The Longhorns are likely to be ranked in some preseason polls, and it's been a while since that respect happened. Would you rather get going before that happens or are you OK with that happening that way?

Herman: I think everybody would rather be the hunter and not the hunted - and I'm not saying by any stretch are we the hunted at this point. We need to make people fear us. And I kind of like it when people don't respect us and people don't fear us. And that's where we're at right now - they don't and nor should they.

We've literally just come through the worst three-year stretch in the history of The University of Texas football. So, why anybody would put us in a Top 25, why anybody would respect us or think anything of us right now is beyond me.

Now, hopefully, after they see us play a few times they might be able to form a different opinion, but until then, there's nothing that says we garner that kind of respect.

I read somewhere that this year is the first time since 1947 that Texas and OU have met with first-year coaches on the sidelines.

I like the way he talks. He's very critical, but its clear that he is not trying to lower anyone's expectations or make excuses. That respect is there for the taking, if we just decide its important enough to grind for it.

At this time in Charlie's tenure he was also very critical of the team he had, but it did seem like he was trying to lower expectations or buy time. Saying we were a couple of seasons away from being any good etc etc... May have been true, but may have been a self-fulfilling prophesy. Teams rise above their expectations all the time with the right motivation.
And those expectations from year one really stuck. I got the sense that the team was not all that bothered by losing 7 games a year still in year 3.

Yeah, it concerned many of us early on when CS verbally set the bar low for his team along with his expectations and as you said, they seemed to have stuck from early on.

When you lose 7 games in a season, players and coaches should be verbally angry with those results and take action to improve. Lose 7 games 3 years in a row you should lose your job, as he did. CS is a good man but IMO he was far too laid back and friendly with the players / team to get the most out of them.

DKR once said angry men win football games. To me it didn't seem the team ever got angry or even pissed off on or off the field about the results or losing games.

I think the mindset of going through the motions, accepting mediocrity, lacking accountability and LOSING GAMES will change big time with TH.
