2 current Longhorns and 1 future have been invited to the U19 Team Trials. Sedona is 1 of 3 of the youngest (all on the Cy Fair Elite squad). Longhorn Kamie Ethridge is an assistant coach for the U19 team.

Joyner (71) flashes a few times in this video.

Joyner looks quick and a little thinner in those clips. Who is blowing past Sug at the 12 second mark? All in all, those girls are playing fast and aggressive. Great experience for them.

Thought the same about Joyner (too chicken to be the first to make the comment :)).
Not sure about the G who caught Sug flat-flooted on D. Only know it wasn't Christyn Williams or Crystal Dangerfield.

Not a sure thing any of the Longhorns make the squad but I agree, a great learning opportunity for all of them.

Last day to make an impression. Joyner with a very Joyneresque bucket and foul at the 8-second mark.

Congrats to Sug and Joyner! I'm not familiar with the process of making the USAWU19 team. Did Chasity, Destiny and Rellah not get an invite to try out?

I'd like to know that, too, LutherIs. Proud of Sug and Joyner. Sug may have surprised a lot of people. Wish Sedona had made it, but she was one of three 18 year olds even invited. UConn's Charli Collier and Mikayla Combs weren't chosen for the team either.

Can't say with certainty but, unlike other junior national teams, only invitees may attend. Chasity, Destiny and Rellah could have declined.

Happy for both, but especially for Sutton. Hope this gives her more confidence and it carries over to her sophomore season.

very interesting and surprising to other boards that Sutton made the team. Could be quite significant for Texas team rotation this season. I wonder if she upped her offensive game a lot.

Other vaunted players who did not make they team (all freshmen next year): Evina Westbrook (ESPN #2 to Tennessee), Dana Evans (will be Louisville freshman), Sidney Cooks. I guess there were three players who will be seniors in high school: Sedona, Charli Collier, Christyn Williams. Of those, only Williams made the team. People on the UConn board seem to believe they have her pretty much locked up as a recruit. She has five finalists, one of whom is Baylor.

I understand that it is an honor to be offered a scholarship from UConn. However, top 10 rated recruits have to realize that their playing time is going to be limited as they stand in line behind other blue chip recruits for their opportunity to play at UConn. How does UConn continue to stock pile talent year after year? Christyn Williams and Charli Collier must realize that they will probably watch and learn for most of their first year and possibly have limited playing time for their sophomore season.

This situation concerns me for our recruiting efforts at Texas as the chances for a heralded freshman to play immediately at Texas is diminishing as our cupboard is full of McDonald’s AA. In fact, I expect other schools to use our roster to negatively recruit against Texas.

I suppose it all boils down to the perception of the “best wanting to play for the best”. It just gets tricky for coaches to keep kids happy after they get on campus and have a reality check of what it takes to play at the next level. Gino seems to do a good job of setting expectations with relatively few transfers. Hopefully, Karen will be able to do the same balancing act over the next two years.

I think KA does a better job of keeping all players involved than Geno does. For the past few seasons, Geno has used a 7-8 player rotation meaning half his scholarship players only get mop up minutes. Those can be significant in number for UCONN during conference play but they have very little impact/sense of importance.
Karen frequently rotates 10-11 deep, even during close games. I'm sure players realize that when they go to UCONN but I'd prefer players who really fight for minutes with significance. Just my opinion - Geno must set expectations because he doesn't have many transfers.

Aston manages minutes FAR better than Geno or Mulkey. She doesn't waste talent trying to run up scores and pad stats like Baylor and others. No need for top recruits to worry... If you come to Texas and perform -- YOU'LL PLAY.

Well of course somebody picked highlights here, but Sutton looks great offensively. If she plays like that this season, look out for U.T...In her interview with Texas Sports about making the U19 team, she didn't mention her offense at all, just said she concentrated on showing the coaches she could play D and make good decisions at point guard.

The best highlight was the pass.
