Based on real characters and events...

Main character loosely based on several real people. Plot details 'closely based on real stories and people originating from the former Soviet Union'...

The ongoing real story not only encompasses what is in the movie description, it is in fact ten times worse.

I was sure you'd seen those like most people. Just still find it amazing how much incompetence and waste allowed such ridiculous practices to happen. And like you said there's no doubt it's much worse than portrayed in those movies.

Brad, there is plenty incompetence and waste, but the main problem is systemic criminality that reaches the highest level.

I agree. It'll always be the case when the Fed gov. has massive control and overreach.

Too big to fail sectors with little accountability will always do this when fortunes are to be made off the plight of common folks who have little recourse.

Forgive me if this goes too far off topic, but it does tie in to the defense sector in ways...

There's a reason the US was designed to be state operated under the common umbrella of the constitution.

Each state should submit annual detailed budget requests for federal funds to separately run the various entities the fed gov so ineptly and corruptly controls.

Local citizens are much more able to recognize and dissect fraud, corruption, and criminality in their state and hold leaders accountable.

Local news outlets seek out investigative stories to uncover such abuses of the system.

I don't care what party people pledge loyalty to, those who prefer big gov over state control are completely clueless and only inviting thieves into their home.

As long as the Fed gov allots a pile of money to a sector, the abuses and corruption will run wild. There's simply no accountability.

Watch the first 25 minutes or so. Basically, what you have is a multi-billion dollar illegal arms trade, including depleted uranium and white phosphorous, used to arm terrorists in several countries. There are ties to the Clinton Foundation, various members of Congress, Patreus, NATO generals, the CIA, both foreign and domestic arms companies, Maersk shipping, and an Azerbaijan airline. The article in the top of the thread is the smoking gun that unearthed tons of documentation.
