Trump supporters tend to defend flip-flops in a number of ways. 1. His unpredictability keeps opponents off guard. Kim doesn't know what Trump will do. Xi is a currency manipulator and then he's not. I love Wikileaks but maybe Assange should be in prison. And so forth. 2. Trump is just practicing his art of the deal. Intentionally, he states or overstates a position with the intent of generating a stronger negotiating position. Bottom line, whether country B is negotiating a trade deal with the US or trying to come to an inderstanding on foreign policy with the US, how willing will that country be to deal with the US if they don't believe anything Trump says or think any agreement reached will later be welched on?
