The College World Series gets underway today with Oregon State-Fullerton and LSU-FSU getting things started. I have had the chance to attend a Final Four, a Football National Championship game (probably greatest ever) and three CWS' and while the greatest individual game I ever saw in person is the 2006 Rose Bowl, the best overall event I have attended is the CWS. I got to attend three of them back at the old Rosenblatt and from the atmosphere in the parking lot to the fun in the stadium and just the general Omaha experience it is by far the best college "event" out there. I understand that TD Ameritrade has sterilized a bit of the experience but that it is still pretty incredible. Texas in Omaha needs to become a regular thing again and I believe Pierce has things in motion to get back to that.

Aggy loses to Louisville 8-4 and in their sixth CWS appearance now runs their overall record in Omaha to 2-11. Yesterday it was a pair of comebacks for Oregon State and LSU. TCU gets started tonight against Florida and I like the winner of that bracket to come from those two teams.

Fullerton is first team eliminated as they fall to FSU this afternoon. Oregon State and LSU meet tonight in winners bracket game. On the other side of the field, TCU and aggy meet tomorrow afternoon in an elimination game while Florida and Louisville meet in that sides winners bracket tomorrow evening.

Oregon State crushes LSU 13-1. This Beaver team is so dominant that they make it hard to see anyone beating them but they still need to win three more games, one more to win bracket and then two in final series. I have seen dominant teams lose in the finals, Texas in 2004 and Virginia in 2014 come to mind so not quite time to crown them yet.

2 and 'Que for aggy, losing 4-1 to their rival TCU.

At least according to this article they're "rivals":

    http://www.espn.com/college-sports/baseball/story/_/id/19663996/day-4-college-world-series

"It is a rivalry game day in Omaha for Texas A&M and TCU, and the stakes are high. The winner moves on, while the loser is done after just two games. And later, two Omaha giants -- Louisville and Florida -- battle it out for the coveted 2-0 start."

Louisville and Florida, Omaha giants????? WTF?

UF, 11 appearances, first in 1988, no titles, 2 time runner up

UL, 4 appearances, first in 2007, no titles, no runner up

Excluding the REAL giants, e.g., USC, UT, and about 10 more, here are the programs with as many or more appearances than the giant UL (with 4 appearances, no title, no final game appearance), but fewer than the giant UF:

    Team, appearances, titles
    Bama, 5, 0
    Arkansas, 8, 0
    Auburn, 4, 0
    Boston College, 4, 0
    California, 6, 2
    Connecticut, 5, 0
    Fresno State, 4, 1
    UGA, 6, 1
    Harvard, 4, 0
    Holy Cross, 4, 1
    Lafayette, 4, 0
    Long Beach State, 4, 0
    Maine, 7, 0
    Michigan, 7, 2
    Minnesota, 5, 3
    Mississippi St, 9, 0
    MIssouri, 6, 1
    North Carolina, 10, 0
    Northern Colorado, 10, 0
    Ohio State, 4, 1
    Oklahoma, 10, 2
    Ole Miss, 5, 0
    Oregon St, 6, 2
    Penn State, 5, 0
    Rice, 7, 1
    St. John's, 6, 0
    Seton Hall, 4, 0
    Southern Illinois, 5, 0
    Tennessee, 4, 0
    Texas A&M, 6, 0
    UCLA, 5, 1
    Virginia, 4, 1
    Western Michigan, 6, 0
    Wichita State, 7, 1

and the programs with as many or more appearances than the giant UF (with 11 appearances, 2 finals appearances, no titles):

    Arizona, 17, 4
    Arizona St, 22, 5
    Cal State Fullerton, 18, 4
    Clemson, 12, 0
    Florida St, 22, 0
    LSU, 18, 6
    Miami, 25, 4
    Oklahoma St, 20, 1
    South Carolina, 11, 2
    USC, 21, 12
    Stanford, 16, 2
    Texas, 35, 6

    I guess I view a giant differently.

You people simply do not understand. The Aggies "ran out if time". Consider this:

Two hits in the first four innings
Three hits in the last five innings
Would that have meant four hits in the next six innings, and five hits in the next seven innings? At that rate, the Aggies may have won if the rules allowed a game to be 45-50 innings. See, they just "ran out of time".

Please, nobody tell the Aggies that TCU would also get to bat during those extra innings.

HEY!, aggy is a CWS title caliber team, with just some better pitching, better hitting, better fielding, better coaching, welllll, they'd win it all.

TCU with a nice win to eliminate aggy but a tough road to try and get much further as they must beat Louisville and then Florida twice to advance. LSU and FSU with elimination game today and then that TCU-Louisville game is tomorrow. UF and Oregon State resting their staffs will not have to play again until Friday.

Great post @blonthang! ESPN calling "da ville" an Omaha giant is really hilarious.

As far as I can tell, beating aggy a lot makes you their rival... so TCU certainly has to be a major rivalry for aggy by now. TCU may not be aware they are an aggy major rival, but that will not stop aggy from embracing a new loser tradition.

LSU eliminates the Seminoles and will play Oregon State on Friday, the Beavers have two shots to win one game and advance to championship series. Louisville and TCU play elimination game tonight on other side of bracket for right to have shot at Gators needing to win two to advance.

aggy loves their traditions and will adhere to them fanatically, even when the tradition is losing in Omaha.

TCU beats Louisville to advance to national semifinals for second straight year. They must win two against Florida today and tomorrow to advance.

TCU caught a break on a throw-out at 2B with 1 out late in the game. Loserville player was clearly safe, but called out. Next guy K'ed ending the inning.

TCU and LSU win game one so both brackets will have a true semifinal game today to decide who plays in the national championship series.

Looks like going to need Gators or Horned Frogs to keep LS Yeaux from getting their next title and passing the Horns at 7 to our 6th.

5-0, uh homer, now make that 6-0 spanking some beaver.

Oregon State had looked unstoppable riding a twenty plus game win streak and only four losses on the season but they lose back to back games and its LSU that is first team to reach national championship series. Beavers join Texas from 2004 and Virginia from 2014 as overwhelming favorites coming in to Omaha who fall short, though at least Texas and UVA made the finals. TCU gets its shot tonight.

All SEC final as the Gators beat TCU 3-0. Florida looking for its first title, the Tigers for their seventh.

Better than aggy. My aggy cousin said they would win it all, so I don't know what happened. Something about bad calls, bad strike zone and running out of innings.

To me the 1989 and 2004 teams will always be our two greatest teams without a ring. Literally it was several seconds before I could take a breath at the end in 2004.

Totally agree about the 2004 team. We were clearly the best team in Omaha. I wasn't that worried when we dropped game 1, just a fluke-we just could figure out that pitcher. I was stunned when we lost game 2.

We were robbed in 89 with the single elimination final.

If I remember that correctly - Wichita State had one loss and we had none?
