California Athletic Teams Playing in Texas

So, since the governor of California has banned state employees coming to Texas, will this effect the San Jose State game in Austin this Fall? Will the coaches and team staff be banned from "working" here for the game? What about all other athletics? You are either all in or you aren't gov! Which is it?

Do we need our passports to visit the Peoples Republic of Cali-prune-ya for the game in September?

All existing games are exempt. Future games are banned. Basically, Cal and UCLA cannot play in the Sun Bowl, Alamo Bowl or the Playoff if it is in Texas (this will not be an issue for Cal as they would be lucky to get to 6 wins next year). I am happy with no UCLA in the Alamo Bowl because they have one of the worst traveling fan bases (only 5 UCLA people actually travel). Califonia public schools (not Stanford or USC) are screwed if any postseason tournaments run through Texas.

I see really only two other major implications:
    1. UCLA, Cal, San Jose State, Fresno State and San Diego State are screwed on trying to recruit Texas (they all have Texas high school athletes on their rosters).

    2. UT to the Pac12 is forever dead. The Pac12 can kiss any expansion into Texas/the Big 12 goodbye. It is clear not joining the Pac12 was a good call. IF UT wants to join a super conference, it will have to be the Big 10, ACC or SEC. The Pac12 always cared too much about mixing politics with college athletics anyway (see BYU not getting in the Pac12).

This is California, where the legislature passed an law that all hospitals have to be "earthquake proof". which caused among other things, the largest hospital owned by the second largest hospital corporation in America to close, and the parent to move out of California because their tab for this law was going to be over $1.5 billion. Note that none of the state hospitals, including the state university teaching hospitals, complied or were closed.

Also it the home of the people's republic of Santa Monica, where a 50x100 residential lot sells for over $1 million, but must have any building (including your private residence) be ADA compliant. That means an elevator in every home, which must be 4 or 5 floors to justify the cost of the dirt and the set back lines.

Texans can, however, have appreciation for Jerry Brown being the only governor to make Ricky Perry look smart. :deadhorse:

My first thought was baseball. Regionals and Super regionals. Not sure what other states are on the no travel list, but there are a number of good college baseball teams in the south.

If we had knocked off the dirtbags and got the home field for the Super regional would Cal Fullerton not been allowed to come to Austin?

Well then if they are scheduled to play in Texas and don't want to come, they get a forfeit and an L on their record. If a Cali team makes the playoffs and a game is scheduled say at Jerry World, no show = FORFEIT = LOSS and their out. Let's see how that goes over.

    Joe,

I don't care about the "L", it's about honoring their commitment and the lost revenue. Dump some serious lawsuits for lost revenue by The University, City of Austin, hotels, restaurants, COOP, et al, and tie Cali-prune-ya up in court for a few years costing them several million in legal fees, and there is a small chance the weirdos in Sacra-tomato start to see things differently. You would think that their alumni would step up, but the two most powerful alumni groups in California are USC and Stanford, both private schools, who hate the public schools, and are already laughing their *** off.

Stanford and USC... might be a good addition to the Big 12. I could live with one late game
on the left coast each year. The USC people I know wouldn't mind giving Califlake the middle finger salute.

Actually, I would be perfectly okay with the Big 12 only taking Stanford, USC and maybe the two Arizona schools. Sadly, it will not happen.

When was the last time any Jerry Brown "work of art" wasn't ignored? Does he care? Only about all the media coverage he is getting to vault him into an "also ran" candidate for the Democrat presidential nominee.

Surely there is a significant financial penalty for a 'no-show' beyond an L on their record. The cost of having an open date to a school contending for an MNC is astronomical. Sadly, UT is not on that list (or maybe not) this year, but Alabama certainly is and Fresno State is a likely no-show. I would say that nobody could be stupid enough to forego a $2MM+ payoff to play, but I have been to 'fruit and nut' land. Needless to say, UA can find a replacement among schools as good as FSU. Tulane, Tulsa, Memphis State, etc. who are not too stupid to 'find' an open date for that amount of money. Surely these schools (UT and UA) have athletic directors and legal staffs to protect against unbridled idiocy. RIght?
