Man this team is so snake-bit over the years at DT and TE.

Can't figure out if he's leaving because of the academic demands or if he's not the star he thinks he is under the new staff.

maybe he just sees himself developing better for the next level in a different defense?

I have been reading a few accounts on this, but its all somewhat nebulous.
Both guys might want to transfer to Missouri where Brick Haley went.
But we can block it, like we blocked transfers to USF.
Nothing formal or public on this so far.

The defensive staff is supposed to want to play more 4-man DL fronts this coming season and we were already thin on the interior line positions. So, however you look at it, these transfers do not help in that effort.

The $EC is a run oriented league so the DL techniques are simple when compared to what is needed in the Big XII so Haley's unofficial "recruiting" of them is understandable. Since over the past 3 seasons Texas could not get constant pressure on the QB with the front 3/4, Texas isn't losing much because those two did not account for much. Looks like a win/win as it opens playing time to those who want to play for Texas.

More so even when the base is a 3-man front with one of the OLBs acting as the other DE when called for. 2018 might be more of an issue than this season. Also, we know they want more height/size with their DEs in the future.

Wasn't Elliot headed to BU, then jumped ship? Now at UT things don't go his way...so he jumps ship. Interesting, seen it before and never seen it work out for the 5 Star youngsters who have just found out they aren't playing HS ball anymore.
That said, I sincerely hope these two do well.

Actually, I don't think this is "enough bodies." Two defensive ends who have played at least one down of college ball. No experienced depth here at all. Not good. I would like to redshirt a freshman, grow him strengthen him before having to count on him.
Three tackles who have played at least one down of college football. Only one player with experience to rotate in. Again, would prefer to redshirt the freshman, enlarge him, strengthen him, etc.

Don't have any clue how the freshmen will play. Experienced talent is always preferable to untested, learning on the fly players. Whatever, they will play as best as they can, as hard as they can, and fight the whole game. They will be well coached. They will be playing against well coached players on the top B12 opponents. Their hands will be full.

    Sorry but...
Losing "experience" from a 5-7 team whose defense was historically bad is not that big a concern for me, unless your name is Jefferson or Hager.
Time for some real playmakers to step up.

No need to be sorry for disagreeing with me. I've been wrong enough and right enough to know that differing opinions about stuff like this is welcome.

It is my thought that the 5-7 season was mainly due to poor coaching. Poor preparation, poor in game decisions, poor everything. Not so much due to the actual talent of the players. They were young to be sure, but I thought they played with very good athleticism, but not good leadership or coaching.

I look for the team to be improved this year due to coaching, and the growth and maturity of a young team.

That being said, I wish those two big D linemen would be here to contribute. But they won't so good luck to them. Herman will get the most out of what is here; and we could not say that for the previous regime.

Can't say that for Herman yet either.
I feel good about the direction.
Herman will prove it to me on the field next fall.

Why go to mizzou? The university and athletics are in shambles and will stay that way.

Quote from Elliot: "Missouri’s a powerhouse for defensive linemen. They’re coming and going first round every year. That’s real appealing to me."

He seems to be living in an alternate reality.
