Apparently not off to a good start?

That said, I do not think the actions of these players are Strong's fault and this judge's rant seems out of line to me.

That was way out of line. Dude just arrived there 5 months ago, and now he's responsible for problems that have obviously been going on longer than he's been in the Tampa area? That judge seems like one of those "why do colleges even have sports?" elitists whose **** smells better than mine.

Strong will continue to use his core values to guide whether or not those kids stay on the team. He's not their babysitter.

Boy, she was tough on Charlie.

Can you imagine how bad she would have gone off on Stoops and Sumlin?!?
    Wouldn't be pretty.

I found the full quote by the judge:

"I graduated from USF, I'm an alumni, graduated from USF in 1989, long before there was a football team," Taylor said to Jackson. "And while USF may not be the top-ranked school in the nation, I was never ashamed of being an alum until now.

"Embarrassed and ashamed, Mr. Jackson. Let's just say that my USF diploma is not proudly hanging in my office right now.

"And, I have a message for your coach, as well. Coach Strong, if you are listening, in the last couple of months there have been two arrests of your players for very violent felonies. This court, and I'm sure I'm not alone, questions whether you have control over your players. It's fairly clear you do not have control of them off the field, and I guess only time will tell whether you have control over them on the field.

"I would implore you to think long and hard about whether being head coach at USF is a good fit for you before any other members of this community have to suffer at the hands of one of your players.

"Mr. Jackson, again assuming the facts surrounding your charges are true, your behavior is reprehensible."

^ Horns11 nailed it. She is just an anti-football type. I may have to start agreeing with the "Charlie cannot catch a break" crowd. He takes over a new team. There are bad apples like on every team. The bad apples get in trouble. These bad apples happen to go before an anti-football judge that decides to rant against the new coach. Getting a ranting judge is just bad luck for Charlie.

Was just about to say that. "Proudly?" Sandwiched between University of La Verne and Biola University in the US News rankings. USF is a hell hole... a poor man's University of Houston. Rich Oppel went there though.

So the season has not even started yet and a prominent alum is criticizing him?

In all seriousness, this "judge" should be reprimanded and/or removed from the bench.

She jumped far away from the trials for the alleged crimes she is presiding over.

And she made it all about HER and a football coach????

Let's update the imagery and not saddle Charlie with his past failure.

Good luck at USF. You are going to need it.

On the one hand, she did stray outside the lines, but there is a clear message that the judicial system is not apt to be tolerating the crap that goes on in other locales...

I have to say that I actually did like her quote (however inappropriate for the bench) about time will tell if he had control ON the field. It at least says she knows what the past three years looked like...

Hopefully Charlie steps up and boots the (alleged) criminals. Too many programs are too lax on the players who SHOULD be getting held to a higher standard.

Thought handling players and keeping them out of trouble was a strong suit for Charlie Strong. If only he had been as good at coaching up special teams and hiring staff...

If you have followed the saga of Willie Taggart since he has been at Oregon this should not surprise you.

I would put CS in charge of my son any day. After Ricky Williams went pro and the marijunia "scandal" was big news, I remember Mack getting fed up with a reporter and growling "Ricky Williams can babysit my grand kids any day of the week (I'm not even sure he had grand kids, but i loved the response). After the 2005 OU blowout he was asked if this had been an "must win", he said "no, World War II was a must win. this was a football game").

I would suggest that she consider her annual CLE include the proclaimed "Dealing With College Athletes" taught by Phil Fulmer. :hookem2:

    This judge is an idiot.
Someone needs to remind this judge that her job is to try this case in the court of law, and let the media try this case (and CS) in the court of public opinion. I can't believe this person has been elevated to judge without having this common sense.

I also thought her comment about the on the field aspect was funny. If you want to see wins on the field, buckle up buttercup. Its going to be a while before you proudly display that diploma* again.

I don't know DS. On paper there isn't more than 2 losses on their schedule. If he goes less than 9-3 the wolves should be at his door.

    Strong reacts.
"In the short time I have been here our program has been built on character, discipline and family. We have wonderful young men in the USF football program who choose to do the right thing every day. We are dedicated to recruiting young men of high character, and to consistently developing them with structure and frequent education regarding appropriate conduct and behavior, on and off the playing field. While I am shocked and saddened at the recent arrest of a member of our team, I am disappointed that the actions of two players over the last two months have harmed the reputation of our program, of our wonderful university and of my character. We have high expectations of our coaches, staff and student-athletes and we hold accountable those who act contrary to our values."

The judge better wait until football season so she has enough embarrassment left for when she witnesses Charlie's game plan and in game decisions.

I have to respect Strong taking the high road in his response to the judge. That was the right response and I think Strong's response makes him look a lot better compared to the judge and her rant.

Agreed. I always thought CS did a good job of owning it. While I got tired of hearing "we just have to get better", he never really deflected. It would have been easy in this case to act defensive and say "look ***** I just got here. I didn't recruit this kid. Get a clue"

Never have been and never will be a Strong apologist. That said, the judge, right or wrong, is reacting to a stain on "her school", which had little or nothing to do with Strong.

I can't begin to think what this board would have looked like if the technology had existed during the Tony Edwards' fiasco. We had our fans booing our team and coaches at Floyd Casey Stadium, throwing things at them from the stands. USF's kids seem to be bad actors. Tony Edwards, was totally innocent, but it destroyed his career and our season, but that didn't keep hundreds of our fans from being a total embarrassment.

She got her 15 minutes of fame, and the way Strong works, she'll probably be a guest coach for one of the creampuff games.

Dumbass had to recuse herself for this stunt. I wonder if she realized she had incriminated the defendant for herself, or if someone else had to point that out for her.
