Well if "sports performance" is the same thing as "strength and conditioning," this is an interesting coincidence. The other day I ran across this comment at the Boneyard, in a thread about which teams will improve next season:

One of the problems with Boothe is she has many of Holmes' qualities without her athleticism. One thing she has in common with Holmes is her poor conditioning. Aston realized she needed Holmes last year in the NCAA's to win yet because of her poor conditioning Holmes couldn't stay on the floor for more than 5 min without getting gassed. Watching Boothe live at the Jordan Classic she seemed in even worse condition. For Aston to have a chance in the Big 12 next year she needs to crack down on their conditioning now and continue during the season, or else it'll be more of the same.

I have no idea if this has any merit....as a casual fan I didn't notice it... but I do believe a couple of Hornfans commenters mentioned Holmes conditioning late in the season or during the NCAAs. I may post this on another thread just to see if anyone has opinions.

Nothing out there on twitter about McPherson. Obviously, if Coach A already made the replacement hire, he must have been gone for a while.

New guy is from Kansas women's hoops team; not sure what to think.

Needs a little work on the "Hook 'em" but he'll get there.

Re: Dr. D's comments above about the UConn post on Joyner's conditioning. I have read that UConn poster make that comment about Joyner more than once. There was a game in the playoffs in which Joyner got really tired and did need to go out after 5 minutes. But he can't extrapolate from that. I doubt he watched enough Longhorn games to know. We've all seen Joyner play for many minutes on end, not always getting "gassed in 5 minutes." Think of her great full-court drives to the basket. I am no expert on conditioning, and what the guy says could have some truth to it. It seems a little early to judge Rellah. I've read slams on her conditioning a few times on the UConn board. Let's see when the time comes. Maybe she'll work hard this summer. I don't expect her to have just the same skill set as Joyner.

needed to go out after 5 minutes for some reason. It seemed to me that that poster, forget his name, was really influenced by that. Hard to believe he watched Joyner enough last year to have such a strong opinion. I may just not be good at noticing conditioning, but I never

Based on the brief clips of the U19 trials, it definitely looked like Joyner has been working. The conditioning concern has been voiced about Rellah before but that same criticism can be said of the vast majority of freshmen players. With the roster Coach Aston has put together as well as her player rotation strategy, I actually think Rellah's conditioning isn't as much of a concern here as it would be at other schools.
