's his call. As I said, it affects my interest in these games anymore. But I also don't think there should be any restriction at all from a purely freedom to live your life standpoint. It's the way of the world and I don't see the conflict with no longer supporting college basketball because of the one and done rule and also being in favor of eliminating it. If a player goes to school for one year after the elimination of the one and done rule and leaves after one year I still won't like it. But he should have that right. I'm not questioning the right; just my interest in the sport at the collegiate level anymore. And I guess the world is moving past me on this one.

I think you should be able to go pro straight outta high school but if you sign with a college you should be committed for 2 or 3 years like college baseball. Solution to the one and done

"There are a lot of scouts who feel like Jones is a major sleeper. He's an elite athlete who plays above the rim and has shown the ability to knock down the 3. He really came along in Big 12 play.

The Nets need to continue to swing for the fences with these late draft picks and hope they connect. Jones is a good bet down this low."

    Projection Late First Round Pick
    Positives
    • Athletic combo guard
    • Always plays in attack mode
    • Excellent in transition
    • Can defend both backcourt positions
    Negatives
    • A tweener?
    • Can be an over dribbler
    • Needs to add a consistent 3-point shot
    • Needs to add strength

I really hope he stays. But if he is offered (or reasonably assured of) a multimillion dollar-multi year deal, then he is gone. And I wish him the very best if that is the case. :hookem:

No question he's a good athlete but elite is a bit much. The NBA and college basketball are jokes if he's a first rounder. He's not a good ball handler or shooter at a guard position. All I can say is wow. I need to become an agent.

That may be a better idea than what's out there now although college fans won't get to see the best players at all. One thing that makes college football and the NFL great is that college fans get to see the best, know who they are, and follow them into the NFL. With the NBA, college fans don't get to connect enough with the players with 1 and done, don't know who or where the players come from. Then add foreign players to the mix that many never heard of. To top it off most of these players aren't ready but since the NBA is so watered down with so many average players already maybe it doesn't matter. Anyway the NBA is unwatchable during the regular season and college is getting there.

I honestly would not know what to make of two players being drafted off our worst team since the 80s other than the one and done rule needs to be reformed.

I'd say it was a pretty strong indictment of the three who weren't.

Tell us something we didn't know. Guard play was so bad at Texas last season, the NBA should have laughed when he submitted his papers.

I am sure he is disappointed at the report (and has a number of "insiders" telling him differently), but he needs to spend another year learning how to play guard - it will be worth it in the long run.

He might be able to learn how to play in a "D" league in front of 50 people; or overseas.

But he would also learn here, and have a lot more fun, and get a good education in the process. Plus, he would play in front of his family, and friends. Staying in college, getting the college experience, developing rapport with the longhorn nation, has a lot of benefits.

Plus playing with a real point guard is going to make a big difference. He could be an all-conference level guy next year and make himself a lot of money if he's patient for one or two more years.

When Mo committed Jones should have removed himself from draft consideration. However, the NBA is so screwed up that I would only be mildly surprised if one of the loser teams took a flyer on him.

Good for him! Now all he has to do is show everyone that he can play at a high level for a season.

It'll be an interesting dynamic between the 6 returners and 5 newcomers. I bet we'll have a lot of growing pains like 2017. We need Banks and Young to improve a ton, otherwise they'll be supplanted by Bamba/Sims and Febres.

I hope this is the case; in other words, I hope the newcomers are able to play at level that will push Banks, Young, and even Davis and Roach to new levels. That would be excellent.
I expect our turnover to assist ratio to improve significantly which in itself will result in doubling our wins from this year to next.

Banks could hit his ceiling and still be supplanted by Bamba. He was always going to be a 3-4 year project, and he'll do well as a defensive sub who can continue working on his game. Young has no business playing meaningful minutes in a P-5 conference.

Bamba will start and play 30+ minutes. Banks, as Prodigal said, is going to spell Bamba for water and towel time, and come in if/when he fouls out. Coleman will start and get 30+ minutes. Young is going to play garbage time cleanup or emergency PG in absolute desperation. That sounds terrible to say and I hope he doesn't read these boards. But, you know. I see a lot of older guys getting hurt feelings over these youngsters getting lots of PT. This recruiting class is absolutely going to push the hell out of the incumbent roster. Everybody better bring their stuff.

I may be at odds with the rest of y'all, but I still have faith in Young.
