As if that gives anyone a heart attack. I thought he might wait until December, but it's now. Kind of LARGE message to Mike Stoops. Does he stay around and collect his $500,000+ or follow his pride out the door?

Could this set the stage for a Gundy/Long war for the defense?

@SabreHorn I don’t know anything about Ruffin. What do you make of this hire?

Ruffin McNeil was an assistant and DC at Tech before becoming HC at his alma mater East Carolina. He was the guy on the Tech sideline that always looked like he was about to have a heart attack and would sweat out about 20 pounds a game. Players coach, good coach, quality human being, other than liking Donnie Duncan. He and Riley got to be good friends in Lubbock and have remained so. I expected him to be Linc's first hire, just not this fast.

Bubba can elaborate, but the OU faithful were all bitching when Mike Stoops left for Tucson that the defense was not the same and Venables "was awful". Now that Venables is gone and Mike is back, Mike Stoops is the worst DC EVER.

This is a great hire for OU and for Riley. He will be really good for their recruiting not to mention their defensive schemes.

I thought Tech shoulda hired Ruffin after they fired Leach.

Agree, but getting fired at East Carolina probably showed Tech made the correct decision at the time. ou is going to have the same issue with Riley (not only has he never been a HC at a Power 5 school - he has never been a HC period) that Texas had with Strong.

Isn't he the coach who said on ESPN "I'm just an ole country egg" immediately after their bowl victory when Leach was fired?

    I've liked him ever since.

He was about the only person who ever ran a good defense out in Lubbock.

I think Mike's defense is good when he has better players - duh. To play the way he wants to play he has to have outstanding CB's. When he doesn't it's like sending a housecat to live outside with no claws. Mike/Brent/Ruffian are all going to be better when they have better players. I like the hire as it gives Riley a different voice to bounce things off of and some more experience in the coaching offices that's from another branch of the coaching tree. Mike's defense was pretty good last year. Looks like Ruffin is an outstanding recruiter and a player's coach. Mike could use some balance on that last part. :)

The board I haunt the most in Sooner Country had a thread going all the time entitled "Fire Bob!". It was often serious. Fans are fanatical and aren't reasonable. I'd rather discuss/debate than participate in a circle jerk about who's going to be the tackle who backs up the starters. That's what leads me here.

Faithful going to put up with a 7 win season when the expectations for 2017 were much higher?

That might be a problem. I expect a few more than that.

The okies hated Venables. Not any more fond of him after the two match-ups with Clemson. Happens.

I think that's a little off. If they'd have announced that Bob had retired and Brent was coming back to replace him people would be excited. I think Riley is eliciting more positive feedback but Brent would be right there. He got more popular when he went to Clemson and showed the world that he was a good coach. He will be a head coach soon.

Only the Aggies would pass on Fedora and go after Venables. I sure hope they remain that stupid.

God I would hope so. What else does he have to do? Watching 40,000 Ohio State people pour out of the dome was a great moment in the history of white trash.

    yelladawg,

Now you've done it. Expect the White Trash Advancement Society to be picketing outside your house, and a major fundraising rally coming to a trailer park near you by next weekend. Defamation like this cannot be ignored or go unpunished.

As your friend, I recommend you try to make amends by getting a couple of cases of Bismarck Beer and a couple of bottles of Kentucky Beau Bourbon and deliver them to the protesters.

I grew up in Oklahoma City, I had a brother that played 4 years at Arkansas, Saber, I have always embraced my white trash heritage. Trust me it's like going to a night game over in Hooterville........swimin pools......movie stars.

If it walks like a hick, acts like a hick, and hangs around a lot of other hicks, (think night game at LSU), then there is a really good chance it's a hick.

Yo Rog, I gave your daughter tacky, flashy, free "jewelry" from the 2015 OU game. I'll check the Will, but I'm sure you probably in it!

I left you out of my will because everyone in it gets a stack of bills to pay, :yippee:

I'll have you know my daughter cherishes that " tacky, flashy, free "jewelry", but not as much as meeting your "better half" :hookem2:

The same "tacky, flashy, free, "jewelry", along with a miniture Almond Joy bar was put on my Mother's grave marker that afternoon as well. I know she cherished both. (Probably a squirrel cherished the Almond Joy first). From the time I was a little kid, my Mother always told me that my greatest talent in life was "thoughtful gestures".

And, you sir, do it well, but your "thoughtful gestures" touch many people and are greatly appreciated
